The pragmatic side to the Stone Roses reformation

Chimney Singing Cheryl Cole's picture

Shaun Ryder gives it to us straight

Speaking in The Sun today (May 26), Ryder said he believed a reunion was definitely on the cards. He said: "I think it'll happen, I really do. There is more of a chance now than ever of them getting back together. Ian [Brown]'s just split with his missus and I bet she's hit him for a few quid.”

Was there ever any other reason for getting the old band back

together?

If no-one needs the money, reunions don't happen in public - they happen at weddings, funerals and 60th birthdays.

Ker-ching

I can't say I'd blame a band that reformed for financial reasons. If I could go and do a few gigs and rake in a million quid, I'd do it.

I think a reformed Stone Roses could really work.

They could pull in the punters no problem. The music hasn't dated, I haven't spotted Reni recently but they still look good. Definately unfinished business there as well.

John Squire has made his position very clear though.

It'd work

It'd be succesful in the business sense, and giving the fans a good night out, but I doubt they'd come up with any decent new material.

The rot had already set in before they'd even split.

Ian Brown's split with his missus...

Rumour has it that she could finally stand no more of his singing in the shower.

Singing In The Shower?

Was that cos he couldn't carry a tune in a bucket?

Don't hold your breath

Squire and Wren - two major obstacles. Has to be all four and nothing but all four.

Sod 'em

Get Ibrahim, Maddix and Ipinson in. Recreate the classic Reading set.

Hmmm.

The Squire/Brown/Mani/Maddix line-up that played gigs in '95 went down a storm, didn't they?

Enjoyable but...

...wasn't the same.

As a huge Roses fan

please no. As for the source...The Sun again? They stepped over the line exploiting a family funeral just the other week.

Enough please.

Sorry

Didn't mean to give the wrong impression everyone!

The reason I put it up was I thought Shaun Ryder's down to earth view on it was funny, not that I think it would actually happen

Saw them twice,

One of the worst live bands ever. Truly awful, and I love the recorded output dearly.

I saw them twice too.

First time one of the best gigs I've ever seen with the official line-up. Second time was one of the worst -Reading.
Thing is, just because they grew to represent the Oasis wing of pop, people lump them in with the neanderthal wing. The four members aren't like that. Always struck me as intelligent and forward thinking, though drugs obviously ground them down.
