The Seduction of Ingmar Bergman - Sparks

Martin Simmonds's picture

Does anyone know if the version of "The Seduction of Ingmar Bergman" currently on ITunes is in English? I've read a few reviews which suggest that there is a sweedish version doing the rounds. The info on ITunes isn't very clear.
Also, if you've heard it, is it any good?

for another four days.

It was on Stuart Maconie's Freak Zone on 6Music on Sunday.

I haven't heard it either, though...

David Quantick

David Quantick gives it a great review in this month's magazine:
"Musically 'Seduction' is awe-inspiring in the way the Maels perfectly meld their current style - intense repetitive beats and melodies and caustic snappy lyrics - with the demands of an actual musical."

Can't wait to hear it.

Freak Zone

Heard the show on Sunday, all in English! Well worth a listen and included an in depth interview with Ron and Russell by Stuart afterwards.
Highly recommended to the massive.

The original is Swedish

But a lot of the original version has a lot of Swedish in it and it's much much harder work to listen to.

iTunes clarification

Hi Martin

Both the English and the original Swedish radio version are available on iTunes

The titles of each version should be clear

The English version is:
Sparks
The Seduction of Ingmar Bergman (English Version)

http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?id=336339389...

The Swedish version is:
Sparks
The Seduction of Ingmar Bergman (Swedish Radio Broadcast Version)

http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?id=336343663...

Hope that helps

Sue

If only I'd have spotted your reply before purchasing!

Hi Sue.
Guess who ended up with a sweedish version!
In my defence the 30 second preview clip is actually in English.

I have to say that the English version didn't come up on my search (under sparks). Your link took me straight to it.
I'll appeal to the better nature of I Tunes to see if I can have the English version.

Thanks Again

Martin

Both versions

Both versions are on iTunes. It's an interesting album but I don't think I'll be listening to it many times - It'll be good to see if they try to perform it "live" but I got the impression from the interview that they won't be.

The Seduction of Ingmar Bergman

This is the best album I've heard in over 20 years. After the first playing, typical Sparks fans may be a bit disappointed. Stick with it though! After a few playings it simply grows on you. After I bought Balls (2000), Li'l Beethoven (2002), Hello Young Lovers (2006) and Exotic Creatures of the Deep (2008), I didn't think that these albums could be surpassed. How wrong I was. Although very different from previous albums, the Sparks sound is still there. Absolutely brilliant.

Having heard the Swedish version, then the English version on Radio 6, I much prefer the Swedish version. The track "Oh My God" is much more powerful when sung in Swedish.
