The voice of the the Red Hanky Ad
Posted by BigJimBob on 27 October 2011 - 10:08am.
This ad is everywhere - including Spotify - and the voice has been annoying me. It was so familiar, then I clicked, it is this guy:
I completely forgotten about him - but as soon as I made the connection I was back watching that bloody clock on Playschool - younger viewers think Playbus, even younger viewers think Tikkabilla. Gosh, isn't it amazing how evocative just the sound of a voice can be?

How could you forget Derek Griffiths?
He's a national treasure.
He is
can't argue with that. Glad he's still finding work too!
He certainly is.
I've booked him to do voiceovers before. Happily, he's as lovely as you'd imagine him to be; I even got a bit wibbly in his presence. A fine man.
Thats the Giffster!
Of course Derek Griffiths. Still much in demand as a voice over artist today. Wrote the theme tune to 'Bod' and the wonderful !Heads n Tails'

Heads N Tails
I still sing "Dog A Long" to myself whilst out with the pooch
"Dog a Long"?
Be careful where you sing that.
I've got that album
It's fantastic. Cracking cover too
I now want that album
heard him interviewed on the radio a while back and he still writes songs and jingles.
Of course Jolean has met Fred 'Playschool \ Chock a Block \ Micro Live' Harris which is also cool as fuck.
Griffiths and Fred Harris mentioned so close together... blub...
... do you want to see a grown man cry? Why not throw in Floella and Brian Cant and Oliver Postgate if you want to send me over the edge?
Sometimes I think I love these people more than I love my own family...
I
WANT
TO
BE
FIVE!
I had dinner with Fred Harris in the 90s
and have worked on awards with Floella. She doesn't look her age by a long way.
I've met Emily
off of Bagpuss WITH BAGPUSS.
That was a day I can tell you. I was giggly, shy, nearly peed my pants and couldn't stop look at her pussy...cat.
37 years old I was

What happened to this stalwart of the early Playschool era? (yes I know TMFTL):
Incidentally, can you imagine a kids program being presented by someone of this look now?
A bit later
Jeez, a bit of Googling and I found he wrote this song!
which of course was a the theme tune to a bit of a classic Play for Today
Note to self: "get back to work"
The Anti-Nick Drake
He's the exact opposite of Nick Drake.
