SPOTIFY: It's "Quality Friday"

Andrew Harrison's picture

A new departure for Spotify Friday. Instead of songs about animals or people, or covers or any of that, we're going for a simple theme this time: pure, uncut, quality tunes.

Think of songs that you'd play to someone and say "This is what music is all about." Be judicious and sparing. Leave that 12-minute jazz'n'bass odyssey alone and instead add that concise, beautiful piece of music that would convince even the hardiest sceptic to pay attention.

THE RULES, AS EVER
1] No complete albums.
2] No lengthy runs of songs by a single artist. We'll only prune them.
3] And, er, that's it.

The WORD Quality Friday playlist can be accessed here. We'll be playing it today and Tweeting responses now and again too. What more do you need? Go go go!

Rock on !

I was looking through my general mixed playlist I have on Spotify to see what to add. I looked and noticed 'Rock on' by David Essex and thought maybe it's not right for this list and then when I went back to check out the list someone had already added it. I wonder how many of the Word massive think it's a good tune? Well done whoever it was. Please do this on a regular basis as I will be trawling through to check out tracks that I don't know. I'm sure the Word Massive will provide a good few little gems.........

Come on, who DOESN'T think it's a good tune?

It is the very essence of pop.

In other news, this literally just in from Jim at Spotify:

"Friday 27th March 2009. A dark day for UK Spotify users...

Black Sabbath's back catalogue available digitally in the UK for the first time. In full, terrifying effect. Be afraid...

The Sab's

I've been using Spotify to re-acquaint myself with my teen favourites and one of the highlights has been re-discovering the Ronnie Dio era Sabbath. Lyrics are tosh of course, but sounds wonderful!

not fair

On us poor souls who don't have access to Spotify & Twitter at work and miss out on the opportunity to inflict our tastes on the Word office. What about starting on Wednesday and closing on Thursday evening ?
