Spot poll - Animal Collective or Monsters of Folk

Yes, I know, it's all a bit Smash Hits isn't it, but I just wondered whether I was alone in my preference. I've had both albums for a while and listened to them again this morning. One is a joyous, uplifting wonder, the other is routinely cited as Album of the Year.
If you are familiar with both albums (Spotify has both), then hit the UP button here if you prefer ANIMAL COLLECTIVE's Merriweather Post Pavilion

If you prefer Monsters of Folk. Thanks ever so
I should also have asked
What are others' thoughts on these - I keep trying the Animal Collective thing, but find it a strangely unlovable, clattery thing that can't finish soon enough. Am I missing something?
Phew! It's nearly finished
After seeing two new newspaper lists hailing the Animal Collective as the album of the year I thought I'd zoom over to Spotify to listen to it again. I'm on the last track at the moment and for the last 3 I've been trying to decide whether to stop it or give it a fair chance. It's odd because all the elements seem to suggest that I should like it, perhaps they're just in the wrong order for me. I doubt I'll give it another chance.
Thimbs up
for Mionsters of Folk which is excellent. Animal Collective is a strange one - bought it on the back of the hype. Played it 3 times in its entirety and a couple of times random tracks. I find it hard to understand why it is attracting all of the glowing reviews. My instinct tells me to bin it but another part of me wants to persevere until I like it. Is it a waste of my time to try again.
Well that's what I thought
I tried it this morning again after having laid off it for a while - probably after having seeing it in so many tedious end of year/decade roundups (ahem). Doing nothing for me. And like you I bought it having fallen for the hype. Nice cover though.
I really like the AC record,
I really like the AC record, but I was a fan anyway. I've seen them live a few times but always been dissapointed by the records which sounded like a different band. This was the first one to capture the live sound. Im not a Folk fan at all, prefer electronic music so this is more my cup of tea. I can see why people would dislike it especially as its held aloft as Album of the Year. I imagine MOF will get more votes from the Massive.
Two very different records really. AC have more in common with De La Soul than Dylan.
Animal Collective
The album takes several listens to get into, but I very much enjoy it. Wonderful squishy electronic folkie psychedelic stuff. Oh, and My Girls is my track of the year. Lovely.
They have a new EP due for release on 14th Dec.
Available from Itunes right
Available from Itunes right now (other download services are available) And very good it is too,
Perfect companion piece to MPP and features a couple of great tracks which AC have been playing live for a couple of years but didn't make the album. Also contains the first ever authorised Grateful Dead sample apparently.
The vocals are more to the fore too, and you can hear the striking similarity with the young Brian Wilson. Lovely stuff.
Thanks Dr Volume
Will download this evening. Sounds good.
Here, here...
Damned hard work, but worth the effort. One of the musical thrills of the year for me was hearing a song as baffling and unhinged as "Brothersport" being played on daytime Radio 2.
If you like Animal Collective...
Give Here We Go Magic a spin. Similar ilk to AC, Panada Bear, Atlas Sounds et al...
An uninformed vote
Bought Monsters of Folk and like it a lot. Only listened to samples of Animal Collective and not convinced, oh to live in a country with access to spotify for a true comparison.
I have both
... and don't much like either to be brutally frank. I really have tried with Animal Collective - all those critics can't be wrong, right? - but to me it's just a racket. But then I have always loathed the 'Wall of Sound' thing pioneered by Phil Spector - it's ruined many a fine album IMHO.
For 'Wonderful squishy electronic folkie psychedelic stuff' the Super Furry Animals album 'Dark Days/Light Years' knocks AC into a cocked hat.
As for MOF, it's all a bit underwhelming - in the way of most 'super groups'.
