Thank God. The August Word is here!
Posted by Beany on 5 July 2008 - 10:11am.
As much as I savoured and howled with laughter at the John Martyn interview I am starting to have nightmares after seeing his cover shot staring menacingly at me everytime I blog on.
This morning the new issue arrived with a more fragrant George Harrison on the cover. Thank you.
P.S. had to have a quick peek. The article on the record shop rite of passage - spot on. It is what makes this magazine special.

It's disgraceful.
The fetching young cartoon lady on the buckshee CD cover appears to be almost entirely naked, with only a cheap Spanish guitar to protect her honour. I shall be asking WHSmith to remove all copies from the shelves.
George Harrison again....
He's on the cover of Uncut this month too. Is there an anniversary or something to promote?
Tell me ...
does he have a beard in the cover shot? The delivery to Ireland takes 10 days to get here!
No beard. Shock, horror!
Black and white shot too. The non-subscription copy may be in colour and have a beard though. No bare bums on the back.
Headline: Who's The Best Dead Rock Star?
Subtle.
I was surprised
when the thud of magazine on doormat brightened up a particularly sodden Belfast morning.
Even more surprised to see George had chalked up the rare "Front Page" double adorning the current issues of the 2 mags I subscribe to.
Would be interested to know what The Word editorial team thought when they saw Uncut had also decided to go with The Quiet One (albeit with a photo of a different vintage).
Did anyone guess correctly....
....on the recent cover star thread?
Is he another beardie?
Can't see my copy till 7pm as I'm at work(though clearly not doing any!).
Interesting about UNCUT having the same cover-star...
... didn't the same thing happen, in America, with Springsteen in the 70's?
TIME magazine and NEWSWEEK if my mem'ry serves me well?
Abstinence makes the heart grow fonder
I don't know how I managed it but I have "saved" the July issue to take on holiday on Monday and intended savouring its contents as I bake my buns in Turkey - now you tell me the new issue has arrived 7 days early!
Assuming of course that our revered postal service manages to deliver north of the border in time I will now have double the delights (gedit) to look forward to.
I'm a double issue saver too
Two weeks in Cornwall with two issues. Sweet.
Nice tribute to my personal hero Easy-E too. Never thought I'd see that in Word. Rob Fitzpatrick I salute you!
Pop Pictionary
Eh?
Now I like a good cryptic crossword or picture quiz as much as the next man, but blimey....some of these are not 'painfully cryptic', they are just painfully not very good. Number 3 anyone? Number 5?
Looked at the answers
Yes Eamonn, I do want to thump you. Canary = Carey? Piffle.
Anyone shuffle off to interview Leonard Cohen while he was over or could you not afford his fees?
Wasn't it Baldrick,
not Blackadder, who had 'a cunning plan'?
...and who was Duke 'Ellingtington'? I can hear him signing 'That's Not My Name' now.
My copy of the mag arrived sans cd, due to the bag being open - how do I go about getting a replacement?
Drop a line...
To Jerry. He'll sort out a replacement for you.
Cheers
...I've emailed him (I'd already phoned the subs dept). I explained it in the email (hope I don't get 2 now!)
