"Sweet Baby James"...
Posted by shane pacey on 14 September 2011 - 12:42am.
Posting this not just because it's a stunning performance of a nigh-on perfect song, but because it earned 12 "dislikes" on Youtube.
I know we all have differing tastes and all that, but really..there is nothing to dislike about this..
Is there?

Those early 70s 'In Concert' shows
are a great archive of the Laurel Canyon crowd at their peak. Here's Carole King nailing You Make Me Feel
1676 likes
somewhat outweigh the 12 dislikes.
It was 1675 until I watched it. Thanks for posting.
They've still got it
I watched this when it was on TV last month and really enjoyed it:
Nope
It's, as you say, perfect. But there are always cloth eared people out there.
maybe..
....it was the tank top over shirt combo? ;)
"Cloth-eared"
That'll be me then. It doesn't do anything for me. James Taylor never has.
I'd never bother going so far as to make a point disliking it on YouTube though.
Cloth eared
Could equally apply to me. there are loads of bands people rave about here that I can't abide. Each to their own, as usual. :-)
Happy with my cloth ears too
I like his duet with Alison Krauss on The Louvin's Tribute LP. That is worth checking out. His version of She Thinks I Still Care is better than George Jones. You've Got A Friend is rather nice.
But - You Can Close Your Eyes (thanks for permission JT), I hate it. His version of Up On The Roof just sucks. Likewise How Sweet It Is.
Everything else that I've heard has just been meh.
Can't get past his voice
My parent's played Mud Slime Slim a lot and the voice has always grated on me.
Their friend, however, introduced me to Tapestry and I think it's one of the most perfect albums ever recorded.
File under 'comfort album' come to think of it. I played half of it last night to cheer myself up.
I also grew up with James Taylor
Playing in the background and (unlike the Cohen or Dylan LPs) didn't get into it. Yet I recently heard a live recording on the radio from the Mud Slide Slim years and it suddenly made sense. So who knows.
