The Itunes Shuffle Game!
This is quite a fun way to find out about other's music collections, as well as perhaps stimulating some discussion. Basically, you post ten random songs from your itunes library (or any other media player), and the next poster will give the selection a rating out of ten and maybe leave a little comment before posting their own list. You repeat this ad infiitum. This might not catch on but it's worth a go. No cheating!
Here's mine:
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - First Flash of Freedom
Metric - Blindness
Bright Eyes - Firewall
The Saw Doctors - Tuam Beat
A Tribe Called Quest - Verses From The Abstract
Charles Mingus - Pithecanthropus Erectus
Flo Sandon - Non Dimenticar
Belle & Sebastian - The State I Am In
The Police - Hungry For You
Girls Aloud - The Loving Kind
- More from styrofoam plates.
- Login or register to post comments

OK, I'll play
Not sure about the marks out of ten...I have only heard one of your tracks as far as I know ( the Police ), but thumbs up for Mingus, A Tribe... and Tom Petty. Bright Eyes and Belle & Sebastian gets a shrug, can be hit or miss. Hm, 5/10 ?
Here's the peculiar list that came up on my shuffle:
Mandjou - Salif Keita
Language Is A Virus - Laurie Anderson
Two Of Us - John Grant ( yes, the Beatles song )
Torment - Marc & the Mambas
Electric Avenue - Eddie Grant
Cry When You Get Older - Robyn
Love Bug - Marcy Playground
Babylon - Pauline
Da Hype - Junior Jack feat. Robert Smith
Beautiful Child - Rufus Wainwright
Solid on the credibility
But lacking somewhat in the cheese that is needed in an all round diet.
Let's say 7/10 (Plus marks for Junior Jack and Rufus. Minus for lack of nonsense and for Marcy Playground. :D)
Here's mine:
The Stars Shine In The Sky Tonight - Eels
Suburban Homeboy (Extended "Ron Speaks" Version) - Sparks
Susan (feat. Stephen Pickup) -Mark Knight
Tricks Of The Trade - Mew
Baltrinque (Henrik Schwarz & Dixon Version) - Château Flight
First Day Of My Life - Bright Eyes
Give It Up - K.C. & The Sunshine Band
I'm Gone - Dolly Parton
Prime Mover - Zodiac Mindwarp & The Love Reaction
That's The Kind Of Love I've Got For You (Disco 3000 Edit) - Dusty Springfield
Make of that what you will. It's far too late and I'm a tad too tipsy to engage in any 'engineering'.
Wouldn't dream
Wouldn't dream of marking someone else's musical tastes.
Here's the batch of pretty mainstream stuff that my iPod threw out tonight:
To The Sky - Maps
Strange Religion- Mark Lanegan
We Rule The School- Belle & Sebastian
Villiers Terrace [The Life At Brian's Sessions version] - Echo & The Bunnymen
Talk Talk - Talk Talk
No One Knows - Queens Of The Stone Age
Mushroom [live 1986] - The Jesus & Mary Chain
Rue The Day - The Wonderstuff
Seeing Out The Angel - Simple Minds
It Says Here - Billy Bragg
Come now
Let's not be shy/coy/unwilling to do what the OP bids us - otherwise, you have killed the point of the thread and we're back to nice lists of random songs from our collections.
i.e.
VALIDATE ME!
Consider your self validated!
5/10.
Starts strongly, before diving into stuff I have to confess to not knowing and then a final flourish.
Hope you feel better now? :-)
Oh thank god. I can breathe
Oh thank god. I can breathe again now.
And sulk.
;)
Here's My Ten
Lover's Jamboree-Nick Lowe
Idiot Wind-Bob Dylan
Too High-Stevie Wonder
Cantor de Mambo-Os Mutantes
Travelin Prayer-Billy Joel
Surf's Up-Brian Wilson
Why -The Byrds
John Walker's Blues-Steve Earle
We Let The Stars Go-Prefab Sprout
Kiss- Prince
As for Red Umpires list I will give it a solid 7 out of ten mainly because I don't know all the songs, love the Billy Bragg, Talk Talk and Queens Of The Stone Age tracks
Shuffle
Also see David Hepworth's randomizer, please see the small print on the Word site rules and regulations for further information!
Mr Radio-We Let The Stars Go is one of my favourite Christmas sounding songs, that's not about Christmas!
For mrRadio, I offer
A consistent 7/10. Lost points for Dylan and Lowe but otherwise a solid collection that I would take pleasure in listening to.
A truly random selection from me - proper Apple random in that one artist turns up twice...
Do What You Do-Katharine McPhee
Dazed And Confused-Led Zeppelin
Life's What You Make It-Miley Cyrus
I Know But I Don't Know-Blondie
The Judges Daughter-Green Day
How Do You Do-Natasha Bedingfield
No Cheap Thrill -Suzanne Vega
Kashmir-Led Zeppelin
96 Tears-Stranglers
Dear Vince
Seeing as you have been missed on the marking frenzy, I thought I would give you my two-penn'orth. Then I realised I was the wrong person to do this as I am a Led Zep denier, and haven't heard the Green Day or Vega or McPhee tracks. But you get big points for 96 tears and Blondie, which are unfortunately rendered redundant by the presence of Miley whatsit.
That gives you... *scribbles frantically, stabs at fingers* a C+ out of 10.
I give you...
I Want To Be The Boy Who Warms Your Mother's Heart - The White Stripes
Come On Little Mama - Ray Harris
Small Children In The Playground - Mogwai
Kick Out The Jams - MC5
Strong Boy - Gram Parsons & The International Submarine Band
Sweet Surprise- Chris & Cosey
Bourgie Bourgie- Gladys Knight & The Pips
Obsession- Animotion
Surfin' U.S.A. - The Beach Boys
Mama, Get Your Hammer - Bobby Peterson Quintet
With the exception of Animotion's Obsession it's all a bit "too cool for christmas" I think. I do listen to cheesy stuff as well. Good selection mind.
I give ganglesprocket's list
3/10. That sounds harsh, but I've only actually heard 3 of the songs, all of which are ruddy marvellous (White Stripes, MC5 and Beach Boys) so can't comment on the others. So, I'll revise my score - it's somewhere between 3 and 10 out of 10.
At the pain of being kicked off the blog for participating in a randomiser thread not started by Mr Hepworth, I'll put my 10 down:
God Help the Girl - I'll Have to Dance with Cassie
Ben Folds & Nick Hornby - Levi Johnston's Blues
Lambchop - Sunrise
The Doors - The Crystal Ship
Janelle Monáe - Make the Bus (featuring Of Montreal)
Lambchop - I Can Hardly Spell My Name
Dogs Die In Hot Cars - Lounger
Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip - Thou Shalt Always Kill
Belle and Sebastian - The Gate
The Faces - Stay With Me
I think I've only heard...
... about seven of mine to be fair.
In my judgement...
Joe R, having never met you, you are kind, liberal and very pleasant company. You have a good intellect but you have a whiff of adventurousness, enjoying the occasional flirt with danger. You have solid roots, know what you like but you are willing to try something new. Your dancing days are behind you but you like an occasional jump around to demonstrate you aren't past it. I'd say you are a Capricorn. 8/10
Leonard Cohen - Coming Back To You
Doves - The Last Broadcast
Frank Sinatra & Antonia Carlos Jochim - The Girl From Ipanema
Missy Elliott - Can You Hear Me
Joe Higgs - Wake Up And Live
Bo Diddley - Bo Diddley
Led Zeppelin - The Rain Song
Louis Armstrong's Hot Five - Once In A While
Suede - Electricity
The Velevet Underground - I'll Be Your Mirror
Bit disappointed with mine. Reek of being old.
Sorry to disappoint
I'm actually a stupid, cold-hearted bastard whom everyone hates. I've no idea what I like yet am completely unwilling to try anything new whatsoever. I'm completely past it in every sense of the word yet I've just started dancing lessons.
I'm also a Leo.
Just goes to show
never trust an iPod randomiser.
However..
if you aren't willing to try anything new, what's with Janelle & dancing lessons? I suppose you could argue Janelle is old school, despite her youth.
I forgot to mention
I'm also a compulsive liar.
I just knew
you were a Capricorn
I would like to play, but
I would like to play, but this morning my i-phone fell in the loo. I am now trying to save it in a large jar of risotto rice (uncooked of course)and will check if its 'saved' in three days time. However, most days I play a very similar game during my thirty minute morning run. The i-pod is on shuffle and the only rule is 'no fast forwarding of any kind'. Yesterday I started with 'Teardrops' by Womack and Womack, then got 'What Kind of Fool Am I' from Anthony Newley, followed by 'Man-Erg' by Van Der Graaf Generator. The only problem is that occasionally I get i-player downloads of 'Desert Island Discs' and the Arsenal podcast. I find speech has a more debilitating effect on my running rhythm than anything else....
Be kind
Swingtown/Steve Miller Band
Tom Traubert's Blues/Rod Stewart
The Living Years/Mike + The Mechanics
River Song/The Sallyangie
When We Were Young/Bucks Fizz
You Baby/The Turtles
Rocket Man/Elton John
Little Bitty King Of The Road/The Captivations
Song To The Siren/The Czars (off a Word CD!)
Hiroshima Mon Amour/Ultravox
Hmmm... a mixed bag. The Sallyangie come up ALL the time on shuffle for some reason. Oh look! Bucks Fizz! Love that faux-German thing they've got going on there.
Play the game, 5C
and score my dull ten. If you post a list, you are meant to comment on the previous one.
Sorry Tiggerlion!
Well now, I can see your disappointment but there are some gems like The Velvet Underground, Sinatra and Leonard Cohen. Not much else doing it for me there though, so all things considered:
5/10
Cruel
but fair. Thanks
A list
Five- Centres I'll give your list a solid 5/10 based on the tracks I've heard before
Distant Sun - Crowded House
What is and what should never be - Led Zeppelin
Lets go to San Francisco - The flowerpot men
Fake empire - The National
Take it back - Barenaked ladies
Silver star - The four seasons
Procession - New Order
Melodies haunt you - Dodgy
Fairy tale lullaby - Bombay bicycle club
I don't want to set the world on fire - The Ink spots
nul points
No marks for me, I feel like Norway in the Massive's very own Eurovision.
I have heard a grand total of one of those.
Genuinely judgement cannot be passed.
I only know...
...Tom Traubert's Blues, The Living Years, Rocket Man and Song To The Siren of yours, F-C. So extrapolating from that (I like 3 out of the four), you get 7.5 out of 10.
Here's mine:
Crash - The Primitives
Lady Madonna - HJH
Bring It On - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Which Side Are You On - Billy Bragg
Hats off To (Roy) Harper - Led Zeppelin
I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday - Wizzard
Howlin' For You (Live) - The Black Keys
A New England - Billy Bragg
Margin Walker - Fugazi
Cash On The Barrelhead/Hickory Wind - Gram Parsons
Hmm. Again, a little too cool for school. I'd not give that high marks. All a bit too wholemeal. Bonus points for Wizzard, I suppose.
Boo hoo.
No marks?
I give you six out of ten
You gain easy points and kudos for The Primitives, Wizzard, Gram Parsons and Fugazi. Nick Cave and the Beatles are never a bad thing. But two Billy Braggs on random? From the massive's POP evangelist? Given that Kirsty MacColl covered one of them this isn't wholly bad, BUT I EXEPCT BETTER FROM YOU. You lose valuable points for possibly the worst song that Led Zeppelin ever did and as for those Black Keys? Always sounded a tad worthy and dull to me. But overall, it's a pass.
*hangs head*
I know. I know.
If it'd been Heartbreaker or Custard Pie, I'd have been OK with Zeppelin. but Hats Off? Yuck.
Just goes to show, though: truly random. In a 15,000 song library, I get two Braggs! I do like him, though.
I wonder what'd happen if I just pressed "Refresh".... Ah:
Still Ill - The Smiths
Dust Of Ages - Eels
Planet Telex (live) - Radiohead
I'll Be Your Man - Anna Calvi
Aluminum - The White Stripes
Vogue - Madonna
Brianstorm - Artic Monkeys
Gunshy - Liz Phair
Teenage Angst - Place Bo
X-Static - Foo Fighters.
Hmm. No better. Possibly worse. What can I say? Much of my record collection dates from my insistence on buying music I thought I ought to own.
OK, brace yourself
There are 4 songs I've never heard in your list, 5C, including the Czars, even though it's also on my iphone. Only demerit would be the Rod Stewart; bonus points for Hiroshima Mon Amour, let's call it a 7.
Here are mine, in real time:
Zingaro - Rene Aubry
Do I Need You - Ann Peebles
Chain Gang - Sam Cooke
Daydreaming - Aretha Franklin
No One Takes You Home - Kathryn Williams
Ruby Blue - Roisin Murphy
Falling Stars - Sarah Siskind
Birds In Your Garden - Pulp
The Last Cigarette - Ed Harcourt
Jacobite Bebop - Martyn Bennett
I dunno Rosbif...
only heard 2, but some top names, so maybe 5/10?
At the Chime of a city clock - NIck Drake
Willin - Little Feat
Kiss that Frog - Peter Gabriel
Salaman - Toumani Diabate and Battake Sissoko
A'Machair - Iona
Black Cow - Steely Dan
Amelia - Joni Mitchell
Strawberry Swing - Coldplay
The Girl is Mine - Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney
These emotions will move you son - This Diminishing West
The last is from a playlist of my son's, a bit obscure but not bad, grungy rock
All the way from sunny Sale
Oh dear, I only know the Jacko/Macca track Mr J Hawk. Which I don`t like, so er 0/10 with a potential 9/10............
Mine to be shot down
Downtown - Petula Clark
Feels like heaven - Fiction Factory
Thin line between love and hate - Pretenders
Bling - Killers
Honeymoon with B Troop - 10cc
Let down - Radiohead
Sunset - Kate Bush
Panic in Detroit - David Bowie
I sleep alone - Richard Hawley
Fripp - Catherine Wheel
Wot, no Black and White?
Well..
Some music you need to get into! Pet Clark is a personal fave, and I like quite a few of the others, especially Kate, so 7/10
Thank you for you generous mark!
I`ve been feeling mean all afternoon after my nul points so will do some investigating....I might actually have that Coldplay track honest. And I like the Jayhawks too......
You're in luck, Jayhawk
..as I am one of the few people on this site who likes both Coldplay and the Jacko/Macca track. Not familiar with quite a few of the others, though generally approve of them all. A solid 8 from me, for what it's worth.
Here's my motley selection:
Pushing the senses, Feeder
As you are, Travis
Pavlov’s Bell, Aimee Mann
Everyday, Cinematic Orchestra
This is Love, PJ Harvey
Black minor, Arcade Fire,
Moroccan People’s Revolutionary Bowls Club, Blur
Potter’s Wheel, Josh Ritter
When love breaks down, Prefab Sprout
Round the universe, Seahorses
Not too bad really, and relatively representative.
Nada
Must be something to do with Travis. Or Coldplay. Or those pesky Seahorses.
Clarification please
How does this work exactly? Does one just pick any ten songs from the iPod and list them here, or is it the first ten to play when the iPod is on shuffle?
If it's the former, surely the temptation is there to pick 10 cool toons in order to impress?
I Think It's Meant To Be A Random Selection
So No Cherry Picking
well...here goes
Salmon Song (Live) - Steve Hillage
They Also Mourn Who Do Not wear Black - Sufjan Stevens
Tokyo Storm Warning - Elvis Costello
Susan vs Youth Club - The Fall
A Perfect Day Elise - PJ Harvey
Gobblegigook - Sigur Ros
The Ties That Bind - Bruce Springsteen
Honky Tonk Woman - Humble Pie
Survival - Yes
You Make Loving Fun - Fleetwood Mac
Yeah. Not bad. Pretty representative but oddly no Morrison, Young or Caravan given that I have everything those three have ever done.
There was nothing that said you couldn't have a second go
so, cradlerock, I've only heard 2 of those songs (Fleetwood Mac and Peej), so there's 2 marks straight away. Minus points for The Fall, Brooce and Yes in my book, and have you made that Sigur Ros song title up? Anyway, a solid 7/10 I reckon.
After a morning listening to Yo La Tengo and Rilo Kiley, my mp3 player on shuffle is giving me:
Manic Street Preachers - Die in the Summertime
Ryan Adams - My Blue Manhattan
Alphawezen - Into the Stars (Firebirds Remix)
Clinic - Baby
Belle and Sebastian - The State I Am In
The XX - Heart Skipped a Beat
Feist - So Sorry
Graham Coxon - Freakin' Out
Easyworld - Bleach
The Go! Team - Huddle Formation
I stand by my previous assessment
Look! XX, the Clinic, The Go! Team all fresh and young and new(ish). I can just picture you practising those dance moves to Huddle Formation. And there is the sensitive side represented by Feist & Belle & Sebastion. A touch of crazy adventure from Graham Coxon and Alphawezen. Plus, some old standbys from the Preachers & Ryan Adams.
What can I say?
You've got me band to rights; you know me better than I know myself.
PS Clinic have been around for years, haven't they?
Still incredibly young
in my eyes
OK
My iphone has only 5% of whats on my ipod so the selection is a bit more edited
Paul Simon; Kodachrome
Alison Krauss; Down To The River To Pray
Johm Prine; angel from Montgomery
Danny Knowls; Coming Up for air
Jonathan Richman; the Girl Stands Up To Me Now
Loudon Wainwright; Gray In LA
Nazareth; This Flight Tonight
Wilco; Jesus Etc
Show Of Hands; Arragence, Ignorance & Greed
James mcmurty; just Us Kids
As for the above I know all the tracks apart from the Sufjan so I give it an 8
I still couldn't figure out
how to pick ten random songs without making a value judgement, so I just clicked on the "time" column and these are the first ten in the list (they are all also exactly 4:53, wierdly enough):
(the Ry Cooder/David Lindley track is from a live bootleg)
Thunderstruck - AC/DC
Clever Trevor - Ian Dury & The Blockheads
We Shall Overcome - Bruce Springsteen
I Believe (When I Fall In Love It Will Be Forever) - Stevie Wonder
Woolly Bully - Ry Cooder & David Lindley
Just Like A Woman - Bob Dylan
Don't Get Me Wrong - Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band
You And Me And Time - George Jones (With Georgette Jones)
Instant Pussy - Matching Mole
I Wish I Was In New Orleans - Tom Waits
Pedro: 8/10 for LWIII and Paul Simon alone!
Well you certainly can't argue with Track No 2
A good strong showing - 8/10. Tails off a bit towards the end (tho' Tom just saves the day).
Let's see what the next person thinks of this frankly unrepresentative selection...
Your kisses are wasted on me – The Pipettes
Breakaway – Tracey Ullman
Friday – Daniel Beddingfield
No sudden moves – Amy Wadge
None but Jesus – Hillsong
Buckminster Fuller – Nerina Pallot
In the flesh – Pink Floyd
Why do fools fall in love – Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers
Under one sky – John McCusker’s Under one sky
Mrs Robinson – Simon & Garfunkel
Not one but two Kashmir Klub alumni!
Amy Wadge and Nerina Pallot were both very popular regulars at the Kash. The latter in particular must have played some of her earliest gigs there, as she only had two or three songs at first. She was charming and very talented; she was (and remains) also quite heart-stoppingly beautiful...
Never made it along to the
Never made it along to the Kashmir (much to my regret) but was a regular visitor to the Big Secret singer/songwriter night at the Ginglik club under Shepherds Bush Green where Nerina played often, as did Wadge, Beth Rowley, Jon Allen, Shelley Poole, the Storys and a host of other Word-friendly singists who went on to more acclaim. Do miss those days and it was a shame when the Big Secret stopped.
Nerina's got a new album out in a few weeks and seems to have been getting a lot of press coverage in the dailies in advance of the release - much deserved. Her latest video's quite charming with a spontaneous "hey kids, let's do the show right here!" vibe to it and a positively catchy pop tune.
Saw the Wadge playing live only a couple of months ago...
Only know two of the above!!.........
So 8/10 for "In the Flesh" alone.
Here's me:
Three Longers Later Stereolab
Everything goes my way – Metronomy
For Lovers – Wolfman feat’ Pete Doherty
D-sho qub – Autechre
Battle of Bongo Hill – The Herbaliser
I’d Rather Be With You – Bootsy Collings
The Whyte House – John Barry
Sexy MF – Prince
Just Another Sucker on the Vine - Tom Waits
Is She Really Going out with Him? - Joe Jackson
Only knowingly know one of the above...
...though more could be lurking somewhere on the ipod - half expected some to turn up via shuffle. Instead, the following emerged (oh - 6 out of 10 based solely on Joe Jackson):
Porcelain Monkey - Warren Zevon
Absolutely Sweet Marie (demo) - Jason & The Scorchers
(I'm stuck in a Pagoda with) Tricia Toyota - The Dickies
Atomic - Blondie
Nine Hundred Miles - Woody Guthrie
One Mint Julep - The Clovers
Paradise Skies - Max Webster
Romance In Durango - Bob Dylan
Leaving the Harbo(u)r - Nanci Griffith
Razor Valentine - Thea Gilmore
I know the last two on your list
so on that basis award you 8/10 (to cover my ignorance)
Here goes, Ipod to shuffle,
Morning Benders - Pull Up The Roots
Tindersticks - Drunk Tank
Justin Townes Earle - Halfway To Jackson
The The - Pillar Box Red
Grant-Lee Phillips - Love My Way
Watson Twins - Map To Where You Are
Jeff Finlin - Love And Happiness
Sweet Billy Pilgrim - No Jesus Here
Tom Petty - The Best Of Everything
Cracker - Trials And Tribulations
Not sure I know all of these myself
I was actually referring to
Gabriel's list but am very slow keyboard slapper
8/10 for Happy Harry
Although I am only familiar with two. But on the basis that they are Tom Petty and The The I reckon there must be some other nuggets there.
And an extra gold star for MartynB's selection of Jason and the Scorchers
OK here's my random bunch
Nick Lowe. Feel again.
k.d.Lang. You're OK
Priscilla Ahn. Find my way back home. (From a Word cover CD)
k.d.lang (again. I'm down to my last cigarette.
Adam and the Ants. Ants invasion.
The Shirelles. It's love that really counts (in the long run)
Sparrow and the Workshop.Last chance.
The Rolling Stones. Street fighting man
k.d.lang. The Valley
Rachel Unthank and the Winter Set. Fair Rosamund
Three out of ten k.d. lang with over six thousand to choose from. As Harry Hill would say what are the chances of that happening? I suppose someone cleverer than me will now tell me
Back home
So I can have another go from my server
Ben Folds 5; Kate
T Bone Burnett, river of love
Ellis, you're the only one
The Beatles, good night
Kate Bush, Joanni
Bruce Cockburn, live on my mind
Long Ryders, still get by
Balham Alligators, last waltz
Solomon Burke, the fall
Jackson Browne, desperadoes under the eaves
Chris gets 8/10 for kd & Basher, no idea about Sparrow & have a huge dislike for Adams ants.
Back home
So I can have another go from my server
Ben Folds 5; Kate
T Bone Burnett, river of love
Ellis, you're the only one
The Beatles, good night
Kate Bush, Joanni
Bruce Cockburn, live on my mind
Long Ryders, still get by
Balham Alligators, last waltz
Solomon Burke, the fall
Jackson Browne, desperadoes under the eaves
Chris gets 8/10 for kd & Basher, no idea about Sparrow & have a huge dislike for Adams ants.
Ok pedr0
As you will see from my list I am the wrong person to judge yours, however I recognise 6 performers and so for that I will give you a six rounded up to a 7 for Balham Alligators and finally an 8 for Ben Folds 5 "Kate" as that is my wifes name.
The Jam "All Around The World"
The Fratellis "My Friend John"
Gary Numan "Are Friends Electric"
Morrissey "Sister I'm A Poet" (live)
Elton John "Teacher I Need You"
The Beatles "Yesterday"
Paul Weller "Has My Fire Really Gone Out"
Mama Cass "Make Your Own Kind of Music"
Foo Fighters "Everlong"
Jimi Hendrix "All Along The Watchtower"
Great! It's Dave Amitri -
one of my faves. I know all those songs apart from The Fratellis and the Elton john one. I'd give the rest 7/10. If The Jam song had been any other it would have been 8, but it's too shouty. Numan, the Fabs, Jimi and Mama Cass are all classic tracks and I admire Sister I'm A Poet more than love it.
When You Walk In The Room Agnetha Falkstog
Let It Rain Eric Clapton
Jackie Wilson Said Dexys
Let There Be Rock AC/DC
For The turnstiles Neil Young
First We Take Manhatten Leonardo Cohen
oh You Pretty Things David Bowie
Voulez Vous Abba
Harpo and Chico pianos the Marx Brothers
Garden Party - John Fogerty
Mr Fade I'll give you a very solid 8 out of 10
A few I don't know (I'm not a big Clapton fan) but more than half could have come from my own ipod so that's gotta be good, plus you get extra points for that particular Neil Young song.
My own attempt
Go Your Own Way - Fleetwood Mac
On The Sunny Side of the Street - Ted Lewis
What I'm Feelin (Good) - Nightmares on Wax
Going Up The Country - Canned Heat (Woodstock version)
Street Fighting Man - Tim Ries
Black Cowboys - Bruce Springsteen
Torn Curtain - Television
Whiter Shade of Pale - Annie Lennox
Point Blank - Man or Astroman?
Theme to Route 66 - Reverend Organdrum
Not what I would have picked to represent myself.
Double randomizer with a twist
Bartender - I'll take a "double randomizer with a twist"
Mr Fade - a fine selection. You can make me a mix tape anytime - a 7/10.
And mine
Medicine - Eddi Reader
City Of Dreams - Marah
If I Were a Carpenter - Luka Bloom
Sometimes She Forgets - Steve Earle
Manana - Ibrahim Ferrer
Still In the Mood - Deacon Blue
Santa Fe - Drive By Truckers
The Lone Official - Lambchop
Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap - AC/DC
Queen of the Coast - Laura Cantrell
Rnd(10)
A solid 8, Lambchop, Steve Earle and Deacon Blue is a real bonus for me at least but not keen on AC/DC.
Here's mine
What he wrote - Laura Marling
Can You Forgive Her - Pet Shop Boys
Amulet - Paul Simon
If you were there beware - Arctic Monkeys
My Life - Billy Joel
Sweet Gene Vincent - Ian Jury & The Blockheads
Half A Person - The Smiths
Why Didn't You Call Me - Shelby Lynne
Flowers of Guatemala - REM
Is this the way to Amarillo - Tony Chrsitie
No 11 was Tender Trap - Frank Sinatra
Los Aromas
Quite a good selection there, including my favourite Smiths song (for bonus points) and Laure Marling, Arctic Monkeys, Pet Shop Boys and various other artists that I admire; but you let yourself down with your final record. So I give you a 7/10.
Anyway, here's mine:
1. First Aid Kit- Ghost Town
2. The Saturdays- Work
3. Kraftwerk- The Man Machine
4. British Sea Power- Fear Of Drowning
5. The Beatles- In My Life
6. Love- The Daily Planet
7. The Carpenters- Superstar
8. Gerry & The Pacemakers- I'll Be There
9. The Flaming Lips- Race For The Prize
10. Manic Street Preachers- Tsunami
I will say 7/10
For your random selection Tom, not familiar with First Aid Kit, not keen on Manics or Gerry ATP, but really like some of the others, especially Race For The Prize!
Here is mine:
The Cure - Just One Kiss
Beach House - Silver Soul
The Divine Comedy - Neapolitan Girl
Railway Children - You're Young
Dennis Wilson - Holy Man (Instrumental)
The Fiery Furnaces - Guns Under The Counter
Darts - Come Back My Love
The Damned - See Her Tonite
Gruff Rhys - Conservation Conversation
Morrissey - My Love Life (US Single Version)
Make of that what you will!
I'll go for 8
Quite a few artists I like special commendations for Dennis Wilson and Darts and nothing in the list I would be unhappy to give a spin.
Here goes
George Gershwin - Rhapsody In Blue
Geno Delafoise -C'est Pas La Peine Brailler
Papa Wemba - Shadow
XTC - The Meeting Place
Fleetwood Mac - Not That Funny
Kimya Dawson & Ants - Tree Hugger
OK Go - This Too Shall Pass
Jagga Jazzist - One Armed Bandit
The Kissaway Trail - Three Million Hours
Sparks - Amateur Hour
Good grief!Gershwin is on a Gerry Anderson compilation, the 2nd one's on a Cajun compilation and three in a row from Word CDs.Random indeed
At least 6!
Ralph deserves at least a Europa League spot for XTC alone! At least half of the others I've never heard of - I guess Spotify might assist..
Oh dear...
Theme From UFO - Barry Gray
Flying Saucer Attack - The Rezillos
Him - Lily Allen
Wrap It Up - Eurythmics
I'm Alive (Sasha and BT's Atraxion Future Mix) - Seal
They Can't Take That Away From Me - Frank Sinatra
Yester-Me, Yester-You, Yesterday - Stevie Wonder
No more Doggin' - Steve Miller Band
Life On Your Own - Human League
Pursuit of Happiness - Weekend Players
No complaints from me about
No complaints from me about the Barry Gray Orchestra. That theme tune is a couple of minutes of pure retro shagadelicness.
Nor from us
UFO is a regular viewing pleasure of the FPO and I
esp when we feel the need to study Straker's unique approach to man management ...
Before I have another go...
... that list gets 8 out of ten.
UFO followed by Flying Saucers? Feel the Spotify making efforts! I LOVE Lily Allen. I do not know those Eurythmics or Seal tunes, but find them dull performers so you wobble here, but Sinatra, Wonder, Miller and League are all planet shagging musical collossi. And one of them appears to be singing about dogging which is good. No idea who the Weekend Players are. A fine mix mr Steady. I now offer...

But that's simply how many I have actually heard! Lady Gaga, to me, is just some weird bint I see in the papers and her music has largely passed me by (should I bother?). Seeing XTC on the list reminds me of my first year at college in 1980! There's a good dollop from the 1960s, which is no bad thing. Here's my iPod's list:
Dream On - Dreadzone
Seven Nation Army - White Stripes

Alright, Joe R
Giving the six of your songs I´ve heard I give you eight out of ten. Haven´t been listening to Beck in a while, and the Doors I can do without. But with Tindersticks, Lykke, Richard and The Last Shadow Puppets we could have a thing or two or four in common. Not sure if I´ve heard that song by Clinic or not. I really like Tammi, but haven´t heard that particular one. Nice eclectic taste as well.
And my player seems to have taken the opportunity to crash.
Surprised you haven't heard the Tammi one
It's one of her better known ones, and is on the Motown Chartbusters compilations. Anyway, give it a listen, it's aces. Also, the Clinic track is off their latest album.
I'm in a generous mood, so I'll say I would've given your selection 9/10 had your mp3 player been working.
Er, you know what?
Got her confused with Tammy Wynette. It´s never happened before. Ha! I´m with you now. Great song. Her and Marvin´s voices really sounded sweet.
I probably need to drink some water. As you were.
A Solid 7 From Me

My player is alive again - yes!
Let´s Mr Radio. Nice collection you´ve got. The Beatles with a great solo from George. Also like Stevie, but have never heard that track. XTC, Crowded House and - oh yeah - Kate Bush. Not so big on Joni, Billy and Donald. I´ll give you six out of ten.
I´m not familiar with England Dan and John Ford Coley. Sounds as if it could be a folk act. Will have to check them out. Where should I start? Recommendations?
