The sound of young Islington.

In these 'media saturated' times with so many ways to entertain ourselves isn't it fantastic that something as simple as a few musos sitting around having a natter can be one of the highlights of our week.

I can usually be found listening to the Word Podcast while doing the weekly shopping at the local Tesco's. Yes, I probably look a little bit mad wandering around filling my trolley with a big grin on my face and an occassional guffaw but it lights up my week anyway.

I was getting worried about the nay-sayers giving out about Mark Ellen's laugh thinking that he would be told to tone it down!! Heaven forfend!! There's nothing like an infectious laugh to set you off really - in fact an entire podcast of just Mark Ellen laughing would be entertaining enough in itself!

The sound of young Islington always cheers me up too, although I'm begining to suspect that Matt Hall has a button marked 'sirens' beside him that he presses at random during the recording of the podcast. A podcast without it just wouldn't be the same at this stage.

Anyway - as I've been off the scene for a while (having a young baby etc etc) and am just catching up on the magazines and the podcasts I just wanted to say how much I still enjoy it all. Thanks for that!

Very kind of you

The Mark Ellen laughs and laughs and laughs podcast will be in the works as soon as possible.

As far as I know it's gone

As far as I know it's gone without comment, but one of the reasons the sound of young Islington is such a regular feature, must be because the Word office is just round the corner from one of the larger nicks in North London.

i'm sat in Islington now

and I can tell you, those sirens very rarely take a break...

Rob Fitzpatrick | 14 July 2008 - 4:50pm

I've taking to saying

"the sound of young Islington" whenever I hear sirens now, regardless of the fact that I may happen to be wondering the streets of Manchester at the time.

Ditto

I do exactly the same. That reminds me of the Eric Morcambe gag when he heard a police/ambulance siren "He'll never sell any ice-cream going at that speed". Classic.

Der, Der, Der, Der.

I am sometimes guest of a hotel just round the corner of The Angel tube station and a sometimes (old) student at an ex-HMRC building just above said station.

My incredibly drab lectures on VAT or double entry bookkeeping are often interupted by the 'sound of young Islington'. Whenever I hear it I think of Mr's Hepworth, Ellen, Fitzpatrick, Hall, Harrison, and ocassionally Ms Mossman and smile to myself.

Has no one used this golden

Has no one used this golden opertunity to use 'the sound of young Islington' as a bandname?
1) it's a pretty good name,
2) you get a plug every week on the word podcast[
