Intelligent Life On Planet Rock
Sunday night in with......England Dan and John Ford Coley
Tonights Sunday smooth to take us out of the weekend and into another working week is so middle of the road it has white lines straight through it, it is also a very personal choice.
It is approching the 17th anniversary of my Dad passing away and as usual thoughts begin to drift back to a time when he was with us. The album "Nights Are Forever" was a huge favourite of my dad's and a quick search on Wikipedia found the album cover with 2 familiar faces staring out behind proper mid 70's styling (see the 2nd video). It evokes memories of a battered Old Holborn tin and Red Rizla papers, a glass of Bells, the Sunday Papers and my old man sitting in his chair doing his "correspondence" on a Sunday evening with this playing.
The song I remember best is "I'd Really Love To See You Tonight" and I have a vague recollection of my dad talking about this song because Terry Wogan had trouble deciphering a particular lyric and my dad writing in with a suggestion. No internet for such things in 1976!
It really is a gorgeous piece of 70's slush that I hope you enjoy.

Who negged this?
Can I just say daveross I was really touched by your post, and whoever negged it is bang out of order.
Neg away
It makes me feel important
Hear hear
I'm happy with the arrows, and have used both on occasion - and not always accompanied by any comment. Obviously it's a personal matter where you draw the line, but I really can't see any reason why anyone would have negged Dave's post, except that he (and yes, I'd bet my house it was a he) saw that the clips were of music he didn't like, and hit the down arrows without bothering to read Dave's post. Lazy, I'd call that.
It's fine
they obviously don't have the vocabulary to explain what their problem is so they take the option that is available to them. I have stated that I don't mind the voting arrows therefore must accept them, positive or negative, maybe they just don't enjoy easy listening. Thanks for your comment anyway.
Very gracious response
- completely at odds with the gracelesness shown by someone who decided the best respone to a touching post was to hit the down arrow and run away.
He/she (although given the site statistics - almost certainly the former) does not have to like this type of music but the least they could do was leave a brief note explaining themselves.
Anyway - I ran a thread on the genre that has become known as "Guilty Pleasures" (for good or ill) a while back - and was introduced to the wonderful Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds - a similar style and mellifluous magnificence to your post:
This is their "Falin' in Love". You may know it - hope you enjoy it - think you will.
Why didn't the "neg head"
simply ignore the post? What has been achieved by hitting the down arrow?
The 2nd track
That's the very same look I cultivated in the mid to late 70s -- the 'tache and the hair, not the clothes. I'd normally be stepping out wearing a black velvet jacket, cheesecloth shirt, a pair Brutus 3-button high waist jeans and a pair of desert boots.
Ahhhh.... I love those 70s pieces of "slush". Nice one.
The guy bottom right ...
...(sorry, not sure which is which) is a dead ringer for a '70s Craig Stadler.
And, presumably, a shitty stick?
With which you would fail to beat off the approaching females?
Smell is all important in this picture, Billy. A splash of Hai Karate, a bit of Pagan Man or perhaps some trusty Blue Stratos? Plus a bit of Cossack to hold the barnet in place.
I was just a bit too young to dress like that. Heaven knows I wanted to, though.
I have to say ...
...I've never been happy with the long hair/side-parting/fringe combo. It always seemed like a hairstyle unsure of itself. It tried to appeal to the yoof and the mums and dads, but ended up pleasing nobody.
Sadly, It's a long time
since the shitty stick was needed. I was a Blue Stratos boy - although the use of hair lacquer would have been considered just a touch too "nancy boy"-ish. There was the odd occasion when I just didn't have time to wash the hair on a Friday night and was saved by a liberal application of "dry shampoo" ( can't remember who made it).
I really like
"Love Is The Answer - it's not on YouTube, but here it is on Spotify:

Reminds me a bit of "Mahalia" by The Bible.
Nowt wrong with a bit of easy listening
on a Sunday evening, thanks for the reminder. And Love Is The Answer is indeed a fine tune. Written by Todd Rundgren , I believe.
Dan Seals
Dan Seals (England Dan) passed away earlier this year. He had gone Country with a tinge of singer/songwriter and had released a couple of very fine accoustic albums called In A Quiet Room which I recommend to readers here. In particular there is a song We Are One (not on Spotify) that is well worth seeking out.
