The Last Carnival.

I blog on here quite a lot about Springsteen and I make no apologies for that. Listening to his new album I have been move to tears listening to the The Last Carnival which is his tribute to Danny Federici. If you have any feelings for the E Street Band give it a listen, its quite simply one of the most moving songs I've ever heard. Danny's son Jason plays on the track. His dad would be proud.

The album is a 'grower'.....
Just like Magic was, with a few clunkers on first listen, but I'm sure that may change.
Wish I hadnt heard that 'Outlaw Pete's refrain resembles 'I Was Made For Loving You' by Kiss. Cant get that bloody one out of my head now.
European and US tour dates out now, with no British shows yet (only strong rumours of Glastonbury and Hyde Park Wireless festival,so far - which seems bizarre).I heard he will mainly avoid the same cities as the last tour.
Time for a 3rd vist to St James' Park.
It is, isn't it?
When I first heard it I thought it was a really dreadful record, and easily the worst thing he'd done in years. Now I've lived with it for a month or so I can't stop playing it, and in my house it's our favourite E Street album since "Born To Run".
That only means, of course, that it's the one that strikes the most chords with us but they're great chords all the same...
It takes a while for the detail & the intent to seep in I think & to adjust to the fact that it doesn't really sound like "The E Street Band"; if you'll forgive the clunky name dropping, Bruce told me it's a record that he thinks you need to listen to a dozen or so times before it begins to make sense.
There's some fabulous playing on there too, particularly from Max Weinberg & Garry Tallent and the instrumental break on "Surprise Surprise" is a real chills down the neck job, especially when you hear Bruce playing a single note against the string arrangement like some demented cross between the (Yard)Byrds & Phil Spector ; I think I'll go & put it on again actually!
As Mick always tells me:
"Never namedrop but if you must, bring out 'clunky' – not that Charlie ever listens. Awright!"
Thank God for that...
I thought it was just me thinking it was an irredeemably p*ss poor effort comprised of floor scrapings from the last sessions...
I'll go and have another few listens and see if it does anything for me, cos I really did think it was a major clanger. I'm still not convinced, mind you...
As for UK shows, with both Bruce & Neil rumoured for Glastonbury, I'm gutted I'll miss my two favouites this time around, but you couldn't give me a ticket to that hellhole these days...
