SPOTIFY THE NOUGHTIES: Part One - Best of the year 2000
Glorious project commences today! As the countdown to the end of the Noughties begins, we are dedicating each Spotify Friday playlist to compiling the best of each year in the decade. Open our collaborative playlist here and add your own personal favourites from the year 2000. The idea is that by the end of November, we can compile it all into one giant überplaylist of the best of the entire ten years.
The rules, as seasoned Spotify Friday contributors know, are very simple:
1] Add just one song at a time, not entire albums. We'll only delete them.
2] Please don't add hobby-horse acts or your mate's band. We're after genuine good stuff that everyone can enjoy. We're trusting you on this one.
3] Don't forget to write a letter to Pedants' Corner at mail@wordmagazine.co.uk complaining that the decade doesn't end until 31/12/10, actually, and do you people have the FAINTEST IDEA what you are doing?
4] There are no further rules.
Unfortunately, our Spotify machine died earlier this week so we won't be able to play the list as we usually do. We might go and buy an extra-long cable and connect one of the other Macs. But we will be monitoring it closely and you can of course play it yourself.
More information on Spotify here. The free accounts are invite-only at the moment but if you need one, we have a few spare invitations. Mail me at andrew@wordmagazine.co.uk and I'll try to sort you out.

What he said
C'mon slackers, get it sorted.
Easy, kids
It's fixed now.
this might jog people's memory

Elastica
is now in the playlist. "Mad Dog God Dam" = tune.
It's amazing. The playlist so far consists of most of the tunes that I was listening to in 2000. Apart from two key exceptions. There's no JJ72 on Spotify, and the version of "Dirge" by Death in Vegas, is the lame album version, not the re-recorded single version, which was superb.
Good times.
Hmmm, the list has taken a sudden dancey turn.
No complaints from me but I wonder if the Mixmag lot have discovered the link.
(Oh, someone's just added Iron Maiden)
The Garnier one was me
That track defines 2000 for me. It was everywhere, or at least in all the right places.
can we have a ruling on sigor ros
I just included one of their tracks that came out in 1999 but well we all started listneing to them in the early 2000's!!?
I think we can be a bit elastic about it.
Someone's just put The Strokes on. They didn't really start til 2001 but I suppose they're OK really.
I find it helpful to go to metacritic

Yikes, and I thought Spotify was perfect...
No 'In The Sun' by Joseph Arthur. No 'Choochtown' by Hamell on Trial. I don't want to play after all :-(
ah
we set people the challenge of doing this yesterday, so some playlists from our readers should pop up here http://drownedinsound.com/community/boards/music/4199884
Spotify isn't great for 2000
for my faves. No Ryan Adams Heartbreaker. No I Am Shelby Lynne. No Big Tobacco by Pernice Brothers. No Chore of Enchantment by Giant Sand. No Hot Rail by Calexico. No Blue horse by Be Good Tanyas.
I'll leave it to the dance lot.....
Big Tobacco
is under Joe Pernice. I've added Prince Valium. Shame about the others though.
Ysbediau Heulog
Get out of my mind whoever put that in there!! get out!
Judges' ruling
'Love Changes Everything' or whatever it was by ELO is GONE because though released in 2000 it was recorded in 1980. Sorry, I don't make the rules. Actually though, I do. Whatever.
But full marks to whomever added 'I Want The Drugs' by Supersuckers.
Supersuckers
Thank you Mr. Harrison, that was me.
Closed? Am I doing something wrong?
Is the list closed? I can't seem to add right now...
