The ghost of Karen Carpenter

KDH's picture

Heard this track "Slow" on Radio Two and assumed it was a lost Carpenters album track - in fact it's a brand new track by someone called Rumer, and it's just gorgeous - no Youtube yet...

Other tracks sound promising too...

Thanks for that,

heard it myself on Radio 2 yesterday afternoon on the way back from work, and like you thought it was a Carpenters track I wasn't familiar with. Was so suprised to hear it wasn't them, that I missed the name of the artist, will check them out later when I get back home...cheers.

On the subject of the Carpenters...

anyone know why the track Crescent Noon is unavailable either on iTunes or Spotify? One of their best imho. Stunning vocals.

Good work, KDH.

I was trying to find this last week.

An interesting point.. Yes, she does have a Karen Carpenteresque voice but is it right to stick a Richard Carpenteresque arrangement and production on it? People always seem to think of The Carpenters as the phenomenal instrument which was Karen's voice and.. that's it. They're wrong. Richard Carpenter's genius as an arranger and producer created one of those wonderful symbioses which is synergistic rather than addative and I believe his talents were the greater multiplier.

Anyway. Where am I going here? Oh yes.

Is this homage or plagiarism? That clip posted a couple of weeks back of the AC/DC copiers springs to mind.

Couldn't agree

more, Lenny. I think Richard Carpenter is hugely underrated, constantly providing the perfect backdrop for his sister to shine.

As regards homage or plagiarism, I'm going for homage in style, as the song still stands on it's own merits for my money.

Now, when's the new "A Girl Called Eddy" album due?

A long-time fan…

… I know Rumer slightly and always felt it was only a matter of time before she gained wider attention - one of the most amazingly gifted natural singers I've ever come across. Hope this proves to be her big break. I must say, though, that as far as arrangements go I prefer her stuff here (even though it's just as retro)::

Sounds lovely

- thanks David.

Do you know if the album mentioned will ever see the light of day?

I wish I knew…

I think it was done as some sort of library-music-type project. I'd kill for a copy myself - but I suspect it might not happen now, sadly.
