Where:
NFT 1 on London's southbank
Comments:
As there is precious little footage of the band live, the makers have done a marvellous job illustrating the tale of Mott The Hoople from birth to death, rebirth and death again. A lot of the footage came from the 8mm lens of a Philadelphia filmer alongside some great photographs. The tale is told with great humour with much emphasis being put on the contribution of their mad genius producer Guy Stevens. Could have done with a little more about last years triumphant reunion gigs but maybe thats being saved for the DVD of this loving tribute to the Dudes. They put the final breakup down to them having two managers at the end which caused friction. I heard a Mott bandmember mutter in the row behind me "And thats still the problem."
The Audience:
Fair mix of ages with a few old friends meeting up by the sound of backslapping and "haven't seen you since....' talk. Celebs spots apart from Mott members - Jimmy Page and Don Letts. Apparently Clapton was spotted but I didn't see him.
Food & Drink:
Nowt, I just about got there before lights went down
It Made Me Think...:
Their fanclub boss said 'They were around for five years, I mean the Kaiser Chiefs have been around that long, but who cares about them even now?' During a Q&A at the end they hinted at more gigs next year...maybe.
