Stephen Stills gig

Saw the wonderful Mr Stills on Saturday night. Except on the night he was not IMO anything like wonderful.

First acoustic half was great. In fact got quite emotional hearing these songs that I've loved for so many years played by the man himself. '4&20' and 'Change Partners' are songs I never thought I'd hear played live.

Then there was the second half. Oh dear!! It was too loud, but that's to be expected these days. But then the selection of songs was odd. Tom Petty cover, a bit of Joe Walsh. This from the man who's written some of the stone cold classics.

About 30/40 minutes into this my mate and I looked at each other and decided enough was enough. We were back in the boozer by 10.

In retrospect we should have stayed, but it was such a disappointment.

Was anyone else there, did we make a BIG mistake?

Yes, you made a mistake!

He finished with Bluebird, For What it's Worth, Love The One You're With, and Dark Star. Not a bad selection!

Yes, I could have done without the covers, but the rest of the set more than made up for it.

Great!

I have tickets for Sheffield on Saturday and am really looking forward to it after reading the piece in the latest magazine. He seems a lot more 'together' these days!

Excellent news

He plays Dublin next Wednesday and - having seen a few recent set lists - I was thinking of giving it a miss, despite shelling out for tickets months ago. I'm told there is a lot less of him these days too. Although on the cover of the recent CSNY live CD while Nash & Young are slim enough to get away with up to date photographs, there is only room for Stills & Crosby to appear in their svelte 60's hey day. Actually I'm not sure that Crosby was ever actually svelte ...

Oh dear

Saw the first 3 songs at Symphony Hall, Birmingham tonight.
1. Helplessly Hoping - What happened to his voice ? Perhaps he'll warm up as crowd treat him well.
2. Tree Top Flying - Voice no better - Suspect guitar playing
3. Girl From The North Country - Voice worse - guitar playing laughable - this guy used to be brilliant.
Really could not listen to one more attempt.
Time to try and find a pub with Setanta.
