The Word - festival??

badger_king's picture

After having a weird, exceptionally vivid, dream about the Glastonbury where Michael Eavis hands over full responsibility of the festival to Emily, I started thinking.

What are the possibilities of a festival run by the Word? Rather than a outdoor summer festival, it could be more of a winter, ATP style event. And, as the line-up would be chosen by the Word or the Massive, we would all be willing to attend.

Just a thought anyway. I for one think it would be amazing to see members of the Word staff being musically creative (Hepworth covering "Way Down In The Hole" on a ukulele, anyone??)

What do other people think? And who would you want to play at such a shinding??

I'd like to nominate:

Epic45
Mulatu Astatke
Portishead
Roots Manuva

Mulatu Astatke - seconded

I'd love to see him.

I'd add Petra Haden to the bill, too.

All Tomorrows Parties

It's a festival which often takes place off-season and uses Holiday-Camp-locations such as Pontins, rather than outdoor camping.

No Word festival would be complete...

(*grumbles*) I hate festivals. And Hippies.

Can't they just hold a car boot sale instead, on a disused patch of waste ground, somewhere outside Reading?

Random, off-the-top-of-head choices: Pernice Brothers, Shortwave Set, Kevin Ayers, The Week That Was, Aimee Mann, the New Pornographers.

Also: French-Canadian folkies La Bottine Souriante - one of the most irresistably entertaining, life-affirming live experiences I've ever had.
