This just in: Richard Hawley and Jonsi added to our arena bill at Latitude

The Word's picture

The latest additions to the bill for the Word Arena at this year's Latitude are old favourite Richard Hawley and new favourite Jonsi. Our man with the dark brown baritone and the songs of love both requited and the other sort, will be putting on a recital on the Friday evening. Jonsi, better known for his part in the ethereal tintinabulation of Sigur Ros, will be knitting up the ravelled sleeve of care for those who need soothing on Sunday evening. These performers are in addition to the other acts at the Word Arena, The National, The XX, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Grizzly Bear. Complete billing plus a link to buy tickets is on the Latitude website. The festival is on the weekend of 15-18 July. Hooray!

oh good

I deeply regret not being at Latitude for Sigur Ros a few years back. This is good news.

Very nice indeed,

this news gave me the required kick up the arse to actually get a ticket. Already looking better than last years line up on the u***t arena, and that's with just half a dozen bands!

Would be interested to know how much say 'The Word' has in who's playing, do they have full artistic licence or do they have to listen to what festival republic suggest?

Wonder what happened to u***t, I gather that the organisers were little pleased with the magazine leaking the headliners last year.

Anyway nevermind, congrats again to Mark, Dave and everyone else at the mag, and look forward to seeing you lot at one of the tents

A good fit

I would like to add my voice of approval for the move to the Word for the 2nd stage. The sensibilities of the magazine and the festival seem to me to be in keeping with each other.

Jonsi and Richard Hawley are a great compliment to what has already been announced.

I have been to Latitude for the last two years, and have seen much debate about what the most appropriate type of headliner should be. I veer toward the main headliner being newish and exciting as opposed to heritage.

However I think there should be a 6.30ish 2nd headline slot, each night, where a more heritage (awful expression) type act could cater to those of us who are just as happy with cocoa and a good book by 10 o'clock as we are ripping it up down in the mosh pit with the XX. Be good for those with young children too.

Is that a nonsense idea? Just struck me as an extension of the Sunday lunchtime headline slot, which was just delightful last year with Thom Yorke.
