Taffin tennis

and The Queen's song for Willy and Kata

Yeah

Funniest thing on the radio at the moment.

The bit in the last podcast, with the teacher who talks in the third person, was especially funny.

0
Brookster | 14 June 2011 - 2:09pm

What the hell is all that about?

… ah Ok, after much research, apparently its a very old film called "Taffin" which apparently had Pierce Brosnan in it. This seems to be a few bits of Brosnan's presumably terrible performance thrown together in about 5 minutes in Garage Band. But is that funny? - Is it likely to have you rolling on the floor with righteous laughter? I would venture to suggest that the answer to that is a resounding no. Unless of course you are plagued with the mental age of a ten year old.

Maybe there's some sharply observed, and topical joke that I am missing? Or maybe its just what it looks like?

Marky | 14 June 2011 - 2:48pm

Bring them back

The down arrows, I mean. "...plagued with the mental age of a ten year old"? FFS.

4
Rosbif | 14 June 2011 - 2:56pm

Are you Pierce Brosnan, Marky?

Because only he could get as upset and rude about this as you have.

1
Five-Centres | 14 June 2011 - 3:00pm

Maybe *you* shouldn't be living heeeeeeaaaarrrrggghhhh

taking the Piers Bronson ('Bronhomme') mickey is one of their motifs as is songs in the style of David Bowie, surreal Cilla/HRH impressions and more.
The 'thrown together in 5 mins in garageband' aspect of their show is also part of their charm, I think. For me - delighted as I am that Danny Baker has returned to Saturday mornings, I missed A D A M ampersand J O E more.

Some of their stuff is a bit childish. Some of their stuff has me crying with laughter on the way to work.

2
badartdog | 14 June 2011 - 3:00pm

Oh, thanks

Now I've got the "Podcast Groove" jingle in my head again. Curses.

0
Steve Riddle | 14 June 2011 - 3:21pm

I was in the habit

of listening to the podcast on my Monday morning train journey, but there have been some occasions when I just couldn't stop myself from laughing. The original 'Steven!' thing was so funny that I had to get off the train to compose myself.

Of course, this makes me the 'local loony on public transport', so I now listen from the safety of my flat.

0
Brookster | 14 June 2011 - 3:25pm

So now you're the local

looney laughing in his flat. Its a step up in anyone's book

Its usally when they have Bowie conversations that have me clutching onto breath for dear life

0
DogFacedBoy | 14 June 2011 - 3:30pm

Dont know much about them

but I thought it was hilarious but what do I know? - I am only 10.

2
Steve Turner | 14 June 2011 - 7:36pm

Would it REALLY have been so difficult

to just not comment? To think, "I don't find this funny, but rather than call everyone who enjoys it 'infantile,' I'll just carry on with my life"?

9
Joe R | 14 June 2011 - 3:11pm

Well in other words

1
DogFacedBoy | 14 June 2011 - 3:04pm

Sorry, Marky - you're in the wrong room

If you want an argument you can pop next door to the Rob Fitzpatrick review thread.

Abuse, if you prefer, is down the hallway on the right.

0
Uncle Monty | 14 June 2011 - 3:11pm

no

it isn't

0
DogFacedBoy | 14 June 2011 - 3:13pm

In the wrong room?

then maybe YOU SHOULDN'T BE POSTING HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

4
Joe R | 14 June 2011 - 3:16pm

Damn …

… wrong room? I do that in hospitals too.

All fair points made fairly. If you just leave me, I'll just revert back to my self flagellation now, thanks.

3
Marky | 14 June 2011 - 3:20pm

You know those people who say

'I put away childish things'? They are right tiresome buggers

4
DogFacedBoy | 14 June 2011 - 2:50pm

Here's some more Buxton siliness

with someone famed for not being chucklesome and even HE finds this purile humour funny

2
DogFacedBoy | 14 June 2011 - 3:07pm

This series has been a lorra lorra lully fun

and I will miss them when they're gone. But hopefully Adam's Mixtape will return - I enjoyed that just as much.

I'm gonna lick your legs, I love you, bye

0
Georgedivided | 14 June 2011 - 3:16pm

LULLYBIFF

2
Bob | 14 June 2011 - 3:20pm

Loved it..

especially the "You abandoned me - love don't live here ANY MOORREEEEEE" had me crying with laughter!

0
Mike B | 14 June 2011 - 3:30pm

I haven't heard that

but I'm sitting in my office giggling at the thought of it. I don't know what it is about them, but they are just hilarious together.

0
badartdog | 14 June 2011 - 3:42pm

STEPHEN!

The pair of them have me in hysterics on a Saturday morning

0
Fuzzy | 14 June 2011 - 4:03pm

JUST COMING!

Actually, literally just coming

1
ganglesprocket | 14 June 2011 - 4:06pm

Biggest laugh this season...

...for me was the story of the Irish train ticket collector: "Here's a bin that never gets full". I almost crashed the car laughing.

1
DrJ | 14 June 2011 - 4:46pm

Oh, for me...

...it has to be the Theme Time Radio Hour phone-in. I had to stop listening on the train, because I was literally crying. Tears rolling down my face. Lots of vey bemused passengers.

0
Bob | 14 June 2011 - 4:58pm

So do we think Cornballs will be back?

As much fun as the radio show must be to do, I imagine on any number of levels it doesn't compete with writing films for Spielberg and writing and directing your own. For Dr Buckles and my sake at least I hope so. No exaggeration to say I've never felt such affection, and that's the right word, for anything on the radio/TV before. Unimprovable and unbeatable.

1
Madrid | 14 June 2011 - 5:18pm

Oh, I hope so.

I love how much Buxletrix and Scornflash love each other. I love that they make each other laugh as much as they do me. I'm the same as you: I am fonder of Adam and Joe than I really should be of two blokes I've never met.

1
Bob | 14 June 2011 - 5:31pm

I love Adam & Joe more than pretty much anything

I put on a homemade compilation of the best of Song Wars at a party last weekend - both the people who knew the songs and the people who didn't were howling with laughter by the end. Pretty much the only reason I bother to go to work is that it affords me the opportunity to listen to their podcast on the walk in. These two men justify the licence fee on their own.

0
Ben Walker | 14 June 2011 - 6:02pm

The only other pair that matched them

Was the Danny Baker-Danny Kelly partnership. I wish they'd get back together again.

1
Brookster | 14 June 2011 - 6:07pm

blah-boobity-baya-boo-bah

and 2 years later came this

WARNING: you may lose all bodily control by the time Joe reads the letter

2
DogFacedBoy | 14 June 2011 - 6:37pm

I don't have much to add...

Except that I love them too... And wish they were on all the time...

0
Adman | 14 June 2011 - 6:45pm

Garth Jennings

In agreement with those above, it's fantastic.

I had the pleasure of seeing Adam's BUG show in Manchester last month too, very good.

I also really like the Garth Jennings episodes, he's covered for them both at various times. If it's down to availability, it would be great to see him promoted to co-host, then whichever two were available could do it.

kidpresentable | 14 June 2011 - 7:24pm

Party pom pom

Best. song. ever.

Luv you BYEEEEE!!!

1
Roo | 14 June 2011 - 7:47pm

Blooming marvelous! Easily my favourite song of theirs

but I can't help thinking that if it was written by a white middle class British man I wouldn't be giving it such an easy ride.

3
Cobweb Steve | 14 June 2011 - 8:12pm

Let's go to the phones...

1
Bob | 14 June 2011 - 7:56pm

Dreading the end of this season

Like most people here, I agree that this show is something special. I guess this must be how Prince Charles feels about the Goons. Will be sad when the season ends, and would be quite happy if Garth could stand-in if Joe is too busy poncing around in LA (America?!?! - I hear they have coca-cola coming out of the taps!!!) Better the Adam and Garth show than no show at all. So do we know if there'll be another season? And if so, when??

0
Spaceb0y | 14 June 2011 - 8:00pm

As nice as I'm sure Garth is...

...it's just not the same without Scornballs.

0
Bob | 14 June 2011 - 8:02pm

Garth

Plus, Garth Jennings is a film / pop vid director so doubt he'll have too much time to sub for Dr Sexy
