The WORD CD

Does anyone else have problems getting the track names in iTunes? My CD is just showing tracks 1 - 15.

yes, me too

Hmmmm
I submitted them to Gracenote yesterday and I think Word Towers also do it. I gather they didn't appear immediately last month either.
Yep
We submit the data well before the CDs are shipped - we even use special software provided by Gracenote to do so, which is supposed to ensure that this kind of issue doesn't arise.
But we still get problems, which is very frustrating. Thanks for submitting the details again yourself - ideally you should never have to.
week delay
normally there is a delay of about 1 week before you can download the track names automatically. Last month they never came down at all & i manually added track names - pain in the bum!
You think you've got problems?
I put mine in my car 6x changer this morning and it just swallowed it up without trace. I ejected everything supposedly in it, and it allowed me to put another 6 in, and play them. Current Word CD is in there somewhere. I wonder if I'll ever see it again?
Has anyone in the Massive ever had to deal with this problem? It's an Audi A4 with the 6x CD in the glove compartment
I too had to manually enter the tracks
but what I really wanted to say is what a fantastic CD this month's is. Whereas I normally treat it as a way of introducing me to artists that I might not otherwise have heard, and if I like a couple of songs then it's a good one, the March 2010 is the reverse. There are probably only a couple of tracks that I don't like. I'd previously heard Clare and The Reasons great Genesis cover, but apart from them will probably be getting hold of more stuff by The Postmarks, The Rich Morton Project, The Features, Ali Farka Toure and Toumani Diabete, Diane Birch, and The Watson Twins.
But - is there a more overhyped and pointlessly overpraised artist than Charlotte Gainsbourg? Despite the presence of Neil Hannon, Jarvis Cocker and Air, 5.55 was pretty dreadful, and now it seems that she is squeezing the life out of Beck too if IRM is anything to go by.
Overall though, congratulations to whoever compiled this month's CD. If you had star ratings I'd probably give it a 5
Is it just me....
but along with the track name issues (several months now) I am also feeling a little sad that the usual 'interesting' artwork is also missing replaced with yet another cheap diy job. The magazine is now filling up with user generated content, published on thinner paper which gives it the feel of Rolling Stone (yes i miss the spine too, those quotes stare down at me from each issue since 2003 as I write). Enjoyable a read as it always is I wonder if all these costcutting measures will be reflected in a reduction in my yearly subscription rate. Somehow I doubt it - the inclusion of blog entries on how complex it is to get someone to draw a picture may be the first in many a smokescreen. And yes I know we were forewarned of these changes last month. A digital sub to Paste is looking very tempting at the moment.
In our defence...
The paper isn't thinner - it's the same stock as previously. And while we've introduced the Massive Attacks! section to feature content written by our readers, it hasn't been at the expense of the other written content, the amount of which has increased.
We'd love to fix the problems with Gracenote, but - as I mention in more detail further up the page - it is a Gracenote issue, not a Word Magazine one. We just happen to be the ones made to look stupid.
If it's any consolation
I had the same (well, not quite, but no track names) with the cd from M*j* last month. Other cds seem ok, though. I think the last 3 Word cds have been similarly affected. I can't pretend to understand why some cds are fine but others are not
Is manually entering the track names a big deal anyway?
I would hardly say that you look stupid by not having your track names on Gracenote. I regard having to enter the data manually as an indication that I still received my copy of the magazine nice and early. I generally confirm the artist/song title fields anyway to avoid getting the green star of correction from Last.FM.
Also, I must agree with The Amorous Hum... above that this particular compilation is probably going to result in several album purchases for me as the month goes on. Often it's one or two tracks that make me intrigued enough to go and look up an artist but it's most of the tracks on this one.
