What happens when someone with plenty of time on their hands takes a bunch of solo musicians jamming to themselves on YouTube, and manufactures a funk band.

I hope it's for real - started to look and listen carefully then lost it. An ad agency should snap that up for a beer commercial - would be fab in the cinema.
Bad writers borrow
What they'll likely do is pinch the idea and then not give any credit to the person who did the original.
There many cases where that has happened in the past.
Kutiman
The same guy has done loads of similar things - he's called Kutiman. I suspect that this one is going to go nuclear over the next week. I also agree that it will get ripped off by advertisers very quickly.
