This could be dreadful

While I can understand advertisers concerns, this sort of attitude is just going to drive more people to DVD box sets for their favourite series. Bad luck for soap viewers though.

I'm not sure how a computer programme is going to be able to decide when a critical point in a drama is taking place.

Who needs computers?

Some channels are already notorious for scheduling ad breaks with little regard for natural breaks or critical points in shows - just look at the commercial digital channels when they show films or repeats of BBC programmes. Even specialist film channels such as Film 4 are apparently incapable of showing entire films without regular and often inappropriately-timed ad breaks.

This is appauling

I'll be highly unlikely to sit through something containing much of this. The concerns for impact are a bit silly too, some people like watching adverts, and those that don't probably always skipped them. I often tape stuff on video to watch later, fast-forwarding through the adverts. If I'm watching something as it's broadcast I flick through other channels or at the very least hit "mute".
