The Word demographic
Is the reason that Mr Hepworth kicks off the iPod randomizer every now and again, just a crafty way for Word HQ to check on the listening habits and demographic of Word readers/bloggers? If so, I would have a stab that the typical reader/blogger is:
Male
In his 40s and 50s
Considers he has a catholic taste in music
Still buys CDs
Still has his vinyl collection
Has at least one album in more than one format (vinyl, CD and remastered download)
Can't be doing with anything in the iTunes Top 10 singles
Only goes to gigs once or twice a year
Fondly remembers when TOTP was on every Thursday
Fast forwards over a lot of the indie stuff on 'Later..with Jools Holland'
Thinks that Glastonbury is the highlight of the music calendar, but has bever been
OK, I admit it. It's me. But is it you as well?

well...
Male - yes
In his 40s and 50s - not yet. a youthful looking 38.
Considers he has a catholic taste in music - Oh but of course.
Still buys CDs - but can't find CD racks anymore to put them in.
Still has his vinyl collection - at my mum's
Has at least one album in more than one format (vinyl, CD and remastered download) - I have a few albums on several formats, and the likes of Deluxe Editions have doubled certain artist's catalogues.
Can't be doing with anything in the iTunes Top 10 singles - Now, ah, I believe you shouldn't be a snob and that if you're remotely into music, you should always know what the No.1 is. Saying that, my last iTunes purchase was a Subhumans track.
Only goes to gigs once or twice a year - more once or twice, even three times a month.
Fondly remembers when TOTP was on every Thursday - sniffff!
Fast forwards over a lot of the indie stuff on 'Later..with Jools Holland' - I can't comment on that.
Thinks that Glastonbury is the highlight of the music calendar, but has never been - It has its place, and I have been before, but if the tumbleweed that swept across my desk that wknd suggests anything, is that everyone else went, just not me.
Almost.
Apart from the gigs/Glastonbury thing. (which *is* the highlight of the music calendar, and why I make the effort to get there!)
I think that, taken as a whole, the Word Massive attend more then their fair share of gigs. They'll be the greying ones at the back, tutting.
I'm not so sure
I used to go to loads of gigs of all kinds when I was a younger man. Now I can't be bothered because either it's too much of hassle to get tickets or too expensive. And when I get there I don't get the same (non-chemical) buzz I used to get.
As for me...
45
Catholic tastes? Nah mate. I know what I like. I only ever listen to Merseybeat.
Still buy CD's? Haven't bought one for over eight months.
Sold my vinyl collection years ago. And good riddance. It crackles and pops and takes up too much space.
The only format I have now is CD.
Have no ipod. Have never visited itunes. Have never downloaded a song.
Maybe two, three gigs a year. Although I play in a band ( does that count? )
Liked TOTP but was always more of an OGWT man.
I fast forward the entire Later show. The only good thing I ever saw on it was Jellyfish.
Glastonbury is hell.
Fairly close....
...I don't know what a catholic taste in music is.
Half a dozen gigs a year....would like to go to more but find it hard to get friends interested.
I'm not interested in outdoor festivals though.
Not quite
5/11 for me.
Don't have my vinyl anymore, don't have anything in multiple formats, go to lots of gigs, don't remember TOTP fondly, don't watch Jools at all, have been to Glastonbury multiple times but have never considered it a highlight.
Catholic tastes
Everyone thinks they have an eclectic taste in music, just the other day someone was telling me how they have a really wide and varied taste in music and that turned out to mean lots of indie bands plus Johnny Cash.
What would be great is something that actually gives you an objective readout of eclecticism. Basically you plug in the number of albums listen under each genre on their ipod and a formula gives them a rating. I suspect that most of the people who like to witter on about how musically open minded they are will turn out to be rather more limited in their adventerousness.
Well...
if you use Last FM, you can pretty much do precisely that if you add a little widget from a bunch called http://omi.musickum.com/.
Indeed
Mrs Elliott and myself were having just this discussion whilst listening to 'Popmaster' on the Ken Bruce show. Everyone, it seems, has a wide taste in music. Does this mean that they really really like lots of music, or that they don't really like anything to any great level.
I'd like to hear about people who are happy to claim a very limited musical taste; is there anyone out there who only listens to, say, Bob Dylan, or bands from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal?
Catholic
Adjective. Broad or wide-ranging in tastes, interests, or the like; having sympathies with all; broad-minded; liberal
Thanks Handsome!
It's not a term I've ever used......I'll try to squeeze it into my vocabulary.
You're welcome gorgeous
Memo to self: Must change Blog ID
And as Alexei Sayle once said
I have a very catholic taste in music.....I like anything by the Pope.
Boom and, indeed, boom.
Pretty much on the money...
..but
- go to a good few gigs in pubs and small venues, and in recent years, have been to a few outdoor all-dayers.
- fast forward through about 50% of Later, usually the landfill, but sometimes the 'legends'.
Pretty spot on
Male - yes
In his 40s and 50s - yes - 41
Considers he has a catholic taste in music - yes
Still buys CDs - yes
Still has his vinyl collection - sort of but never play iy
Has at least one album in more than one format (vinyl, CD and remastered download) - yes
Can't be doing with anything in the iTunes Top 10 singles - yes. itunes full stop to be honest.
Only goes to gigs once or twice a year
Fondly remembers when TOTP was on every Thursday - more or less
Fast forwards over a lot of the indie stuff on 'Later..with Jools Holland' - Don't watch often.
Thinks that Glastonbury is the highlight of the music calendar, but has bever been - Probably true. Am aiming to go to Cornbury next year.
Male - Yes In his 40s and
Male - Yes
In his 40s and 50s - No. Am 30
Considers he has a catholic taste in music - Yes
Still buys CDs - Yes
Still has his vinyl collection - Yes
Has at least one album in more than one format (vinyl, CD and remastered download) - Yes
Can't be doing with anything in the iTunes Top 10 singles - No
Only goes to gigs once or twice a year - No
Fondly remembers when TOTP was on every Thursday - Yes
Fast forwards over a lot of the indie stuff on 'Later..with Jools Holland' - No
Thinks that Glastonbury is the highlight of the music calendar, but has bever been - Have been nearly ten times
Moi?
Male: Yes
In his 40s and 50s: No, 30s
Catholic taste in music: No, I like the devils own too
Buys CDs: No, very rare thesedays
Vinyl collection: Sort of...it was never huge
One album in more than one format (vinyl): One probably
iTunes Top 10 singles: Never
Gigs: Keep it small and local
TOTP was on every Thursday: Dont miss it
'Later..with Jools Holland'. Prefer to youtube gigs
Glastonbury: Never been and dont care much about it
Close... but no cigar
Male - yes
In his 40s and 50s - surely that should be 40s or 50s? Nobody can be in both, can they? I'm 41.
Considers he has a catholic taste in music - not really. I like a lot of stuff, but I have my favourites
Still buys CDs - occasionally, but only for 'special' editions with great packaging or when they're dirt cheap in Fopp. They all get burned to the iPod whatever.
Still has his vinyl collection - yes, but it's in the loft now.
Has at least one album in more than one format (vinyl, CD and remastered download) - yes, but I've never downloaded an album that I have on CD. I don't think...
Can't be doing with anything in the iTunes Top 10 singles - wouldn't be so judgemental. The occasional brilliant track makes it into the iTunes Top 10. Not that I can tell you what's in it today.
Only goes to gigs once or twice a year - more like 4 or 5 times, but I've never been much of a gig-goer.
Fondly remembers when TOTP was on every Thursday - oh yes.
Fast forwards over a lot of the indie stuff on 'Later..with Jools Holland' - I fast forward over a lot of stuff on Later, mainly Jules's painful "interviews".
Thinks that Glastonbury is the highlight of the music calendar, but has bever been - have little time for or interest in festivals. I went to Reading in 1989 and thought it was unutterably awful. I'll watch them on TV if they're on but wouldn't want to go to another. Not even Latitude.
iTunes Top 10
Just looked at the iTunes Top 10 "songs" (as at 1913BST on 29 July 2008). There are a couple of good pop songs in there, in my opinion:
Noah & the Whale - 5 Years' Time (Sun Sun Sun)
Gabriella Cilmi - Sweet About Me
And the Ting Tings single is OK...ish.
Apart from that, it's pants a-go-go. But it's not ALL bad!
Close
Male - yep
In his 40s and 50s - yep - 50
Considers he has a catholic taste in music - bien sûr
Still buys CDs - currently having a buying break, but yes, really
Still has his vinyl collection - yep - and listen to it
Has at least one album in more than one format (vinyl, CD and remastered download) - yep
Can't be doing with anything in the iTunes Top 10 singles - nope
Only goes to gigs once or twice a year - naa - monthly probably, specially small/obscure stuff
Fondly remembers when TOTP was on every Thursday - nope - but do miss OGWT
Fast forwards over a lot of the indie stuff on 'Later..with Jools Holland' - yep, and the checkbox R&B / dance stuff
Thinks that Glastonbury is the highlight of the music calendar, but has bever been - no and no - but went to Cornbury and Folk by th Oak this year, have been to Cropredy and loved it (mind you it didn't rain)....
Me
Male - I was last time I checked.
In his 40s and 50s - Nope, 37
Considers he has a catholic taste in music - Eclectic rather than catholic (unless that means the same thing).
Still buys CDs - Yup
Still has his vinyl collection - In the attic, never played, yes.
Has at least one album in more than one format (vinyl, CD and remastered download)- Yes.
Can't be doing with anything in the iTunes Top 10 singles - True
Only goes to gigs once or twice a year - Bit more than that, location (Swansea) being the problem rather than inclination.
Fondly remembers when TOTP was on every Thursday - Yes, I'd love to watch it now, and scowl at the "new bands" like my Dad used to.
Fast forwards over a lot of the indie stuff on 'Later..with Jools Holland' - Nah, still listen to the whole programme.
Thinks that Glastonbury is the highlight of the music calendar, but has bever been - Been many times, not for the last 10 years though.
So Near! - So Far !
Male - Yes
In his 40s and 50s - Yes
Considers he has a catholic taste in music - Yes
Still buys CDs - Rarely and only when there's a bonus CD/DVD and some cool packaging like the deluxe version of 22 Dreams or discounted to below the €9.99 price point.
Still has his vinyl collection - Yes but was more of a cassette man myself (portability) but still have those too.
Has at least one album in more than one format (vinyl, CD and remastered download) - Yep replaced most of the cassette's and vinyl with downloads (dodgy and otherwise)
Can't be doing with anything in the iTunes Top 10 singles - There's an iTunes top 10??
Only goes to gigs once or twice a year Sadly yes
Fondly remembers when TOTP was on every Thursday - Yes but also remembers that the excitment was wading through the shite in the hope that someone cool would be on
Fast forwards over a lot of the indie stuff on 'Later..with Jools Holland' - Mostly only fast forwards the modern RnB. Got to love lots of new stuff from Jools lately particularly the marvelous Operator Please
Thinks that Glastonbury is the highlight of the music calendar, but has bever been - that would reflect the anglo-centrism of the Word Massive. Being Irish I could only get to Féile and Reading once when in England. Never been to Oxegen though!
FF
Sorry Gramsci. If Youtube had a fast forward button, I'd have hit it after 20 seconds when looking at this video. But, as my granddad used to say, "it's a good job we're not all the same".
Weightist vid alert!
I agree with you about Operator Please, Gramsci. I loved their appearance on Later recently, and was pleased to see another band with a fuller-figured frontwoman in the shape of Amandah Wilkinson. Good to see another band breaking the taboo against any lead singer daring to be un-svelte. But what's this? In the video, we see all the other - relatively skinny - band members full-body, whilst poor Amandah is relegated to head-and-shoulders shots. The message couldn't be more blatant - either the director or the band have "issues" about her weight. So sleight-of-frame is resorted to. Presumably if they play Later again, they'll hide her behind a screen. What a shame!
Oh yes - me too!
9 out of 11 for me.
I go to more than one or two gigs a year. More like 7 or 8.
And Glastonbury? No I've never been and probably never will - it just seems like too hard work!
Men only
Are there any female Word bloggers out there?
Maybe I'm the only one!
Mid forties
Mum sold all my vinyl in a yard sale when I moved to the UK.
I down load music, but not from itunes (say no more), I do download podcasts from itunes however.
I consider my tastes in music to be perfect, not Catholic, as I am An atheist.
Last gig I went to was Flaming Lips in 2005. I live in rural France now so unless I want to look at farm machinery I wont be seeing another for a while.
Glastonbury hurts my calf muscles, haven't been for years.
I am, and have always been, a woman.
Free market research for the Word team?
Anyway, here goes...
Male- Yes
In his 40s and 50s- No, I'm 20! (I know I'm not the youngest person here though)
Considers he has a catholic taste in music- Yes, but I have blind-spots
Still buys CDs- Yes
Still has his vinyl collection- Used to buy them second hand but gave up when CDs came down in price
Has at least one album in more than one format (vinyl, CD and remastered download)- yes, but not too many really
Can't be doing with anything in the iTunes Top 10 singles- indeed, I cannot, but then I don't have an iPod yet
Only goes to gigs once or twice a year- have been going to a few most months over the past year or so
Fondly remembers when TOTP was on every Thursday- it was Friday for me (Take That/Britpop/Spice Girls era)!
Fast forwards over a lot of the indie stuff on 'Later..with Jools Holland'- if they are British, I can't reach for the remote fast enough, yes
Thinks that Glastonbury is the highlight of the music calendar, but has never been- never been but am not that bothered either!
Here goes.....
Male-Yes
In his 40s and 50s-Not quite yet, still only 39!!
Considers he has a catholic taste in music-very!
Still buys CDs-Too many!
Still has his vinyl collection-Yep
Has at least one album in more than one format (vinyl, CD and remastered download)-Guilty as charged!
Can't be doing with anything in the iTunes Top 10 singles-Can't be doing with any modern chart!
Only goes to gigs once or twice a year- That's gonna change!
Fondly remembers when TOTP was on every Thursday-And good!
Fast forwards over a lot of the indie stuff on 'Later..with Jools Holland'-I give it a few minutes just in case I'll miss out on something great!
Thinks that Glastonbury is the highlight of the music calendar, but has bever been-And never will be, I never liked outdoor festivals, not even when I was a teenager!_
7
7 for me though i'm assuming i would do the Jools fast forwarding bit as i can't get to see it here.
Ooooh! A questionnaire! Autopilot post follows...
Male - Yup
In his 40s and 50s - 51
Considers he has a catholic taste in music - none more so.
Still buys CDs - Check.
Still has his vinyl collection. Nah, chucked it. Obsolete.
Has at least one album in more than one format (vinyl, CD and remastered download) - No, I always pass the "old" version to the local charity shop.
Can't be doing with anything in the iTunes Top 10 singles - Almost never use iTunes, I stick with eMusic and CDs.
Only goes to gigs once or twice a year - No, in recent times I've resumed gig-going since discovering the wonderful world of local gigs, in Lichfield when at home, and in St.Ives when on holiday. Recent such gigs include Los de Abajo, The Ukelele Orchestra Of Great Britain, and Shooglenifty. Eliza Carthy, and Rachel Unthank & The Winterset are amongst this Autumn's attractions. I think we average about 15 gigs each year, now.
Fondly remembers when TOTP was on every Thursday - Yes. Along with late-night Peel shows on the radio, it soundtracked my teens.
Fast forwards over a lot of the indie stuff on 'Later..with Jools Holland' - No, I always give everything on the show a fair hearing, unless I really know in advance it's someone I can't stand. And that's more likely to be a dinosaur than some bunch of young indie bucks.
Thinks that Glastonbury is the highlight of the music calendar, but has bever been. - Spot on, that one's me to a "T".
Mystic Meg has entered the building
Relatively accurate....
An old looking 38 (a life peppered with spells at the University of Hard Knocks - and UCL earlier)
Love the Ting Tings, Skynyrd and the Boss
Hate Glastonbury with a passion only equalled by Nicky Wire (tent stolen in 1990)
Think The Flaming Lips, Elbow and Coldplay are all different garments on The Emporer's New Clothes.
Have Born to Run on 4 different formats....(though not a download) - Ouch!
9 out of 11
For me as well. We are such a predictable bunch aren't we? Though I would argue the gig thing was more down to location (Northern Ireland) than inclination in my case.
Unlikely to improve much in these financially challenging times either. I'm afraid gig going is more likely to be an all to rare treat.
Oh dear I am a marketable-to demographic
Male - Yes
In his 40s and 50s - 30s
Considers he has a catholic taste in music - Yes
Still buys CDs - A bit but not so much
Still has his vinyl collection - And gets new second hand stuff at cheap prices
Has at least one album in more than one format (vinyl, CD and remastered download) - Sadly been doing this for too long
Can't be doing with anything in the iTunes Top 10 singles - Generally
Only goes to gigs once or twice a year - No about that a month
Fondly remembers when TOTP was on every Thursday - Yeo
Fast forwards over a lot of the indie stuff on 'Later..with Jools Holland' - actually can't be doing with it at all - too much farting around
Thinks that Glastonbury is the highlight of the music calendar, but has bever been - Been a couple of times but not for about ten years - can't be doing with sheer awfulness of conditions
10/11
Can't do with things in fields, being a child of the asphalt (although I have seen Bruce at both a football and a cricket ground).
An extra identifier to do with acquiring bootlegs/ROIO?
And how the hell did the term 'catholic' come to include that word 'liberal' in the definition above? I haven't forgotten what they did to Galileo.
Catholic means universal
Catholic means universal (from the Greek "Katholikos"). Anyway, it sounds weird if you say you've got presbyterian taste in music.
Moreover...
... you wouldn't want a Calvinist taste in music.
Would a Quaker taste in music consist of blank CDs?
7/11 for me by the way
6 out of 11
Must try harder. But I am not saying which ones - MORI would pay good money for what you are getting for free.
I will admit to saying I will quit gig-going when I feel I am the oldest in the venue. Not happened yet but I don't go to any Primal Scream/Babyshambles, er, dances.
Sorry, hops.
ish
Male - yes
In his 40s and 50s - Nope, a "mere" 31
Considers he has a catholic taste in music - yes, albeit far from all-encompassing.
Still buys CDs - yes, many, many.
Still has his vinyl collection - never had much of a vinyl collection - just a few 12-inch singles and the odd result of a competition win
Has at least one album in more than one format (vinyl, CD and remastered download) - yes, though this will be cassette and then CD rather than vinyl or download.
Can't be doing with anything in the iTunes Top 10 singles - I have never used iTunes and I didn't know it has a chart. That's not to say I wouldn't like things which are in it.
Only goes to gigs once or twice a year - no, on average 10-15 a year, I'd say.
Fondly remembers when TOTP was on every Thursday - yes.
Fast forwards over a lot of the indie stuff on 'Later..with Jools Holland' - no, no, no - I don't fast-forward over anything but the indie stuff would be some of what I'm least likely to fast-forward over.
Thinks that Glastonbury is the highlight of the music calendar, but has bever been - I'll give you that one.

Subscribing
Fleet Foxes plus spending more time on this website reading the enticing words of Mr Hepworth has lured me into subscribing this month, too. Love what I've heard of FF so far, plus I've bought every single issue of (The) Word since the first one in the shops anyway so about time I saved myself a few bob.
I'd quite like to know from
I'd quite like to know from Mr Hepworth if Word actually bothers with market research - on the basis of this thread, it seems the waste of money I always suspected.
9/11
I put nearly all my vinyl into the stock when I set up as a record dealer in about 1993. The only vinyl I kept was my Wonder Stuff collection - which I still have.
I have just the one duplicated album, which I bought again when the special edition with a bonus live CD came out. Never again.
I do look forward to the TV coverage of Glastonbury but having been once, in 1994, I don't feel the need to go again.
No! It's not me (much)
I am *fanfare* female (am I the only one?)
I'm in my early 30s
Yes, I'd say I have a catholic taste in music, given the definition further up this thread.
Still buy CDs... too many...
I started buying CDs at the tender age of 12, so never really had a vinyl collection
Yes, have several albums in more than one format.
I'm still interested in what's in the itunes top 10! although hit rate of what I'd actually buy is pretty low, admittedly...
I only go to gigs once or twice a year, but that's only because it's tricky to get babysitters...
Not only fondly remembers when TOTP was on every Thursday, I curse when Andi Peters is on tv as I still blame him entirely for its demise.
Can't actually being doing with "Later..." because I find Jools Holland unbearably smug
Loved Glastonbury, went twice (but not since meeting husband, is his idea of hell)
Has no one else seen this then..?

Blimey
Look at that rate card. How much???
What's a DPS, OBC and IFC when they're at home?
Rather put a card in the post office window meeself.
DPS
must be a Double Page Spread, and I'm guessing OBC is either One Bad Corner or Outside Back Cover and IFC is Interesting Forgotten Corner or Inside Front Cover.
Good grief!
Word HQ have got us sussed. If I'd had known this page existed, I wouldn't have bothered with my original post.
In need of an update
That "Welcome to Word" page is in need of an update, isn't it? Unless the blessed Jude is making an as-yet-unannounced comeback...
Let's skew this then...
Male - Nope, I am a gurl.
In his 40s and 50s - yes, 43.
Considers he has a catholic taste in music - well, of course!
Still buys CDs - yes.
Still has his vinyl collection - yes, and my deck is wired up.
Has at least one album in more than one format (vinyl, CD and remastered download) - I've recently had to download some stuff while I figure out how to work the tape to digital converter thingy
Can't be doing with anything in the iTunes Top 10 singles - no idea what's in it, I don't do iTunes.
Only goes to gigs once or twice a year - No! I go A LOT, mostly small, don't really do the big stadium stuff, I like to get close!
Fondly remembers when TOTP was on every Thursday - well, of course!
Fast forwards over a lot of the indie stuff on 'Later..with Jools Holland' - have gone off it, unless there's someone I really want to see.
Thinks that Glastonbury is the highlight of the music calendar, but has bever been - couldn't give a proverbial for Glastonbury, it's too big and too corporate. Latitude is lovely and Benicassim is FAB.
Benicassim...
..good shout. Been once, loved it. Damned Spain-dwelling mates I attended with have decided to get all grown-up and sprog-drop, so a repeat has been scuppered for a while!
Hmm
Male - Mostly
In his 40s and 50s - not for 5 years yet
Considers he has a catholic taste in music - yes, but, as I wrote further up, I'm not sure that's a good thing. If push came to shove, I could get by with only Joe Jackson and Prince.

Fast forwards over a lot of the indie stuff on 'Later..with Jools Holland' - Always have.
Thinks that Glastonbury is the highlight of the music calendar, but has bever been - No and yes. That would be the Greenbelt festival, this year with the best lineup in years and I can't go.
Yes and No
Male - Yup.
In his 40s and 50s - Nearly, 39.
Considers he has a catholic taste in music - Think so.
Still buys CDs - only direct from artist. Most recent "Turtledove Boutique" Billy Franks - excellent.

Has at least one album in more than one format (vinyl, CD and remastered download) - Indeed.
Can't be doing with anything in the iTunes Top 10 singles - Correct.
Only goes to gigs once or twice a year - bit more than that but they all seem to be oldies.
Fondly remembers when TOTP was on every Thursday - When it was good.
Fast forwards over a lot of the indie stuff on 'Later..with Jools Holland' - Don't really do indie.
Thinks that Glastonbury is the highlight of the music calendar, but has never been - Nah but will watch bits on telly.

Gigs - I´d like to go more , honestly I would but I can´t be bothered with crowds and queueing.
TOTP - Yep
Jools Holland - Don´t get it where I live
Glastonbury - I always look to see who´s on the bill but probably couldn´t find Glastonbury on a map
10/11
Fast forward anyone I find a bit dull on 'Later...' after first song they do, not just indie. Scarily accurate otherwise though.
Here we go...
Male In his 40s and 50s----getting there but 37.

Only goes to gigs once or twice a year----Sounds about right.
Fondly remembers when TOTP was on every Thursday----Most definately.
Fast forwards over a lot of the indie stuff on 'Later..with Jools Holland'----Don't get Jools Holland here but have DVD's and am happy to watch anything if I like it.
Thinks that Glastonbury is the highlight of the music calendar, but has bever been----No and yes. Went to Madstock in the early nineties and left before Madness even came on. Ghastly experience. I like to be comfortable these days.
Missed it by that much
Male - yes
In his 40s and 50s - 24, Is what my mother tells me
Considers he has a catholic taste in music - No, I regularly get, "Why can't you listen to normal music?"
Still buys CDs - Yeah, maybe one or two a week
Still has his vinyl collection - original white album with pictures and poster, reggae, smiths records, MC5 it's a bit of a collection but at the moment it's mixed in with my dad, mum's and brother collection
Has at least one album in more than one format (vinyl, CD and remastered download) - I have the smiths in all formats, in our house if you put your hand down you'll find a bowie record on some format.
Can't be doing with anything in the iTunes Top 10 singles - No credit card so hence no Itunes for me.
Only goes to gigs once or twice a year - one a month probably
Fondly remembers when TOTP was on every Thursday - I'm Australian, so no, i did see the downfall when I was living in Manchester.
Fast forwards over a lot of the indie stuff on 'Later..with Jools Holland' - No, I normally walk out of the room for the veteran trying to get back into the business.
Thinks that Glastonbury is the highlight of the music calendar, but has never been - Never been, don't know if I want to.
Blimey I'm a stereotype
Male (yes)
In his 40s and 50s (I'm 44)
Considers he has a catholic taste in music (yes)
Still buys CDs (indeed)
Still has his vinyl collection (yes, and I still buy vinyl)
Has at least one album in more than one format (vinyl, CD and remastered download) (yes, but I don't download (quality not good enough yet))
Can't be doing with anything in the iTunes Top 10 singles (didn't know there was such a thing)
Only goes to gigs once or twice a year (pretty much)
Fondly remembers when TOTP was on every Thursday (I do)
Fast forwards over a lot of the indie stuff on 'Later..with Jools Holland' (I fast forward sometimes but not only indie)
Thinks that Glastonbury is the highlight of the music calendar, but has bever been (but always wanted to go)
A pretty inspired list!
iTunes Top 10 moment of interest to WordBloke
This is currently at No.10 in the iTunes chart.
The facts I've ascertained:
1. This is their first single and it's amazing in a I-imagine-future-releases-will-eclipse-it kinda way.
2. There are five of them, and scientists are currently conducting research into what nicknames to give each member.
3. They toured with Girls Aloud, and look set to take over their mantle, now that Cheryl, Sarah, Nadine, Nicola and Kimberley have graduated into national treasure status with a raft of magazine covers detailing their weight/ inability to accessorise/ boyfriends/ drug issues.
4. It samples Yazoo's Situation
5. That's about the dimensions of it at the moment Saturdays-wise.
I Am...
Male: Yes
In his 40s/50s: 40's
Considers he has a catholic taste in music:
Have my own strict moral guideline to music and record buying.
Still buys CDs:
Rarely, will buy vinyl or download (eMusic is pretty good for old punk and Psych stuff).
Still has his vinyl collection: Oh yes!
Has at least one album in more than one format (vinyl, CD and remastered download): Yep
Can't be doing with anything in the iTunes Top 10 singles: Wouldn't know what was in the iTunes chart or any kind of chart these days, couldn't even tell you what the Number 1 single is now. Do they still do that?
Only goes to gigs once or twice a year:
No, I attend quite a few gigs but mainly if I can sit down on a balcony next to the bar.
Fondly remembers when TOTP was on every Thursday:
Yes, I remember the golden age of the late 70's early 80's Buzzcocks, Generation X, Specials, Ruts, Rezillos ah! those were the days!
Fast forwards over a lot of the indie stuff on 'Later..with Jools Holland':
Yes, just who are these bands? The Producer's kids or something?
Thinks that Glastonbury is the highlight of the music calendar, but has bever been:
Nope, been to Glastonbury once and that was enough.
a respectable 7 out of 11
Male - yes
In his 40s and 50s - no, but worryingly close
Considers he has a catholic taste in music - rocksnob you mean? yes
Still buys CDs - absolutely
Still has his vinyl collection - yes, but it's a domestic bone of contention. Current situation is an uneasy stand-off: "the vinyl goes when your shoe collection goes..."
Has at least one album in more than one format (vinyl, CD and remastered download) - as an example, Hatful of Hollow on vinyl, replacement vinyl due to wear and finally CD. So yes.
Can't be doing with anything in the iTunes Top 10 singles - could probably hum the odd line from Noah and the Whale, but the rest have passed me by
Only goes to gigs once or twice a year - no, more frequently
Fondly remembers when TOTP was on every Thursday - naturally
Fast forwards over a lot of the indie stuff on 'Later..with Jools Holland' - if bland yes, but no more than any other genre
Thinks that Glastonbury is the highlight of the music calendar, but has bever been - didn't miss one from 87 to mid 90s. Haven't been back since, and no real pangs
A humble enquiry.
How can you have a 'strict moral guideline' to record buying??
Strict moral guideline
Could this be that one doesn't buy Stereophonics records? (I may have a catholic taste in music, but there are limits).
Exactly!
And no buying records where a band member has that awful curly Kevin Keegan perm e.g. Kooks, Kaiser Chiefs, Zutons, Fratellis etc.
Give that man a medal...
well said, sir.
Permaround sound
ELO, queen.
Yes, it works for me!
That's acceptable
as they were around in the 70's.
Actually I just realized that I've already contradicted myself as I own a record by Go! Team and their bass player looks a bit of a tw*t...!
Good game, good game!
1.Male(Tick)
2. 51 (Tick)
3. I'm with the above: eclectic.
4. Absolutely (Tick)
5. 302 LPs, 50 45s, so lightweight. All the good tracks digitised into MP3. I say sell em, Mrs path says they are my "history"!
6. Many a vinyl/CD duplicate but no wholesale MP3-ery as if it's good enough to warrant that, surely I should get the "new" CD. Have downloaded the extra tracks from many a re-master, however.
7. Didn't know there was one!
8. Bollox! Can't go often enough, and, it's true, don't but 12 or so a year (down to). keep music live!
9. Very fondly, even if I had to deny any knowledge of who the long haired hippies were, for fear of suggesting any pleasure from the spectacle.
10. FFs over the whole of Later, these days. Its not, creak of old bones, what it was.
11. Bollox! Never the highlight. An interesting experience, which included some good music in my 2 forays, but not a patch, musically, on many other festival experiences, tho' normally culled from the yellow April pages in F(olk)roots. I suspect I have Duntentin, tho', as not Mrs Paths cup of tea, together with her introduction to me of th e preference I now have for Malmaisons and Hotels du Vin, amongst others. A good Cambridge remains an unfulfilled. Any good hotels near Cherry Hinton Park?
Far more whippersnappers in their 30s than I would have predicted!
Tick Tick Tick Tick....
Male - Yep
In his 40s and 50s - Yep - 50s(just)!
Catholic taste in music - Yep certainly wide ranging but with definite blindspots.
Still buys CDs - Yep - that's the only way to get some things without DRM.
Still has his vinyl - Yes - Carefully shelved in a room on a wall that doesn't get any direct sunshine through the window - I'm a bit concerned at the number of people that seem to keep their (presumably) cherished collection in the loft. Those temperature differences can't be good for vinyl. I won't even store CDs up there.
Has albums in more than one format - I have several albums where I have the vinyl and at least 3 different CD versions none of which can be disposed of due to the different bonus tracks - Fellow Costello fans will probably understand!
iTunes Top 10 singles - I use iTunes on an almost daily basis to organise my music library but only visit the iTunes store to subscribe to podcasts, I was unaware that it actually had a singles chart!
Gigs once or twice a year - Blimey! I'm likely to do that accident! I thought my gig-going was quite low compared to what it once was but I've already been to at least 10 this year and we're not even at the busy autumn period yet.
Fondly remembers when TOTP was on every Thursday - Yep.
Fast forwards over a lot of the indie stuff on 'Later..' - More likely to FF through the Radio 2 friendly stuff so I don't bother with it at all.
Thinks that Glastonbury is the highlight of the music calendar - Nope! I don't really understand the hype - if I'm not going then I'm not interested in it as a festival - I'll watch bits of it on the TV but I don't care where it's from or how muddy the "residents" are.
Ah music, how I love you so!
1. Male in my 30s.
2. I like to think I have a reasonably broad taste in music, moving from darker things like Slipknot or Sopor Aeturnus to lighter music like '80s synthpop and Abba. I'm currently going mad for neofolk (check out podcasts like Of Gods and Monsters and A Darker Side of Pagan!).
3. I still buy CDs - I like to put my music anorak on and read the sleeve notes the first time I listen to an album. Downloading might be instant but it's just not the same - although I will be eternally grateful to Trent Reznor for leaving his record label and putting out the last two Nine Inch Nails albums as free, or nearly free, downloads and following them up with physical releases so I've got the best of both worlds.
4. I (fairly reluctantly) got rid of my vinyl when I finally accepted that I was never going to listen to them again, as I've always preferred the clean sound of CDs.
5. Yes, I do have (or certainly used to) albums in more than one format - for example Marillion's Fugazi (their best album) on tape, vinyl, CD and remastered double CD.
6. iTunes has a singles chart?! I rarely look on there for anything other than podcasts.
7. I go to a gig probably once every two months. Not as much as I like, but the groups I like rarely seem to tour, and if they do it's not in my neck of the woods.
8. Yes, I do remember ToTP on Thursdays - the only day that it should ever have been on, since it meant you could talk about the show in school the next day, and then it was the weekend.
9. Later With Jools rarely seems to have anybody on that I like. And Jools might be a terrific pianist, but he is no interviewer.
10. Glastonbury might be some people's musical nirvana, but standing in a muddy field three miles from an act you don't like while some drugged-up escaped mental patient tries to sell you his shoe is not my idea of a good weekend. *Feeling a bit angry, Mr Lovegrove goes for a lie down in a darkened CD rack*
That said, isn't music just the best artform ever? What other form of cultural expression could create such passion among so many different people around the world?
50 pence, F- man
Male: Yes
In his 40s and 50s: I am in my mid 30s, although I suspect that my liver is somewhat older. Maybe if George Lamb and Dr Andrew Curran shout at it for a while, it will go back to being 34 like the rest of me.
Considers he has a catholic taste in music: It may not be mainstream but it’s conservatively leftfield. There are, I imagine, scores of people who have read the same reviews I have this year and have made more or less the same album purchases.
Still buys CDs: CDs will up my first choice right up until the format's prolonged death rattle (which will probably sound like an Autechre album). At this point some kind of midlife crisis will ensue, in which I will ponder whether I too am an obsolete format.
Still has his vinyl collection: I’ve taken to purchasing vinyl singles, partly as a ploy to recapture the innocence of my early record collecting days. If I play a piece of vinyl I will actually sit down and listen to it, rather than having it on in the background. I like watching the discs spinning around on the turntable. I find it relaxing.
Has at least one album in more than one format (vinyl, CD and remastered download): I have virtual copies of albums that I own on CD, however the digital format makes me uncomfortable. Computers are cantankerous devices, steeped in unfathomable bastardry; their hard drives brimming over with hatred and resentment of their human overlords. It takes a natural disaster such as a flood or a typhoon to destroy a physical record collection. A computer will erase a digital collection on a whim.
Can't be doing with anything in the iTunes Top 10 singles: The day I realised that no one was going to sleep with me on the basis of what was in my record collection was the day I started buying the music I genuinely enjoy, regardless of its popularity or perceived credibility.
Fondly remembers when TOTP was on every Thursday: I was suckled at the teat of TOTP. For many years it was my only source of music. You can’t go back though.
Fast forwards over a lot of the indie stuff on 'Later..with Jools Holland':
Like most television I watch Jools Holland in real time. There is no skipping past the bits with Lenny Kravitz, or the dull but worthy stuff that probably sounds great in a Juke Joint off Route 66, but is less plausible in a BBC studio on a Tuesday evening.
Only goes to gigs once or twice a year: This was me a couple of years ago. I made a point of only going to see bands I really liked and only if they were playing at small venues. Once there I would hang on every last note of music. I found the experience physically and mentally draining.
I don’t go to gigs anymore as it costs quite a bit of money to get up to London. There is also the interminable train journey home on the vomit comet, so called because you can spend what seems like decades staring into the heavens of Liverpool Street Station, waiting for the platform number to appear on the departures board.
Thinks that Glastonbury is the highlight of the music calendar, but has never been:
My concept of a musical calendar is related album release dates, rather than the musical equivalents of Christmas or Easter. Glastonbury is just something that happens once a year during the summer, like the day the flying ants emerge from under the tiles in the boiler cupboard and then die on the kitchen windowsill.
Almost on the money
Very close.
Personally I'm mid-40's. I always watched TOTP but can't say I ever really enjoyed the miming (once I found out they were)
Not big on Glastonbury or any outdoor festival. I like my music in a concert hall, where it will sound good, where I can see what's going on, where I can a get a drink beforehand and where I'm not bothered or distracted by twats milling about and getting in the way or erecting huge banners right in front of me negating the whole experience.
Nyerrrgh! Bloody kids.
Shamefully close
Male
In his 40s and 50s - 53
Considers he has a catholic taste in music - as long as its REALLY good, I'll prorbably like it
Still buys CDs - occasionally
Still has his vinyl collection - in use on the decks for festivals parties etc...
Has at least one album in more than one format (vinyl, CD and remastered download) - Ann Peebles - I can't Stand The Rain...
Can't be doing with anything in the iTunes Top 10 singles - not been there yet
Only goes to gigs once or twice a year - gigs and clubs - 6-10 times year
Fondly remembers when TOTP was on every Thursday - naturally
Fast forwards over a lot of the indie stuff on 'Later..with Jools Holland' - who doesn't?
Thinks that Glastonbury is the highlight of the music calendar, but has bever been - watched devotedly on TV, with a room full of plants brought in from the patio...
Male - Yes In his 40s and
Male - Yes
In his 40s and 50s - No, 33
Considers he has a catholic taste in music - Yes, I would say so...try and give everything a chance
Still buys CDs - No, its all digital
Still has his vinyl collection - No, didn't really have much of a collection, it may be in my parents loft, not sure
Has at least one album in more than one format (vinyl, CD and remastered download)- No, don't see the point
Can't be doing with anything in the iTunes Top 10 singles - try not to be too snobby about it, but most of it is garbage
Only goes to gigs once or twice a year - usually about 4 or 5 a year, really depends on who is playing
Fondly remembers when TOTP was on every Thursday - Yes, but it really went downhill
Fast forwards over a lot of the indie stuff on 'Later..with Jools Holland' - What is indie these days? Serparate posting I think
Thinks that Glastonbury is the highlight of the music calendar, but has bever been - No have never been, the highlight of my music calendar is a really good gig or a great new album
Middle-aged men...
... are the media stereotype this magazine has - though I'm not sure that being described as such at the age of 33 is a good or a bad thing. Yes, it does mean I've not long left on this earth - but on the other hand, I won't need to save up for a pension.
* I do have a wide variety of tastes - Toumani Diabate / The Magnetic Fields / Plastikman / Django Reinhart to name but 4 artists of varying styles.
* Still buy CD's, but with decreasing frequency.
* Very limited vinyl - CD's were the upcoming format when my fascination with music started at the age of 16.
* All CD's are now on my PC - not too fussed with putting tapes onto PC, but they do occasionally get an airing.
* Completely ignore the charts / iTunes Top 10.
* Never that interested in Top Of The Pops, which ever night it was on.
* Enjoy watching all of Jools Holland.
* It's a rule that I must go to one concert a month / or 12 in a year. It always works out far more than that - This year I've been to see The Ian McMillan Orchestra, Kathryn Williams & Neill MacColl, Teddy Thompson, Billy Bragg, Sons & Daughters Thea Gilmore, Goldfrapp, The Mangetic Fields - and this past weekend I saw KD Lang then Martha Wainwright in successive nights (and spent the rest of the weekend listening to free music on the Gateshead Quayside at the SummerTyne Americana festival).
Small outside gigs are fine - the bigger they get, it all gets a bit much for me - just end up with drunk teenagers kitted out by TopShop/TopMan arseing about.
As for Glastonbury - not fussed really. Would be better to go than watch on TV. TV just ends up trying to appeal to Radio One / NME crowd.
You've got it partially right...
First things first...Handsome P Wonderful has got to the best ID of anyone posting...assuming it's ironic, of course ;-)
I'm in my mid 40s.
I have albums in more than one format and a few in CD format where I've bought again in remastered or extended format.
I still have vinyl albums (not at my mum's) and sometimes I even play some of them, but only sometimes.
Goes to gigs sporadically. October will be a good month - Seasick Steve, Elbow, Fleet Foxes and maybe Reverend and the Makers. This year I've seen Eels, Neil Young, and EST. I even went to a Charlatans gig almost by accident!
Fondly remember Top of the Pops between 1973 and about 1980, lost interest after that.
Fast forward through quite a lot of Later, but have discovered some great stuff by watching it.
Thinks Glastonbury is the best thing to happen each year...works there every year and on a constant high for weeks afterwards.
It's not ironic
My parents had a strange sense of humour.
Early mid-life crisis
I am astounded that there are not more (actually, is there any?) under 30's on this thread.
This leads me to believe that either:
a) it is generally only the more mature reader that can be bothered commenting on the forum and that there is a misrepresented minority of spring chickens running around out there clutching their copies of Word
or
b) I am a sad, prematurely middle-aged muso with nothing to look forward to but a slow and lonely progression into a nursing home where they won't allow me my CD collection.
As a 27 year-old with no vinyl but hundreds of CDs, who refuses to buy albums digitally but still enjoys the odd gig and festival - I would hope that I am not in the wrong place at the wrong time of life. As a subscriber and reader of several years, I tend to believe not. Although there are times when the whole self-congratulatory, pat-on-the-back, "aren't all us Word readers a terribly tasteful and discerning lot"-type comments in the magazine really get on my mammaries...
The digital age
How do you manage to have hundreds of CDs when you refuse to buy your music digitally?
well, i was under 30 when I started reading Word...
but that doesn't count does it...
personally I'm still amazed at the lack of women. I count two in this thread (including me).
perhaps
there are a few women hiding just to avoid unwanted attention....
that's an interesting one...
hadn't actually occurred to me that might be the case. good point.
personally I've never felt the urge to hide my sex on the net, but then again I tend to stick to polite sites like this one where I wouldn't expect to be hassled anyway!
I concur
Popdoc, I agree pretty much entirely with your post above, only I happen to be four years older.
8 out of 11
as I hurtle towards the BIG FOUR-O!
Jeez...
Male - Yes In his 40s and
Male - Yes
In his 40s and 50s - No, 32.5
Considers he has a catholic taste in music - I'd like to think so, but as someone else mentioned above I am uniformed about a lot of stuff...
Still buys CDs - Less and less, but yesterday saw the ordering of Julian Cope's Black Sheep, and the pre-ordering of the new Decoration album.
Still has his vinyl collection - Such as it is, yes...Noit much more than a copy of Come ON Pilgrim, A Ned's Atomic Dustbin ep and Scooby Doo & The Mystery machine
Has at least one album in more than one format (vinyl, CD and remastered download)
Only Come On Pilgrim
Can't be doing with anything in the iTunes Top 10 singles - Know idea whats in it, but I might like some of it...I don't really pay attention to charts anymore
Only goes to gigs once or twice a year - I would love it to be more, but i suspect I average about 6 or 7...Gutter Twins, The Hold Steady & half Man Half Biscuit coming up..
Fondly remembers when TOTP was on every Thursday - Oh yes...
Fast forwards over a lot of the indie stuff on 'Later..with Jools Holland'- No, I watch most of it, when i watch it...
Thinks that Glastonbury is the highlight of the music calendar, but has bever been - never been, but not too fussed either way.
Woman Number 3!
Female
40
Wide variety of taste - most things except country - never, ever country.
Still buy CDs, at least 2/3 a month, as well as the (very rarely) a vinyl now and then. Download three or four songs a month, but never a whole album.
My precious vinyl was left in my friends Mum's attic for 'safekeeping' when I moved to the U.S. 15 years ago. I know I'll never see them again; she probably flogged them all at a car boot sale. I can't bear to think of all those 7" Smiths singles gone. *sob*
Have A.W.'s Back to Black on vinyl and CD. Will shortly be receiving Frank on vinyl, too. Also have simple Minds - New Gold Dream and Squeeze - Singles 45s and Under on both.
iTunes top ten singles? Oh, dear God, no. I live in the U.S. - so it's MUCH worse than the UK iTunes list. Charts? Um, no thanks. The U.S. charts are god-awful, although I do pay some attention to the British album charts.
I WISH I could go to gigs more than a handful of times a year. But none of the bands I want to see (mostly British, especially Elbow) ever come anywhere near where I live.
TOTP on Thursdays? I'll say! I remember Pan's People and Legs and Co. Ha Ha! Those were the days. My clearest memory is Sham 69 - Hurry up Harry. Brill!
Unable to watch Later over here. I catch the occasional performance on youtube, though.
Not a fan of drunk crowds, so festivals aren't my cup of tea. The smaller the gig the better. I did see Neil Young at an 800-seat venue last fall. Incredible. :-)
The results are in!
On the basis of this incredibly scientific poll, 4% of Word bloggers are women. Does this mean that women are not interested in blogs about 'hot lady bassists' and the like?
This one isn't
Other women may be... I can only speak for myself!
I'm not interested in conversations about hot anything of either sex... I'm just here for the music.
(although I will admit to having a major crush on John Flansburgh from They Might Be Giants).
PS Mr Wonderful, I second the poster who said you should keep your username. Most splendid.
Thankyou biscuit
I may call you biscuit, may I?
indeed you may
Only 36
Male - yep
In his 40s and 50s - nope, 36
Considers he has a catholic taste in music - yep, everything from Clapton, Zeppelin, The Fall to Iron Maiden, The Stranglers, SAHB, King Missile, Dylan, Neil Young
Still buys CDs - cutting down now. The disposable income has now disappeared.
Still has his vinyl collection - yes, have a healthy one stored at my folks all purchased in the late 80's. Only recently rediscovered the pleasure of searching record stores/charity shops for 2nd hand vinyl. Shame I havent got around to buying a turntable yet.
Has at least one album in more than one format (vinyl, CD and remastered download) - of course
Can't be doing with anything in the iTunes Top 10 singles - True
Only goes to gigs once or twice a year - almost. 2 gig's last year - Zeppelin & Springsteen. 4 this - Black Crowes, Springsteen, Quo and Stevie Wonder
Fondly remembers when TOTP was on every Thursday - yes
Fast forwards over a lot of the indie stuff on 'Later..with Jools Holland' - yes
Thinks that Glastonbury is the highlight of the music calendar, but has bever been - no
Clearly I'm a walking stereotype
I tick all the boxes I am afraid, here are a few more others may relate to
- only ever downloads whole albums
- always makes an audio cd "back up" of downloaded albums but not quite sure why
- deliberately avoids watching the latest TV "sensation"
- can't help explaining new music by comparing it with somone else "sounds like...."
Speaking personally
I'd have to answer to your additonal Word blogger attributes, No, No, Yes (is it me, or is anybody else fed up of hearing that 'The Wire' is the greatest TV show ever), Yes
Pretty close

Fondly remembers when TOTP was on every Thursday

Fast forwards over a lot of the indie stuff on 'Later..with Jools Holland' (Fast Forward over most of it!)
Thinks that Glastonbury is the highlight of the music calendar, but has bever been (Went once - 97)
A mixed bag
Male - Yes indeed.
In his 40s and 50s - Nope, I'm 37.
Considers he has a catholic taste in music - I like most things, apart from jazz, R&B, and rap.
Still buys CDs - always.
Still has his vinyl collection - I still own maybe five vinyl albums and about a dozen singles and 12" singles (oh how I miss those) bit I no longer own a turntable, so they're relegated to a cardboard box in the loft, or the back of my dad's shed.
Has at least one album in more than one format (vinyl, CD and remastered download) - Yes, mainly cassettes I've replaced with CDs.
Can't be doing with anything in the iTunes Top 10 singles - I can't abide iTunes so I wouldn't know what was in their top 10. I don't even know what's number 1 at the moment.
Only goes to gigs once or twice a year - No, I tend to go to around fifteen or so.
Fondly remembers when TOTP was on every Thursday - Sort of, but I remain fully aware that it was often full of dross even back then.
Fast forwards over a lot of the indie stuff on 'Later..with Jools Holland' - More often than not I forget it is on.
Thinks that Glastonbury is the highlight of the music calendar, but has bever been - Overrated waste of time and money in my opinion. Never been, nor will I ever go. Why does everyone at the front take a flag?
The Word Demographic
wrong wrong and wrong. I must be the exception that proves the rule. I'm 16, duno what catholic means but I've a fine taste in music and I can't stand the indie crap on Later...
Man? I feel like a woman
Male - No
In 40s and 50s - Yes
Considers has a catholic taste in music - probably
Still buys CDs - Yes
Still has his vinyl collection - Yes, but nothing to play it on!
Has at least one album in more than one format (vinyl, CD and remastered download) - Yes
Can't be doing with anything in the iTunes Top 10 singles - I'll say no, but only because I'm not a downloader
Only goes to gigs once or twice a year - No - about once or twice a month to something small/medium-sized
Fondly remembers when TOTP was on every Thursday - Yes
Fast forwards over a lot of the indie stuff on 'Later..with Jools Holland' - No TV. Mentally I fast-forward over too many things when they're happening in the real world; I don't suppose I'd make an exception for "indie" on JH. (I'm not sure if it was his general demeanour or interviewing technique, but Heath Leger's portrayal of the Joker reminded me a bit of Jools.)
Thinks that Glastonbury is the highlight of the music calendar, but has bever been. No and yes.
Dude looks like a lady
Female, 23, still buys cds, frowns like an old woman at radio1.
Likes a good discussion about hot female bassists as much as the next person, although not into ladies herself, give me a man on a double bass any day.
Still has and can play the 1990s mix tapes, not found on muxtape.
Owns a cd rack.
Went through a worrying phase of listening to boybands, but stopped sharpish in fear of being ostracised from the greater music community.
More worryingly spells her name like a Minogue sister.
Goes to more than one or two gigs a year.
Listens to too much blues.
Doesn't like other music magazines. Likes long walks on the beach and nights by the fire.
