The MTV Vampires & The MTV VMA's 2008
I know its not the bag of many of you on The Word Blog but I recorded this over the weekend and watched it (with lots of Fast Forwarding) last night.
What struck me is that MTV have sucked the life out of Rock and Roll/RnB and all we are left with is The Jonas Brothers, Britney Spears and Promise Rings.
For those that didn't see it, it was one of the most insipid pieces of music television I ever had the misfortune to watch.
It actually made The Brits look edgy. The cartoon rock rebellion portrayed was laughable. (Mind you that probably always been the case).
Then today I walked into Zavvi at lunchtime and they were playing Cape Canaveral off the new album by Conor Oberst (he of Bright Eyes). Although I have a couple of Bright Eyes albums I didn't bother with this for some reason. But it was beautiful and edgy.
But you wont see him on any MTV awards (probably because his ballsack is still fully intact).
And you have bands like The Shins and Death Cab for Cutie who have that certain something but will never be at home at this kind of Gig because they don't have the ear of Paris Hilton or that cohort.
And for the record Russell Brand (no great favourite of mine ) did offer up something different and I thought he was quite good actually.
MTV proof that you can actually suck the lifeblood out of music!
For the record this is the Conor Oberst track mentioned above, in a live setting (naturally). Give it a listen. I think you'll find it rather good.

I wouldn't have thought it is breaking news...
that MTV is sucking the life out of rock n' roll... it's been doing that since its inception, with great success.
Yeah But...........
What did you think of Conor Oberst?
I thought this was very good.
Don't know anything about the old chap but it seems top drawer to me. I shall investigate this further. Cheers Springer.
Not breaking news maybe
But a good reason to discuss why there is alot of toilet out there.
And he is right about Conor Oberst.
No shit...
Sherlock!
it's game over, don't watch music on the telly
you will feel better
That was the Point
but a wee bit of generalisation there don't you think Mr.Blast?
There is quiet a lot of good music on the telly. I was just covering MTV and the like. Maybe you were too!
Conor Oberst
My compliments Mr Springer
I take my hat off to you. I didn't bother with his album either but that is just a superb track. I'm off to Amazon as we speak.
Terrific stuff.
