Steve Mason - Boys Outside - where next?
Posted by craig42blue on 3 February 2011 - 7:53pm.
I really love Steve Mason's Boys Outside but I never really got the Beta Band...
So can anyone suggest what Mason related stuff I should try next?
Thanks

The Beta Band´s The Three EPs
You´re welcome.
For some reason
For some reason I didn't rate The Three EPs when I heard it last....
Try their last album
Heroes to Zeroes - you might find it more like Munsen's solo work.
Mason
You really should check this out, it's wonderful.

Ex-Traffic chap?
I followed Winwood after traffic but never Capaldi or Mason... time for Spotify...
You need to download the song
"I Walk The Earth" in his King Biscuit Time nom de plume.
Black Gold is a fine album. I love the Black Affair album, but it sounds more like an eighties techno, Human League hybrid. It's nowt like Boys Outside.
I recommend his Beta Bandmates work as The Aliens extremely highly. Have a listen to Robot Man by them.
Pleasure Pressure Point
The Black Gold album is currently going at £2.99 on Amazon.
Thanks..
I'll be giving King Biscuit Time a further listen..
Another Thumbs Up For The Three EPs
Everyone, and I mean everyone, should have the first track "Dry The Rain" in their lives. As heard in High Fidelity.
I also agree about The Aliens. "Astronomy For Dogs" is a mighty fine album.
If you like them, that would lead to their lead singer's (Lone Pigeon) solo stuff ("Concubine Rice" is a cracker). You should then go directly to his brother King Creosote (pretty much all his albums are worth having but "Kenny And Beth's Musikal Boat Rides" is a beauty). If you want to complete the trio of brothers work, then try to track down Pip Dylan's work.
All of this stuff could and should then lead you to the wonderful world of Fence Records.
Hot Shots II
by The Beta Band is spiffing as well. I think it is their most consistent - a sampler:
