Here is mine:
Belle and Sebastian - Lazy Line Painter Jane
Pet Shop Boys and Dusty Springfield - What Have I Done To Deserve This?

Three move for you...
Steve Howe/Claire Hammill - Look Over Your Shoulder
Kate Bush/Lenny Henry/Prince - Why Should I Love You

3 from me
Nick Cave/Kylie Minogue - Wild Roses
Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra - some velvet morning
Pet Shop Boys and Dusty Springfield - What Have I Done To Deserve This?
Ike & Tina Turner - River deep, mountain high. (OK, I know its only her on the record, but I do like it so much)
& yes, I know I cant count.
I'd struggle
to think of a better 3-ish than that. Lovely selection.
Thank you
I feel a nice warm glow coming on !
Cheers.
OK then
Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris - We'll Sweep Out The Ashes In The Morning
Gimme Shelter
REM with Patti Smith - E-Bow The Letter (topical)
bubbling under Morrissey and Siouxsie - Interlude
Sven Garlic
- you know, the penny has only just dropped.
Good choices btw.
some more
There's a Story in Your Voice - Elvis Costello & Lucinda Williams
I Got You Babe - Sonny and Cher
Handle Me With Care - Jenny Lewis, Ben Gibbard and Conor Oberst
Hearts On Fire. Gram Parsons & Emmylou Harris.
I'd venture to suggest the best ever, for my money.
Three off the top of my head...
Nick and Kylie - Where The Wild Roses Grow
Otis & Carla - Tramp
Bob & Marcia - Young, Gifted & Black
EDIT: Ok, since everyone else has had Nick & Kylie, I'm going to go for...
Shane & Kirsty - either the obvious one, or Miss Otis Regrets/Just One Of Those Things
321
There's A Story In Your Voice - Elvis Costello & Lucinda Williams
Only You Know And I Know - Delaney & Bonnie (& Friends)
Meet On The Ledge - Fairport Convention
Joss Stone & Mick JaggNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
My three
PJ Harvey and Thom Yorke - This Mess We're In
Kristin Hersh and Michael Stipe - Your Ghost
Carly Simon and Mick Jagger - You're So Vain
Ooh, that reminds me.
Drugstore and Thom Yorke - El President.
Excellent call on Your Ghost, Jim.
I would also choose
Thom Yorke with Drugstore - El Presidente
if you were bending the rules a bit.
Great minds Bob
great minds
Jackson
By Johnny and June.
The whole soundtrack of One From The Heart, with Tom Waits and Crystal Gayle.
Dead Ringer For Love.
Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell ...
.... You're All I Need To Get By
Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris - Love Hurts
Shane MacGowan and Kirsty MaColl - Fairytale of New York
Beat that
*Tsk*
The only one above who didn't was Sven Garlick
Fair play ...
.... over confidence caused by too much beer. I really must learn to read the thread before posting.
Still stand by Marvin and Tammi, though.
Eeeezy
Beth & Ryan
Love is Strange
Mickey & Silvia
With the added bonus that Sylvia Vanderpool then went on to found Sugar Hill Records
Oops
2 more to qualify?
How about...
Roberta & Donny
Percy & Sandy
Oh, and another thing....
Glen & Marketa from the film "Once."
was just about to post this...
great soundtrack to a wonderful film
Kim Mazelle
and Dr Robert "Wait"
Edit: Top 3? Just play this 3 times....
Edit 2: Thought of two more 80's gems
Aretha and George "Knew You Were Waiting"
David Grant and Jackie Graham "Could It Be I'm Falling In love?"
Top o'the head
1. Lucky Stars - Dean Friedman
For a long time I thought Woody Allen sang this.
2. Opposites Attract - Paula Abdul & MC Skat Kat
"Who'd a-thought (uhhh!) we could be lovers
She makes the bed
And he steals the covers"
Just to clarify, this is a woman and a cat.
3. Rockin' Good Way - Shakin' Stevens and Bonnie Tyler
Don't mess around! Don't mess around!
And...
How 'bout Percy & Alison?
Appropriate...
Rosie & Sufjan with THE best version...
How 'bout...
Stevie & Don anyone?
Bjork and Thom Yorke
And finally
Alison & James...
That is great
And I have almost no love for James T.
Here is the version as on the Louvin tribute CD. Just gorgeous.
the entire
Evelyn Evelyn album by Amanda Palmer and Jason Webley
plenty of Decemberists including:
Sunshine,
Yankee Bayonet and
The Hazards of Love (Wager All)
Here's mine
Iggy & Debbie - "Well, Did You Evah" (it was swelligant!)
Peter & Kate - "Don't Give Up" (possibly La Bush's greatest vocal)
Tindersticks feat. Carla Torgerson - "Travelling Light"
Have an up....
.... for Travelling Light...
Howzabout
Renee and Renato - Save Your Love
Arthur and Hilda - You're The One That I Want
Abi and Esther - Cinderella Rockefeller
(You never said they had to be good)
Here's mine then...
PSB & Dusty - What Have I Done to Deserve This
Bryan Adams/Mel B - When You're Gone
Joe Jackson/Elaine Caswell (if this counts) - Happy Ending. Completely OTT 80's style thing, but I can't help but love it!
Got soul for you
Heard 'Love has finally come at last' - Bobby Womack & Patti Labelle - the other day and it made me cry (just as it does every time). There are no other two offerings in the same league to match its power and blister. IMHO.
Try this
Some wry, dark humour from the Magnetic Fields

Some wry, dark humour from the Magnetic Fields
D'oh
Both poles, I guess.
Oh swoon..
William Bell & Judy Clay - Private Number
Joe Cocker & Jennifer Warnes - Up Where We Belong
Supremes & Temptations - I'm Gonna Make You Love Me
Excellent choice
Excellent choice Declan.
Thanks Jack..
I've got the first as a Stax single, the second on an Island compilation, but the third isn't even featured properly on YouTube. Shame.
There are a lot of great songs on this thread.
I've got the first as a Stax single
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Stax singles.
Some great choices already
Dr John,
Ricky Lee Jones
Chevalier, Gingold
Carreras, Kanewa
And does this count?
Lulu and Bowie
more from me
Not sure if this track is particularly Word friendly, but I love it.
Meatloaf & Ellen Foley (?) - Paradise by the dashboard light.
Sorry, cant Post clips, I am at work.
This is my no.1...
male + female comedy duet. Even the, ever professional, Bowie cracks up (at 1.28).
Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan
Take your pick of fave song, but 3 albums worth of gems.
Marvin & Tammi
Marvin & Tammi - Good Lovin' Ain't Easy To Come By
Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis - You Don't Have To Be A Star
Mamas & Papas - Twelve Thirty
Jackson by Nancy & Lee on the subs bench.
It's not their most well known but I think Good Lovin' is M&T's greatest performance as a duo (Val Simpson sometimes sat in on the later M&T records when Tammit was ill and there is a school of thought that it's her on this but I don't buy it - that is Tammi Terrrel).
RIP Nick Ashford.
Marvin and Tammi...probably the best duo of all time?
I'd go for "What You Gave Me" - such joy!
http://youtu.be/i6qEOaaLi14
Otherwise:
Ella and Louis - Summertime
http://youtu.be/MIDOEsQL7lA
Tom Waits and Crystal Gayle - This one's from the heart
http://youtu.be/iaUl8M5GZHE
Jackie and Roy - Don't be blue (suspect there won't be much love on here for this cheesy latin-esque jazzy dancer(!) - it's even got a vibes solo - but I'm very fond of it...)
http://youtu.be/VmiJpzwUjnU
Maybe these tickle your fancy
Alice Cooper & Betty Wright – No Tricks
Jackie Leven & Deborah Greenwood – Song for Bass Guitar and Death
Godley and Crème, Sarah Vaughn - Lost Weekend
Hard to pick just three...
...but I reckon you can't go wrong with these:
The Pastels - Nothing To Be Done
Alison Krauss/Dan Tyminski - The Boy Who Wouldn't Hoe Corn
David Sylvian/Virginia Astley - Some Small Hope
Oooh, good shout
for those that don't know Alison Krauss & Union Station, feast your ears on this. Jerry Dougles gives a virtuoso intro and then one of the great unsung voices, Dan Tyminski, nails this wonderful song. Can't wait to see them in London in November.
An up
Someone else likes Virginia Astley. Hooray! I saw her when she toured this. She was supporting The Teardrop Explodes, I think.
A shout for 'Submarine' from Bjork's Medulla, with Robert Wyatt.
But the most beautiful male/female mix for me, regrettably not on Spotify or YouTube, is John Ball from Chris Wood's 'Trespasser' accompanied by Karine Polwart.
Metronomy
I also Like Tindersticks Travelling Light
and Kate and Peter Don't Give Up
Go on then...
Gigi D'Agostino - L'amour Toujours
Brad Paisley & Carrie Underwood - Remind Me
Manic St Preachers - Little Baby Nothing
Okey-dokey, here are my three..
Fools - the Only Ones (Peter Perrett and Pauline Murray)
Love Has Finally Come at Last - Bobby Womack and Patti Labelle
The Wild Goose - Kate Rusby and Dave Burland
Any room for this?
Not enough Nancy and Lee for
Not enough Nancy and Lee for my liking, so:
Arkansas Coal - Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood
Crying - kd lang and Roy Orbison
The Case Continues - Ute Lemper and Neil Hannon
Anything by Slow Club!
Marvin Gaye and Diana Ross - You Are Everything
Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty - Stop Dragging My Heart Around
Brook Benton and Dinah Washington - Baby You've Got What It Takes
Dont give up
Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush
You're still standing there - Steve Earle and Lucinda Williams
In spite of ourselves - John Prine and Iris DeMent
Two Virgins
Yeah?
Good question...
When the voices meld (horrible word to describe a nice thing) it's a very sweet sound, viz
Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Jordan - Baby, It's Cold Outside
Beth Rowley & Duke Special - Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground
The Civil Wars - Poison & Wine
Sub : Patti Labelle & Michael McDonald - On My Own
Has to be?
First time post but had to mention Wyclef Jean & Mary J Blige - 911
First time poster.
Welcome aboard Skatalite.
Wonderful choice of song.
Have an arrow.
Manic Street Preachers/Nina
Manic Street Preachers/Nina Persson - Your Love Alone (Is Not Enough)
Pogues/Kirsty MacColl - Faiytale Of New York
(a bit seasonal, a bit overplayed, but still a bloody good song)
Debbie Harry/Iggy Pop - Did You Evah?
Thinking Of You by The Colourfield.
End of debate.
My Three x 2 (sorry)
Stranger Cole & Patsy Todd - Down By The Trainline
Section 25 - Looking From A Hilltop (Megamix)
Felt/Elizabeth Fraser - Primitive Painters
Indigo Girls/Michael Stipe - Kid Fears
Richmond Fontaine - Post To Wire
Low - Two Step
Me In Honey : REM and Kate
Me In Honey : REM and Kate Pierson
Future 40's : Syd Straw and Michael Stipe
A Heart Needs A Home : Richard and Linda Thompson
Guilty By Association : Joe Henry and Madonna
Goodbye
This has never been released on record as a duo, although they both Steve and Emmy put it on their own records (Train A Comin' & Wrecking Ball).
I saw them do it at one of the Concerts For A Landmine Free World and it was the highlight of the evening.
I think one of the great OGWT performances came from Kris Kristofferson and Rita Coolidge
One of my favourite duets is Allison Moorer's No Next Time from her album The Hardest Part which is performed with Lonesome Bob. Even though it's also on the DVD from her Play live album it's not on YouTube.
Glaring omission! Bjork and
Glaring omission!
Bjork and Anthony Hegarty - "Dull flame of desire"
A recent gem
Was Mystery Jets and Laura Marling - Young Love
And more..
The Sugarcubes - Deus
The Pastels - Through Your Heart
Lush with Jarvis - Ciao
I think this is a wonderful example
Two guys and one girl, Nickel Creek , Why Should the Fire Die.
As it's the Word blog...
Obviously it's illegal not to include RT. Sadly, I can't find Richard and Linda doing the wonderful Wall Of Death; but I did find RT singing it with the divine Christine Collister, so here it is:
And, as it must be over year since I last posted it, here's Cock Robin with The Promise You Made, this time a live version, with Anna La Cazio going nuclear in the hotness stakes...
Two's Company
John Prine and Bonnie Raitt 'Angel From Mongomery'
Tom Russell and Gretchen Peters 'Billy 4'
Gram Parsonms and Emmylou Harris 'Hearts on Fire'
None better
3 more greats
Wonderful
Frankie and johnny i'll hold you(northern soul monster very big at Wigan casino in the 70s, urge you to YouTube it) marvin and tammi, anything.
Every Picture Tells A Story
Maggie Bell (Featuring Rod Stewart)
Dolphins - Beth Orton & Terry Callier
See The World - Vinegar Joe (Robert Palmer & Elkie Brooks)
Thanks mr hippy
I never heard the Beth Orton version of Dolphins before playing that clip and it's blindin'
My 3....
Lydia Lunch and Roland S Howard - Some Velvet Morning
Nicole and Timmy Thomas - New York Eyes
Shane McGowan and Sinead O'Conner - Haunted (this song doesn't seem to be too well known, well it took me an to track down a few years ago anyway and remains the only song I have ever downloaded without shelling out as none of the legit sites had it at the time)
I'll Offer...
1) Crawl Home - Queens of the Stone Age and PJ Harvey
2) Some Velvet Morning - Lee Hazelwood and Nancy Sinatra
3) Look At Me When I Rockwitchoo - The Black Kids
3 from Country!
This was in my top 5 records when I was 17 and probably still is.
A little maudlin but great vocals.
This popped into my head - haven't heard it for years.
Love a bit of country
Up arrow for you, sir. I nominated Brad Paisley as well further up. (smug look)
