The slaughter of a classic song

With talk of shite sit-coms (Hi-De-Hi included) I was reminded of Paul Shane's "original" take of "You've Lost That Loving Feeling". For those of you unlucky enough never to have seen it here it is......

Good find, but. . .

is it really that much worse than, say, 98% of the last 35 years of Joe Cocker's career?

And to think....

he seriously thought this is what 'his public wanted'

Commoner | 11 July 2008 - 8:50am

It sounds like...

Vic Reeves' pub singer has swallowed Joe Cocker.

Patrick Crowther | 11 July 2008 - 8:34am

Is that

a copyright claim do you think? Could Vic cash in on the royalties? Got to be enough for a packet of crisps in it for him?

Commoner | 11 July 2008 - 8:52am

You never cloace your ice. . .

It's the Neilster! With Dolly Parton! Oh yes. (Note the acute voiced alveolar fricative issues on display here.)

And if you think that was bad, it's time to run away screaming from Mr. Wayne Osmond:

Archie Valparaiso | 11 July 2008 - 9:38am

Please do not insult Stuart Staples so....

As any fule kno, he has sole claim to the Pub singer soubriquet.
I had forgotten that truly truly dire performance by Paul Shane. Almost enough to forgive Chris Farlowe for his far less serious sins against tonsils.

Careful

You're tempting me to post their entire discography.

Maybe not slaughtered but surely insulted?

Would Tom have fallen for this?

Commoner | 11 July 2008 - 10:14am

God yeah...

...that Paul Shane performance is just AWFUL but yet hilarious at the same time. I first saw it one of those 'worst ever TV moments' shows.

Joe Cocker's last album 'Hymn For My Soul' was surprisingly decent, I thought.

So bad...it's good!

That has always been my motto. Paul Shane? Fab. It would fit into my record collection perfick. Here's another...

So lets get this straight

a racist, self opinionated, ridiculed and loathed Manchester entertainer......(you all know where this is going I hope).....

Leedsboy | 11 July 2008 - 1:52pm

Court

if recent events are any indicator... ;-)

FraserM | 11 July 2008 - 2:14pm

Mind you

I'd get to meet one of my heroes.

Leedsboy | 11 July 2008 - 2:20pm

The real pity is

that the Paul Shane clip was so short.

If I remember rightly his performance got even worse, reaching a peak with the "baby, baby" bit which was funnier than every episode of Hi-de-hi combined. (I know. Not a difficult thing to achieve)

Skuds | 11 July 2008 - 2:19pm

I saw that Paul Shane atrocity live...

...by which I mean live on TV and not that I was in the audience at Pebble Mill.

I see to recall seeing it when I was home for lunch from school one day and just sitting there open-mouthed through the whole thing (which doesn't get any better). I think I'm right in saying that those two female backing singers don't make another sound after their one "Baby" - which is just as well, given their lack of tune.

Vic and Bob actually used a short clip of this in one epiusode of Shooting Stars, so the club singer comparisons are spot on.

In fact, a cursory search of Youtube reveals...

...this (warning: includes the "Baby Baby!" referenced above!)
