Teenage Fanclub - Shadows. Out yesterday!

Madrid's picture

Have you got yours yet? If you haven't you should because it's bloody marvelous. Their best since Songs From Northern Britain.

ps. I have no connection to the Fannies whatsoever.

we didn't get in stock!

and I've no idea why. they're a local band and we had loads of people asking for it all day yesterday.

Definitely strongerr than

Definitely strongerr than Man-Made and Howdy! with a couple of bona-fide Fannies classics on there. Love the lush psychedelics of Gerry's tracks, especially the opener, and - as ever - the big-hearted strumalong beauty of Norman's songs. Is there any other band that's been going 20 years and been so consistently good?

No there hasn't

and by my reckoning there's at least 4 tracks, so far, that'd make any Fannies best-of: Baby Lee, Shock and Awe, When I still have thee and Sweet days waiting. At least two or three others are very close. And perennial weaker link Raymond McGinley has his best showing since Grand Prix.

Hank Marvin busily trying to rush release

his new platter 'Teenage Fanclub'. Might look a bit odd mind...

Nice Shadows

Bought it yesterday and it was most encouraging to see that a few copies seem to have been shifted from each shop I visited. I love "Today Never Ends" and "Into The City". The drum production seems a little weak as on their last LP but I'm enjoying the harmonies and songs. Will be after the New Divine Comedy album too.

On Spotify

I've listened to it a few times today and am liking it more with each listen. Quite a mellow sound to this album but there's not a bad song on it.

Got it

It's a definite grower.

As ever, it's Norman's stuff that stands out on a first listen, but on the second Gerry's are gaining on him. Raymond's bringing up the rear, but his songs often do take several listens to worm their way in.

Looking forward to enjoying Shadows right through the summer...

I don't know what planet you're living on...

but to my ears it just sounds fey, uninteresting and incongruous to today.

Great Stuff

I'm saying best since Howdy, but I loved Howdy more than most it seems.

All 3 songwriters on fine form. Very hard to pick a favourite from Norman's 4, all gems.

Saw them in Dublin the other night. Lucky me.

Bit gutted

it wasn't lying on the mat when I got in from work. But after 5 years what's another day?
