Thomas Dolby. A map of the floating city. Critique

I'm a big fan of the man's songwriting but I can't help but wish he had taken this material to a much younger studiobound will i am man to produce rather than taking it on himself. I think it suffers from home productionitis. The material is stellar but the end result for me is rather flat & even.Could've been astounding.Still could if he'd enlist the primo young studs in LA.

Does this look like a home studio though?

And TD is only one of the three people who mixed the album. I believe it was a conscious decision not to rely on synthesised sounds given the ubiquity of same in modern records.
It is a lovely album and growing on me.

Please No !
Oh please no! Stay away from Will iam.
We don't want another Aliens ate my Buick, we want another Golden Age of Wireless !
Do we?
Whilst I recognise and fully acknowledge the god-like genius of GAOW, I must declare that 'Budapest by Blimp' from Aliens Ate My Buick, is my all time favourite Dolby song.
And 'Pulp Culture' isn't too shabby neither...
Looking forward to seeing Mr D on Sunday at the Shepherd's Bush Empire!
