Tony Bennett: Duets II

Jed Clampett's picture

Duets II will apparently be number 1 in the US next week, which restores your faith in mankind. The fact that Amy Winehouse made her last recording for the CD has rightly attracted a lot of attention, because Amy and Tony do an excellent "Body and Soul". However, Amy is not the real stand out for me.

The two best duets are:

First, John Meyer joining Tony for "One For My Baby (And One More For The Road)".

Second, an absolutely cracking performance by Lady Gaga on "The Lady Is A Tramp". When she does her thing she is most definitely not my cup of tea, but on this she is blooming marvellous.

The whole thing is great but these 2 duets are the pick of the bunch.

Gaga, eh? Don't Say I Didn't Tell You All,

Especially at great length during the London Mingle.

I read an article the other week in which Tony Bennett raved at length about Gaga. I hope one day, she makes a serious blues/jazz album, because that is where she really cuts it, buster.

I assume he is doing something,

but it's likely to be associated with New Zealand, rugby and exploring the effect of liquor licensing laws in social settings. And bloody good luck to him.

But as a Kiwi

he'll be back home after the quarter finals!

Thanks for the recommendation -

further investigations will soon ensue. Mrs. F and I took her parents to the RAH a few years back to see Tony Bennett and he was excellent. At one point (it was a bit "set piece" but impressive none the less) he got the soundman to kill the amplification and sung a verse unaccompanied. You could hear every word and would have heard a pin drop, had anyone been so rude as to interrupt. The guy has immense talent and class.
