Still (possibly) the funniest sketch ever

Rigid Digit's picture

Had a very nice Vindaloo t'other day.

Reminded me of this (as Indian Takeaways always do)

Since first seeing this sketch

I have only been able to say "bread roll" the way they do. Brilliant.

It is a nailed-on classic

And also the only funny thing in Goodness Gracious Me.

Excellent though the OP is

Four Candles by the Two Ronnies and Morecambe and Wise with Andre Preview still get my votes.

Not the Nine O'clock News - Racist policeman

Arrested a Mr Rastus Odinga for, amongst other things...

Stepping on the cracks in the pavement.

Wearing a loud shirt in a built up area.

Still makes me laugh out loud. Should it these days?

I haven't seen the sketch

but it sounds to me like it's poking fun at the inherent ridiculousness of racism. In which case, fill yer boots!

Goodness Gracious Me

It ain't always funny, but it's often horribly true to life for a 2nd generation British Indian.

My Dad is "Mr Everything Comes From India" (when he isn't being Victor Meldrew) and my late Mum was always the woman in the restaurant saying "I could make this much cheaper at home... with just a *little* aubergine..."

Personally, I thought that sketch was a neat idea, and a timely one. It also reminds me, tangentially, of the great story about John Martyn and Danny Thompson's meal in a curry house, where they take on a group of racist customers - one of my favourite HORAs (or HOFAs?)

Now this one from a different angle

Now I found this funny at the time and still do but my uber PC alarm fears I may be just laughing at a stereotypical funny Indian accent. I don't believe that eitehr Rowan Atkinson or Richard Curtis were being dumb writing this and its clear who their target is but why does it feel not quite right in 2011? Or am I being over sensitive?

As Dr Mary from 'Frasier' might say - 'Bless your liberal white ass'
