The Who At The Superbowl

The worlds oldest, and best, punk rock group gave it some big licks in Miami on Sunday... Underehearsed? Possibly. Ragged? Definately. But they played with a vigour and edge that belied their age, and confirmed their status as the best live band of all time. No backing tapes or pre-recorded shit for them, unlike Spruce Springsteen last year. Raw glory!

Nothing pre-recorded?
Are you sure about that? It looked at times to me as if Daltrey was lip-syncing - at times badly. And anyway, haven't the band always used backing tapes? That synthesiser refrain from Baba O'Reilly...
It's the Superbowl. You have five minutes to erect a stage, get it out into the middle of a field, add a band, then broadcast the results to millions. I'm almost surprised that any of it is live.

I'm a big Who fan ...
but I thought it was appalling.
1. It's not The Who, it's Pete and Rog and others.
2. A 3 year old could have guessed that setlist. Totally unimaginative.
3. Sound was awful.
4. Vocals were terrible.
I thought they were good
Given only 15 minutes, they were never going to play any obscure b-sides or album tracks. Yes, the vocals were a bit rough but at least they weren't miming. Thought the light show was fantastic.
At least when they only play 15 minutes (c.f. Live8) there's no chance of them playing any of the noodly and (frankly) wanky nonsense that Pete Townsend likes to indulge in!
