The Wire series 5
I've watched all 4 previous seasons on DVD but am watching s5 on FX. I can't afford the US DVD version at present.
For those who watched it on DVD it's episode 10 of the 12 that I'm trying to avoid spoiling for any who have yet to have the pleasure, but if you have seen it you'll understand the major event I'm trying to talk about without talking about it.
How did you react? I was sitting thinking this is dangerous, but when it happened my jaw dropped. I felt quite devastated.

10 of 12?
Isn't there only ten episodes in series 5?
My mistake
I meant 8/10. The episode screened last Monday.
Yes only ten episodes.
But I think I can guess what you are referring to.
I too was gutted.
Gutted
and jaw dropped open.
I honestly thought he would see the series out but I suppose being out in daylight was not his normal modus operandi.
Never liked that foul mouthed little brat who did it either!
Aha
Episode 8? 'Clarifications'?
Yes. Oh yes.
Although I think what happened was signposted a little more than is usual for The Wire.
And
It being the final series, finally The Wire is honouring a televisual convention. As they say in Scream 3, all bets are off...
Should I start at series 1 or dive into the current series onFX?
Do I invest in the box sets and gorge for nights on end until I can catch up with the current series, or just start watching the current one and get the dvd's later. Wife will be involved too -and children may get neglected, so please respond carefully ;-)
You have to watch it in order
All the pieces matter.
I'd hold out for 3 months and get this:

Good call
That dvd box set is now on my xmas list!
Weird billing
One wonders what painful behind the scenes wrangling went on with actors' agents to end up with this billing order for the final five-season set:
Frankie Faison
Dominic West
Wood Harris
Dierdre Lovejoy
Aiden Gillen
Idris Elba
Wendell Pierce
Huh? Burrell top of the list and nary a mention of Omar, Prop Joe, Rawls, Freamon, Clay Davis, Levy or Landsman? I know that with ensemble pieces like this it's hard to say who the stars are, but isn't this a bit stranger than strange?
Just come across this....

A chat with David Simon and a few of the actors about the Wire, just downloaded it but not listened to it yet as need to watch the last 2/3 episodes of series 5...just in case there are a few spoilers on there.
