Tom Petty

I gather the great man and his Heartbreakers will be headlining one of the nights of the Isle of Wight Festival.
I'd love to see him but unlikely I could justify a weekend away to the FPO away to do so. Already signed up for Latitude and the Boss in Sunderland.
Here's hoping he does a few stand alone gigs when he's here - maybe in central Scotland???

Hard Rock Calling?
I'm hoping he will follow the Boss's lead and headline the Saturday night. Ideally I would much rather see him indoors in Scotland playing a full set. The last time he played Scotland was in 1992! It was a great show but 20 years is far too much of the waiting.
He's doing the Friday at IOW

Let's just imagine that "TBA" Saturday headliner is the Foos. Now - that would be a fine weekend. Pity I can't afford it :-(.
Festival Season
so they'll probably pick up some of the Euro festivals as well. I can't do the IOW (same day as Springsteen at Man City)so I'm praying that TP&TH get added to the Hyde Park weekend or do some indoor shows. After this amount of time ignoring Europe is there a big enough audience for them to sell out the O2? As I've posted before, they are the last of the great bands that are still going that I haven't seen. VERY excited.
I hope TP and TH
are as good as they were at Knebworth 1978. As I recall, I was up the front for that one. And Tom was wearing a rather fetching top hat.
Great live band
Saw him at the NEC around 1993.
Expected a blue collar rock band.
Totally blown away by the 'show'.
Isn't this...
..?one of the least likely headliners for a major festival that you can think of? Surely he has hardly any audience here at all...
Tom Petty...
...had (more or less) passed me by until I watched Peter Bogdanovich's epic documentary.
I've only wanted to see him for the last year or two, so will look forward to some other dates rather than the IoW festival.
I don't accept...
Mark's premise that Petty has no fan base (though he may know better than me). A lot of folk will be going to see Pearl Jam and Springsteen and the triple bill of American gold will surely attract fans from all over Europe, not just the UK.
I dunno
The Strokes headlined Reading Festival this year despite people last noticing they existed in 2002. I think the rarity of his UK appearances might be the factor here. Especially if it emerges that its his only UK show.
But then I see acts with a wafer of his career selling out arenas these days so maybe its not so unusual
Please play some London shows, Tom
I've seen pretty much all the bands I want to see, Petty is the one act left I want to see. But I aint going to Isle of Wight. My last festival was a good 10 years back. Married with 2 kids now, just doesnt appeal. If he plays the 02 or Hyde Park i'll be there in a shot.
I really hope he does. I love Petty. Great frontman, great band, great tunes.
I'll dig out some of my Tom Petty Buried Treasure radio shows on the ipod tomorrow. Recommended they are, very good.
Update
Thomas has added a couple of Irish dates
The O2, Dublin on Thu 7th June 2012
Live at the Marquee, Cork on Friday June 8th 2012
So perhaps more UK dates is a possiblilty
Please do Tom !
But not at the dome, please.
More UK dates to come?

It's looking hopeful
really hope so: saw Heartbreakers in
Edinburgh in early '80s and they were great, like a really good bar band on a big stage.
Saw them later in Glasgow and was less enamoured (too "stadium" a gig and they were in thrall to Dave Stewart's nonsense at the time), but I'd love to see them again.
By the by (for what it's worth) both times they played to packed houses, so I do believe TP has a real fan-base here.
Les Heartbreakers A Paris
Enough farfing about. My middle son has never been to Paris. Schools out for ever in his case and we got seats in the front row of the balcony at Le Grand Rex. It looks like a great venue, a 1930s Art Deco cinema.
Make that 2 Albert Hall shows
Tom Petty now playing 2 nights at the Royal Albert Hall
Monday 18th June added to the Wednesday 20th June show.
(Someone else in the venue on the 19th)
Tickets on sale Friday and unlikely to be any other UK shows.
