TED Talks & Do Lectures

hermon hermit's picture

Since I can only find a couple of passing references to the TED talks on the blog, I thought it's worth flagging up what a stimulating resource these presentations on a wide range of topics are, see

http://www.ted.com

And spending less that 20 minutes of your life watching Ken Robinson entertain on creativity and education is a good place to start...

While it is manly spoken word, there's some music here including Eddi Reader and Rokia Traore:

And the UK's own version, the Do Lectures, founded by UK sportswear company Howies can be found at the link below - the 2009 talks are due to go on line in the next couple of weeks.

The Ken Robinson talk

has changed my life just a little bit. I used to watch all the TED talks, but they started to get backed up in iTunes, so now I just dip in and watch the ones I fancy. However, the best of them are very good indeed.

Crows

I've been meaning to start watching these lectures for over a year, when a colleague told me about TED. Apparently the one about crows is astounding. Anyone seen it?

The crows one was astounding

A colleague introduced me to these about a year ago, and I have watched quite a few. The Willard Wigan talk is great as well...

I am led to believe that the science behind the crows one was discredited though..I think he had been training the crows or something like that...

Incidentally, here is a spreadsheet of all the TED talks..

The Do lectures always look interesting..There is also something called Interesting http://russelldavies.typepad.com/planning/interesting2009/

I am trying to convince work to stump up the money for me to go to next years Do lectures...
