Songs You Never Tire Of
Posted by SoundMind on 5 August 2011 - 2:00am.
Come one and all and name and/or embed the songs you can hear over and over again, whether in their original incarnations, or live, covers, and the like. I'll start with Big Star's Thirteen, rendered even more poignantly in one of Alex Chilton's final performances.

Pretty much the entire
repertory from the Temptations is indestructible.
I've even managed to highly enjoy hearing those songs sung by a motley crew of washed up artists in a Christmas cabaret thingy in a big hall full of drunk people who couldn't care less.
And I wasn't even drunk myself.
A few:
Mr Rock and Roll - Amy Macdonald
Pure - Lightning Seeds
The Whole of the Moon - Waterboys
The Tracks of my Tears - Smokey Robinson
Life On Mars - David Bowie
Spirit in the Sky - Norman Greenbaum
Little Girl Blue - Janis Joplin
Tainted Love - Soft Cell
Don't Marry Her - Beautiful South
Kingston Town - Lord Creator
From Your Favourite Sky - I am Kloot
Kiss Me - Stephen Tin Tin Duffy (I know, sorry. I'll get my coat...)
Ain't no fan, or nuffink, but...
I'm afraid the clip wigs out at about halfway through and goes out of sync - but, here's the one I never seem to tire of.
For some reason the first one that springs to mind...
is Stayin' Alive by The Bee Gees.
It's this one again........
Ernie - Benny Hill
Takes me back and makes me laugh everytime.
I don't play it everyday though you'll be pleased to hear!
More Than A Feeling, Boston
Like a shot of optimism soaked adrenaline. Can't think of a time when it hasn't made me grin.
The sublime Daft Punk
"Around The World"
Over And Over
Neil Young and Crazy Horse.
And the equally sublime
Staples Singers
"If You're Ready (Come Go With Me)"
Mmmmmmmmmmmm....
I was playing that last night. It's a bit good.
Kraftwerk-Tour De France
This is incredible
I can't tire of it:
(Pig With The Face Of A Boy - The Complete History Of The Soviet Union, Arranged To The Melody Of Tetris )
there's heaps of them, but this springs to mind...
It's The Stranglers - Always the Sun
where to start...
...
Apartment Story - The National

The Rat - The Walkmen
The Tracks Of My Tears - Smokey Robinson
Falling Down - Scarlett Johansson
Under My Thumb - The Rolling Stones
Early Days of Channel Fuhrer - The Fall
He as A Friend Of Mine - Bob Dylan
The National
Scarlett
The Walkmen
Teenage Fanclub
I could happily listen to this for the rest of my days. Definately on my Desert Island Discs...
(Teenage Fanclub - Everything Flows)
Heavens to Betsy
yes, yes, oh yes.
The foundation of my musical education.
Gets me every time,
and I mean REALLY gets me, especially in the scene from Almost Famous.
Elton John - Tiny Dancer
Vangelis - To The Unknown Man
Fan Mael....
Never, ever tire of this...
or
Guaranteed to raise a smile.
The Supremes, Stoned Love
always gives me goosebumps - especially the long version
Go Long
The Tom Moulton remix of 'Stoned Love':
The Mighty Wah The Story Of The Blues
but can I post this instead? All stand for the national anthem..
(Fr Ted: The Spinmaster plays Ghost Town)
there she goes
By the La's. A perfect pop single.
I have a few...
Meet Me On The Corner - Lindisfarne
All Right Now - Free
Papa Was A Rollin' Stone - The Temptations
Superstition - Stevie Wonder
I'm Only Sleeping - The Beatles
Jeepster - T. Rex
Queen Bitch - David Bowie

Sun always shines on tv - Aha
Life on Mars - David Bowie

Live Forever - Oasis
Shipbuilding - Robert Wyatt
that, daddyclark
Is a fine little selection!
Cheers
Although on the day I would probably bottle out and add Vaughn William's "Lark Ascending" to look intelligent.
And another classic...
'Throw Your Arms Around Me'
DAAS
The version I first heard, and love still, is by the Doug Anthony Allstars. If you have not heard of them - this is not even slightly representative of their act in general (very crude and very funny comedy trio). More representative would be their immortal "I fuck Dogs".
Saw them live
"Any Christians in the audience?......Stone the baaaaastards"
One of the best nights out.
Never tire of this
It makes my day better just by existing and hearing it brings me enormous joy...
These shuffle
back into my life about every month or so, and every time they do they sounds as fresh and delightful as ever. I think it's because they're so unlike the rest of the music I carry around with me.
Loads
But this one is definitely the winner for me:
Only Ones - Another Girl, Another Planet
Cover Version by The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain
Oh yes
Thin Lizzy - Fools Gold
I like the guitarring after about 2:10 in particular
and while we are at it
Little Girl In Bloom. I think this is one or both of Gary Moore/Brian Robertson
One which I never tire of hearing...
The guitar solo is one of those "implode with joy" moments...
Rick Astley
"Never Gonna Give You Up"
EVERY time
From the first second
This never sounds
anything less than uplifting and has done so for 44 years.
Incredible String Band - First Girl I Loved (1967)
