0
Mr Gibson | 22 September 2011 - 10:03pm

Fair play ...

Still stand by Marvin and Tammi, though.

0
Dave Amitri | 22 September 2011 - 11:18pm

Top o'the head

1. Lucky Stars - Dean Friedman

For a long time I thought Woody Allen sang this.

2. Opposites Attract - Paula Abdul & MC Skat Kat

"Who'd a-thought (uhhh!) we could be lovers
She makes the bed
And he steals the covers"

Just to clarify, this is a woman and a cat.

3. Rockin' Good Way - Shakin' Stevens and Bonnie Tyler

Don't mess around! Don't mess around!

1
Austin | 22 September 2011 - 10:29pm

Here's mine

Iggy & Debbie - "Well, Did You Evah" (it was swelligant!)
Peter & Kate - "Don't Give Up" (possibly La Bush's greatest vocal)
Tindersticks feat. Carla Torgerson - "Travelling Light"

1
Black Type | 22 September 2011 - 10:57pm

.... for Travelling Light...

0

Arthur and Hilda - You're The One That I Want

Abi and Esther - Cinderella Rockefeller

(You never said they had to be good)

2
B Smith | 22 September 2011 - 11:14pm

Here's mine then...

PSB & Dusty - What Have I Done to Deserve This
Bryan Adams/Mel B - When You're Gone
Joe Jackson/Elaine Caswell (if this counts) - Happy Ending. Completely OTT 80's style thing, but I can't help but love it!

0
ivan | 22 September 2011 - 11:16pm

Got soul for you

Heard 'Love has finally come at last' - Bobby Womack & Patti Labelle - the other day and it made me cry (just as it does every time). There are no other two offerings in the same league to match its power and blister. IMHO.

0
ipesky | 22 September 2011 - 11:41pm

Try this

Some wry, dark humour from the Magnetic Fields

0
Bigsby | 22 September 2011 - 11:43pm

Try this

Some wry, dark humour from the Magnetic Fields

0
Bigsby | 22 September 2011 - 11:43pm

Declan | 22 September 2011 - 11:46pm

Excellent choice

Excellent choice Declan.

0
jackthebiscuit | 23 September 2011 - 3:36am

Thanks Jack..

I've got the first as a Stax single, the second on an Island compilation, but the third isn't even featured properly on YouTube. Shame.

There are a lot of great songs on this thread.

0
Declan | 23 September 2011 - 8:37pm

I've got the first as a Stax single

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Stax singles.

0
jackthebiscuit | 25 September 2011 - 12:25am

Some great choices already

1
ipswichita | 22 September 2011 - 11:49pm

Dr John,

Ricky Lee Jones

Carreras, Kanewa

And does this count?

Lulu and Bowie

1
Helena Handcart | 23 September 2011 - 1:04am

more from me

Not sure if this track is particularly Word friendly, but I love it.

Meatloaf & Ellen Foley (?) - Paradise by the dashboard light.

Sorry, cant Post clips, I am at work.

1
jackthebiscuit | 23 September 2011 - 2:15am

This is my no.1...

male + female comedy duet. Even the, ever professional, Bowie cracks up (at 1.28).

1
Formbyman | 23 September 2011 - 7:01am

Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan

Take your pick of fave song, but 3 albums worth of gems.

3
grahamt | 23 September 2011 - 8:04am

Marvin & Tammi

Marvin & Tammi - Good Lovin' Ain't Easy To Come By
Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis - You Don't Have To Be A Star
Mamas & Papas - Twelve Thirty

Jackson by Nancy & Lee on the subs bench.
It's not their most well known but I think Good Lovin' is M&T's greatest performance as a duo (Val Simpson sometimes sat in on the later M&T records when Tammit was ill and there is a school of thought that it's her on this but I don't buy it - that is Tammi Terrrel).
RIP Nick Ashford.

0
Richard Lowe | 23 September 2011 - 8:14am

Marvin and Tammi...probably the best duo of all time?

I'd go for "What You Gave Me" - such joy!

http://youtu.be/i6qEOaaLi14

Otherwise:

Ella and Louis - Summertime

http://youtu.be/MIDOEsQL7lA

Tom Waits and Crystal Gayle - This one's from the heart

http://youtu.be/iaUl8M5GZHE

Jackie and Roy - Don't be blue (suspect there won't be much love on here for this cheesy latin-esque jazzy dancer(!) - it's even got a vibes solo - but I'm very fond of it...)

http://youtu.be/VmiJpzwUjnU

0
Morrison | 23 September 2011 - 10:19am

Maybe these tickle your fancy

Alice Cooper & Betty Wright – No Tricks
Jackie Leven & Deborah Greenwood – Song for Bass Guitar and Death
Godley and Crème, Sarah Vaughn - Lost Weekend

0
Bogart | 23 September 2011 - 8:20am

Hard to pick just three...

...but I reckon you can't go wrong with these:

The Pastels - Nothing To Be Done
Alison Krauss/Dan Tyminski - The Boy Who Wouldn't Hoe Corn
David Sylvian/Virginia Astley - Some Small Hope

1
shagg1y | 23 September 2011 - 8:46am

Oooh, good shout

for those that don't know Alison Krauss & Union Station, feast your ears on this. Jerry Dougles gives a virtuoso intro and then one of the great unsung voices, Dan Tyminski, nails this wonderful song. Can't wait to see them in London in November.

0
niallb | 23 September 2011 - 10:14am

An up

Someone else likes Virginia Astley. Hooray! I saw her when she toured this. She was supporting The Teardrop Explodes, I think.

A shout for 'Submarine' from Bjork's Medulla, with Robert Wyatt.

But the most beautiful male/female mix for me, regrettably not on Spotify or YouTube, is John Ball from Chris Wood's 'Trespasser' accompanied by Karine Polwart.

0
thecheshirecat | 28 September 2011 - 2:04am

Metronomy

I also Like Tindersticks Travelling Light
and Kate and Peter Don't Give Up

0
MrRadio | 23 September 2011 - 9:16am

Go on then...

Gigi D'Agostino - L'amour Toujours

Brad Paisley & Carrie Underwood - Remind Me

Manic St Preachers - Little Baby Nothing

0
Art Vandelay | 23 September 2011 - 9:30am

Okey-dokey, here are my three..

Fools - the Only Ones (Peter Perrett and Pauline Murray)
Love Has Finally Come at Last - Bobby Womack and Patti Labelle
The Wild Goose - Kate Rusby and Dave Burland

0
duco01 | 23 September 2011 - 9:49am

Any room for this?

0
aging hippy | 23 September 2011 - 10:21am

Not enough Nancy and Lee for

0
Steve Turner | 23 September 2011 - 12:58pm

Two Virgins

Yeah?

0
Moose the Mooche | 23 September 2011 - 1:08pm

Good question...

When the voices meld (horrible word to describe a nice thing) it's a very sweet sound, viz

Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Jordan - Baby, It's Cold Outside

Beth Rowley & Duke Special - Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground

The Civil Wars - Poison & Wine

Sub : Patti Labelle & Michael McDonald - On My Own

0
Graham Johns | 23 September 2011 - 4:42pm

Goodbye

This has never been released on record as a duo, although they both Steve and Emmy put it on their own records (Train A Comin' & Wrecking Ball).

I saw them do it at one of the Concerts For A Landmine Free World and it was the highlight of the evening.

I think one of the great OGWT performances came from Kris Kristofferson and Rita Coolidge

One of my favourite duets is Allison Moorer's No Next Time from her album The Hardest Part which is performed with Lonesome Bob. Even though it's also on the DVD from her Play live album it's not on YouTube.

1
Carl Parker | 24 September 2011 - 5:13pm

Glaring omission! Bjork and

Glaring omission!

I think this is a wonderful example

Two guys and one girl, Nickel Creek , Why Should the Fire Die.

0
heshofcheese | 25 September 2011 - 5:09pm

As it's the Word blog...

Obviously it's illegal not to include RT. Sadly, I can't find Richard and Linda doing the wonderful Wall Of Death; but I did find RT singing it with the divine Christine Collister, so here it is:

And, as it must be over year since I last posted it, here's Cock Robin with The Promise You Made, this time a live version, with Anna La Cazio going nuclear in the hotness stakes...

0
Rosbif | 25 September 2011 - 5:29pm

My 3....

Lydia Lunch and Roland S Howard - Some Velvet Morning
Nicole and Timmy Thomas - New York Eyes
Shane McGowan and Sinead O'Conner - Haunted (this song doesn't seem to be too well known, well it took me an to track down a few years ago anyway and remains the only song I have ever downloaded without shelling out as none of the legit sites had it at the time)

0
art vanderlay | 27 September 2011 - 11:22pm

1) Crawl Home - Queens of the Stone Age and PJ Harvey
2) Some Velvet Morning - Lee Hazelwood and Nancy Sinatra

3 from Country!

This was in my top 5 records when I was 17 and probably still is.

A little maudlin but great vocals.

This popped into my head - haven't heard it for years.

1
Pinmonkey | 29 September 2011 - 2:16pm

Love a bit of country

Up arrow for you, sir. I nominated Brad Paisley as well further up. (smug look)
