Speaking of Winter...
Posted by Oscar Patterson on 6 January 2010 - 12:01pm.
I'm currently enjoying repeated plays on the Sting record "If on a Winter's Night..." as a result of watching the documentary last week on't telly...
I am *well* aware that he is an enormous appendage, but I do like the folksy aspect of it, seeems appropriate today, and includes bits of 'God Rest ye marry Gentlemen', my favourite carol, albeit a fortnight late...
My question therefore is, am I wrong to do so, his solo has essentially left me utterly cold up to this point...

Interesting
I too find him pretty up himself and irritating, but I too enjoyed the doc and in these talent free pop star times I do have to grudgingly admire his enthusiasm for making music. I haven't bought it mind you.
fascinating mix
of traditional carols, northern folks songs, and the bit I'm listening to currently sounds a bit like Peter Greenaway/Michael Nyman's soundtrack to "A Zed and Two Noughts"..I wonder what he's up to now?
Courtesy of the nice people at Grateful Dead Records
I'm listening to the new 10CD 'Complete Fillmore West 1969 show' set and imagining myself in a warm California spring.
The other day...
...on the way in to work, I strode through Lucy Road car park singing along to Sting's spirited rendition of Blood Red Roses - As good a case as any for him spending less time working to save the rainforests and more on performing rousing ditties about hunting whales in Greenland.
I don't understand
I don't understand the question Oscar. If you like it what does it matter what anyone else thinks?
it doesn't *really*...
I was just making the faintly humorous point on the fact that, as the poster below just said, it's the fact that its by *Sting* that is a bit off putting...!
Mind you, I've now been moved to retrieve the Police compilation CDs from the farthest reaches of the collection, and do you know, I am genuinely loving the slightly jazzier/funkier side of things. I agree with the fact that he should shelf the tantric side of things and crack on with the tuneage...keep that Andy Summers away from the song writing room, though...
I was put off by the title
I was put off by the pretentious title. Taken from the pretentous novel by Italo Calvino, if I'm not mistaken.
I was also put off by the fact that ... IT'S STING!
My mum
bought it for me for my birthday but I have yet to listen to it. She did really well though (much better than in 1979 when I wanted the new Squeeze album and she bought me Abba Gold) as it's a record I would be interested in listening to but not necessarily buying.
