Songs We Can Never Tire Of.

Was listening to the radio the other day after driving back from a Happy Mondays gig in Leeds and Ben E. King's "Stand By Me" soothed my mind after the hot sweaty sound of the Mondays. I realised no matter how many times I hear this record, it never annoys or disturbs, it's just a perfect song and will be with me for life. The same goes for Percy Sledge's "When A Man Loves A Woman" and The Kink's "Waterloo Sunset". Anything to add?

Love them forever

I reckon they must be old songs to have attained this status - new songs may seem to be as good but you can then tire of them. Four perpetual winners for me would be 'If I Fell' by the Beatles, 'Thunder Road' by Bruce, 'Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow' by Carole King and 'Hot Burrito #1' by the Flying Burrito Brothers.

I don't have a particular personal fave

But I do always think that there are some songs that are on regular rotation on all radio stations all the time that never seem to lose their lustre and would be massive hits if newly released now. And they are not particular faves of mine or hold specific personal memories. Here:

Come Up & See Me - Steve Harley
Virginia Plain - Roxy Music
Maggie May - Rod Stewart
Up the Junction - Squeeze

So many to choose from..

You have my full agreement with 'Up the Junction'!

Also:
The Band - The Weight (which I listen to all the time and was elated to hear on the soundtrack of recent horror flick '1408')

Bob Dylan - Just Like a Woman

Fleetwood Mac - Landslide/Go Your Own Way

Average White Band - Pick Up The Pieces (Function band memories flooding back, but I still get up and dance...of sorts)

Kinks - Sunny Afternoon
