The end of Lily Allen as a recording artist, I presume...

Tippy Wooder's picture

Speaking to Radio 1's Sara Cox, LILY ALLEN has confirmed she'll take "one or two years off from recording and performing music" from March 2010.

It follows rumours of her quitting music to pursue a career in acting. The singer said she would use the time off to start her own record label and set up a fashion shop with her sister.

Well

I don't suppose she can top the accolade of being best pop star of the noughties, or whatever title the current issue bestows upon her.

She records music?

Who knew? Pop star of the noughties? Surely, simply Mike Skinner in a party frock?

(Grabs coat before Rob 'Fuck Off' Fitzpatrick arrives ...)

Sure she has her faults

But think about this before you start slagging her off, because without Lily Allen there would be no Kate Nash. Literally, no Kate Nash.

Do you want to imagine a world without Kate Nash? I know I don't.

Or, by extension ...

without Keith Allen there would be no Kate Nash. Deal or no deal?

This is too good to be true

so, if I went back in time, I could dispense with Kate Nash by convincing Lily Allen not to bother singing? It's a price I'm willing to pay.

And while we're at it could we remove Paloma Faith, Duffy and Pixie Lott from history too?

Please?

Thanks for reminding me

I forgot about Duffy. Without Lily there would be no Duffy. Literally, no Duffy...

Do you want to imagine a world without Duffy? I know I don't.

To steal a line from Clive Anderson

"Is there no beginning to her talents?"

Metal Mickey | 2 December 2009 - 5:21pm

I always thought he should

ask himself that question.

Me too

In an argument I had some time ago it was posited that the smugness I find so nauseating was merely a persona. Yet when I've seen programmes where he is apparently being himself there is no difference, save perhaps an increased dose of smugness.

a nation

mourns

not one that has anything to do with: tartan; shortbread; fine whiskies; SAHB; Nazareth (rock band not place); SKIDS; deep fried pizzas.... oh you get the pictyoor,

Don't worry

Word will continue to write about her, be sure.

Two years is a long time in show business...

I fear that the 'Where Are They Now?' file beckons.

Be strong, people. You promised me you wouldn't cry!

Rob 'Fuck off' Fitzpatrick!

I'm debating whether or not that would be a cool nickname to have...

Where on Earth

do we now find our fix of intoxicatingly mixed gallows-funny reality-pop, provocatively honest opinions and unapologetically booze-n-sexed-up showbiz controversy?

I am bereft.

cornishmanc | 2 December 2009 - 9:47pm

Spotify™

plenty of pish on there, or so I'm told...

0
James Blast | 2 December 2009 - 10:38pm

what on earth are you on about

?

Chris G | 2 December 2009 - 10:43pm

Time for this then...

Remember her this way... *fights back tears*

(She looks great in that chauffeur uniform, though...)

Popstars haven't got any stamina anymore

I'm convinced most of them see it as a stepping stone to their real ambition of being a tv presenter. Sure fire way of being in the tabloids every day instead of every other.

Think i must be a bit of a rarity

I quite like lily allen, didn't like her when she first emerged, but now, don't mind her at all.

1
Mint | 3 December 2009 - 2:27am

I don't mind her either.

I have enjoyed the singles from her most recent record & I thought a few tracks on her debut weren't too scruffy either. I think she is wise to take a break from recording / promoting music. There is a danger that her next record would be all about what a drag recording and promoting music is, otherwise. I'm sure no one wants to hear that.

Thirded

Never understood the vitriol poured on the poor lass.

On The Fence | 3 December 2009 - 6:38pm

Two words -

her dad.

Totally undeserved, but it all stems from her 'connections'.

Black Type | 4 December 2009 - 12:23am

Having an idiot for a dad

confirms her greatness.
The best girlfriend you ever had... her dad was an idiot, right?
:-)
