The devil should have won!

I've always thought it most unjust, indeed absurd, that the devil conceded defeat to Johnny when he went down to Georgia. The devil's fiddle solo (albeit perhaps unfairly backed by a band of demons) was far superior to Johnny's attempt. At least in Charlie Daniels' account of the event.

And while I'm on the subject...
How come God, right?, if He's omnipotent and everything, didn't see that the devil whipped an ace out from under his cloak in Chris De Burgh's account of their Texas Hold'em showdown? At least He didn't try and blame it on the boogie, like some people do.
And to play the fiddle holding onto the bow
with a pistol, if Steve earle is to believed. Remarkable.
can we show some sympathy here
he's busy man driving tanks, offing Czars and Kennedy's as well as "laying traps for troubadours" !
The same applies here
Clearly
all contests refereed by that Norwegian that did for Chelsea.
And some associated observations
When I was a young innocent boy in the 70s, playing with my toy soldiers (you know, the ones that came in packs of 30?), it was a simple factual observation that the German uniforms were much more cool and groovy than the boring old British and American ones.
And when I was dragged to the pantomime, the villain was ALWAYS about a billion times funnier and more entertaining than the good guy.
And this is also true in most films.
And when I read Keith Richards biography, it got really boring about the time he staopped taking drugs and mixing with criminal-types.
Funny old world.
I always thought the Devil should have won but
until you mentioned it I never realised that he conceded very quickly.
"The devil bowed his head because he knew that he'd been beat, and he laid that golden fiddle on the ground at Johnny's feet."
The Devil I don't believe in is a lot trickier than that! I don't think Pete Cook in Bedazzled would have given up quite so easily.
He even lets Johnny get the last word in. What sort of unholy one is that?
