You can't write what you want whilst travelling by train?
Would they rather you did it at the wheel of your car?
No one should be harassed in this way, or made to surrender their private jottings - an invasion of privacy.
It comes to something when writing in public is suspicious...

Philistine culture that we have become. If he'd spent the journey tapping a phone, no one would have batted an eyelid...

Wasn't there

something similar that happened to a guy who was on his way to the airport in a taxi and was discussing Clash lyrics with his fellow Clash tribute band member and the cabbie alerted the rozzers as he'd been discussing 'Tommy Gun'
