The Olympics: Not For Everyone
The Olympics have been great. I don't believe I've ever seen a field destroyed in the manner in which Usain Bolt won the 100m, slowing down with 20 metres to go and showboating as he crossed the line, or the frankly miraculous way in which Michael Plelps won the 100m butterfly in the last few inches to claim the seventh of his eight gold medals. Brilliant stuff.
Still, I realise it's not for everyone.

British triumph!
We may get a bit cynical about the Olympics, well about most things probably, but I for one definitely feel proud about our country's efforts this time round. Stop press! GB medal in men's gymnastics - unbelievable!
Ouch
and again ouch!
It's about the money
I don't think Bolt was showboating. He doesn't earn anything for breaking a world record at the Olympics. He can probably earn a fortune for breaking it at a Grand Prix event in a few weeks. Had he kept his speed up it would be much harder to break the record at such an event. He knew he had the race sewn up; he was so far ahead he knew it was probably a world record even if he couldn't see the clock. So, slow down and make that money more easily.
2.25-ish in
I loved the guy doing the wooden horse leap and landing in the judges. Very funny!
On hols
Managed to miss the whole thing by being on holiday (still am - calling in from internet cafe in central France).......has it finished? Oh goody. Just such a shame we had to win it and waste a fortune for the next one. Almost worth it for the look on Chirac's visage when we won though.
