Tonight Radio 2 Unthanks and Brighouse Rastrick Brass concert
Posted by Carolina on 9 November 2011 - 3:16pm.
Tonight on Radio 2 at 9.30 Listen to the Band has a recording of the concert the Unthanks gave at Durham Cathedral in July with the Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band. It was reviewed on the Word Blog by MichaelP http://www.wordmagazine.co.uk/content/the-unthanks-and-brighouse-and-ras... Sounds great. The concert is in two parts - second part same time next week.

Did we ever get to the bottom...
...of who stole Rachel Unthank's baby (...sorry, 'bairn')?
It's OK they found him on Felton Lonnen
asleep in Ben's manger with Jess and her puppies
Phew, that's a relief...
...but I'll expect to hear a chilling new song called 'Whaaar's wir bairn gaan, canny lass?' with dissonant harmonies at every turn, a stark piano motif and the creepy sound of a Victorian music box playing a child's lullaby as the accompaniment. Obviously it'll be their Christmas single.
I think the Unthanks are sweetly pretty
and I want to protect them.
Anyway their Xmas single is called 'Gan doon ta Mithercare to fetch pampers for me kye called Jesus, divvent ye knaw'
Sorry, got the venue wrong
It wasn't the concert in Durham Cathedral but one in Bristol - the fact it was stated in the paper as part of the Durham International Festival wrongfooted me. Still sounds lovely though.
