Tell Tale Signs CD 3 - is it worth the extra bunce?

No it isn't :-(

I could have told you that

without having heard any of it.

£90 for 3CDs of late period Bob Dylan? If you pay that then you're a fool who's been all too easily parted with his money.

Hmmmm...

The first two were pretty good. The third brought nothing new to the party and, in many cases, were just additional alternate takes of alternate takes aready on CDs 1&2

*sigh*

stimpy | 3 December 2008 - 12:11pm

90 quid???

..money doesn't talk, it swears.

shane pacey | 3 December 2008 - 12:10pm

Well ...

It does come with a lovely book.

I accept that it's largely 'unneccessary'. But then so is 90% of what's sitting in our ipods or on our shelves of CDs.

And no-one needs three versions of 'Missisippi'. I bought it, decanted it onto my ipod, listened to it all a few times and then distilled it down to the dozen or so tracks I will listen to repeatedly.

I'd still say buy it if it was your only way to get to hear his version 'Duncan & Brady'. Otherwise buy the 2 CD version, and look for a download.

Steven C | 3 December 2008 - 12:18pm

I'd second that...

Unless you're a REALLY serious Bobcat then I'd say the one new track on CD3 definitely isn't worth the additional £82 for the 3cd edition :-)

stimpy | 3 December 2008 - 12:23pm

It's clearly too late for us ...

but I'd like to think that maybe we have saved some other poor unfortunate soul (£82).

In the interests of honesty and transparency, can I admit here that I bought the 2CD set as well, as the 3CD version hadn't arrived on the day of release. Oh, the shame ...

We really should poker some time.

I don't even know how to play poker and yet I get the feeling I could still make a mint out of you.

LOUDspeaker | 3 December 2008 - 12:59pm

Heh...

Not a Bobcat then, LOUD?

Bob Dylan: LOUDspeakers career overview

Three excellent surrealist folk-rock albums between 65 - 66. One very strong 2CD Essential Best Of compilation. That's it for me. Everything else is boring (including Blood On The Tracks).

LOUDspeaker | 3 December 2008 - 2:16pm

Apropos of nothing...

and taking the usual Wikipedia disclaimer into account... it appears that Zim's best selling album in Canada was Slow Train Coming!

No accounting for taste, is there? :-)

stimpy | 3 December 2008 - 2:38pm

You probably could ... but only if

you had playing cards with tiny autographed pictures of Dylan album covers, as I could never, ever fold or throw back a card!

(I was once threatened with expulsion at school for playing cards in the library. In the end they just made me give the money back. You have been warned.)

Steven C | 3 December 2008 - 1:17pm

We really should poker some time.

Should read "We really should PLAY poker some time."

It just sounds rude with that word missing.

LOUDspeaker | 3 December 2008 - 2:09pm

Also in the interests of H&T...

...I'll admit here that I illegally downloaded CD3 before deciding it wasn't worth the £82 premium over the regular 2CD version.

stimpy | 3 December 2008 - 1:10pm

I've heard it...

...and, no. It's not worth it. Some of it's quite good. Some of it's not. None of it is worth that kind of money.
