How can i prevent my earphones from turning into a birds nest when i stuff them into my pocket

The more pressing question is...

... why are your ears located at the top of your thighs?

Don't stuff them in your pocket?

Or wind them around something, or keep one of those plastic cable-ties that that come with just about anything electrical these days.

I've heard that if you rub...

a mixture of rock salt, egg yolk, ground fenugreek and guano onto the headphone lead then it will unfold itself like a dream.

Bugger that

That's a soft Southern myth.
All you need do is lightly douse with a bottle of Sheffield's very own Henderson's Relish.

This works...

I've used it myself on occasion. It's a bit of a faff, but less of a faff than the untangling faff if you don't do it.

Any chance you could switch

to bluetooth headphones ? Remove the cable altogether ?
Even if your device doesn't have Bluetooth built in you can get add-on adapters, like this one - http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Adapter-Players/dp/B000...
