Another hit for Spotify

Pretty amazing, I agree. More and more I find it hard to believe we used to have to browse record shops and actually buy things to hear all this stuff.

Having said that, I've always thought Buddy Holly was overrated! He's not a patch on the big rockers of the time like Gene Vincent and Eddie Cochrane. I see him more as a light entertainer. Influential, yes, but not much substance. From what I understand he pushed the boundaries of studio recording practice for his time though, which is always interesting.

Thanks

Great tip Lucas. Buddy Holly's genius seems to getting the full credit it deserves at long last.

I don't think this is going too far...

...but I'd say he was one of those responsible for actually creating the pop song.

And his chart career while he was alive spanned 18 months. Phew.

Absolutely.

The quality of the songs is outstanding. I was listening to the version of True Love Ways yesterday, when you hear the studio talk and count in. It sent a shiver down my spine. What a vocalist.

Certainly don't see...

...why the creator of "C'Mon Everybody" has any more substance than the creator of "Rave On". Buddy didn't grimace as much, which may be it.

This album is currently not

available in Sweden. Feck!

I love it

that a Swede (presumably) is able to swear fluently in Irish-english.

Hope it gets there soon, Ola.

I'm still only up to Oh Boy!

This is some of the most exciting, economical music ever recorded.

Buddy is ace

I spent all day listening to this. I always liked Buddy but this has really opened my ears. The slow version of Slippin' and Slidin' is just magic.

Everyday is still my favourite of his. That's one weird little record.

Typìcal

Bought the complete Buddy Holly Bootleg 10 cd set only last year. Though why i wanted 12 takes of "Slippin and a Slidin" eludes me. These albums (Bootlegs) are basically the same but with more takes and more interviews and newsclips and one cd of the originals of the cover versions Buddy did. Thanks for the tip,Lucas.
And how much better are the undubbed versions ? Especially "That makes it tough"
Here's the original of Blue days,Black Nights by Ben Hall,Weldon Myrick and Dena Hall

undubbed

The solo version of Learning The Game does it for me. I had never heard it until today and I am completely and utterly blown away by it.

Recorded

in his living room, as legend has it.Everything on "The Apartment Tapes" is wonderful.

Apart from...

Apart from all the music (and remember that he died at the age of 22) Buddy Holly also laid down a template that has lasted for 50 years.

The Crickets were a self-contained group, with lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bass and drums, playing and singing songs written by members of the group - the format that became the beat group, and then the rock band, and has dominated popular music ever since.
