If you haven't seen it I would recommend it. Pegg and Frost are always amusing. Its not quite as genius as Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz, but its certainly not a waste of time.
Not sure where you live
Howabout "Benda Bilili"......it's only on restricted release at the moment so may be difficult to find.
Don't go and see Norwegian Wood
It's beyond slow.
But do go and see Archipelago. A hoot.
Black Swan
No idea if it's still on at the cinema, but it's what the big screen was made for I reckon. Not a masterpiece, in fact fairly ridiculous, but beyond entertaining. The most fun I've had in the cinema in years.
Or True Grit. A lot of traditional Western, surprisingly little Coen brothers, but very good all the same. Looks lovely on the big screen.
Avoid Gnomeo & Juliet unles you've got children with you...
I've Heard Good Things...
... about SUBMARINE.
Also, Woody Allen has a new film out called YOU WILL MEET A TALL DARK STRANGER.
Haven't seen either so don't shoot me if I've recommended badly!
Cheers Cyber Acquaintances
Much appreciated. I've just been told it's her choice, so all feedback is now only "advisory" to the final decision...
Igf you can...
...I'd echo Benda Bilili. It's a lovely, lovely film.
Animal Kingdom is also great, but not an easy watch and perhaps not a 'date night' film (although I wouldn't mind).
If you are in London or near an arts cinema, Les Diaboliques is on a re-release: a wonderful Hitchcockian thriller.
West is West.
Mrs. F and I saw this on Saturday. It's not going to win any prizes but it's very good and has some genuinely funny and touching moments. It's a good follow-up to East is East but you don't need to have seen that, although there are a few references, as it's a self-contained movie.
Submarine
Is indeed charming, witty and cineliterate. Nice performances, believable distillation of being a UK teenager in the 80's. Bit of a love story but unsentimental, possibly even a little cold. No stupid explosions or vampires. See it
The book is superb
Looking forward to catching the film at some point.
Also loved the book
and looking forward to the film
Another vote for Submarine.
Another vote for Submarine. Very droll, very imaginative filming and editing on a low budget. Great to see a funny and oddly touching at times British film which isn't heritage or Loach/Leigh.
Just back from seeing it.
Loved it. Terrific soundtrack too.
Went to the new Woody Allen film
As someone who numbers seeing "Annie Hall" as a 17 year old it's first cinematic release as one of the golden memories of my youth, it pains me to say this. Dreadful, truly truly dreadful.
Went to see
The Fighter yesterday and it is a very good film.
There is no filler and everything is driven along at a fair pace without compromising the characters.
Shame about the predictable 'montage' but highly recommended.
Much more about the people than showing the fights.
This week, it's my choice and were going to see "The Eagle"
Don't care if it's kack, it's got Romans, and swords and men fighting in it.
That'll do me this Thursday...
