Songs to play in an empty stadium
Posted by Gauntlet on 25 February 2010 - 10:15pm.
I'm nicking this idea from elsewhere on the internet, where someone is compiling a list of songs to be played on the sound system of an enormous and empty stadium while you lie in the centre of the pitch. Song requirements:

Her list for far includes
As well as:
Sigur Ros - Hoppipolla
Bloc Party - This Is Modern Love
The Temper Trap - Sweet Disposition
Florence and The Machine - Cosmic Love
Frou Frou - Let's Go
Gotta be some Big, Epic Rawk
I'd suggest Stargazer by Rainbow.
An empty stadium?
'Everyone's Gone To The Moon.'
But seriously though, folks...
How about "Visions Of You" by Jah Wobble's Invaders Of The Heart? Ooh! Even better - 'Public Image' by PIL.
I'm just saying, that's all ...
EDIT: Bugger!
You beat me to it...
great minds etc.
count me in
.
My 1st thought
as well.
Unquestionably, the masters of 'Empty Stadium Rock'
(and the Yamaha GX-1 he's playing is a HUGELY rare instrument. The most insane analogue performance synth ever designed - and it was branded as part of Yamaha's 'Electone' home organ line!)
Muse
Knights of Cydonia
"Fanfare for the Common Man" - Emerson, Lake & Palmer.
Olympic stadium, Montreal; empty.
Punk really destroyed prog ticket sales...
D'oh.
Steven C - you beat me to it.
In the antiquated filing system of my brain, I just reached for the little index card that came up first...
And the bloody thing doesn't play!
Although I suspect 99% of the Massive know how it goes.
thanks to both of you
for reminding me of ELP. Now listening for the first time in years. Happy days!
La Grange..
by ZZ Top. Here, in their Pearly King/3 Amigos phase with synchronised rocking and Frank at the back who looks like a hitman on his hols. It says loud on the tin.
Black Uhuru...
...Shine Eye Gal. The most bowel-churning bass ever. Oh, or Baby Satellite by Biosphere, for similar low-frequency reasons.
The Verve
Gravity Grave
"New Years Day"
by U2.
Blue Lines
Massive Attack
or
Radio Babylon by Meat Beat Manifesto
Wish I was there
not much grass in Pompeii though.
Absolutely. Still sends
Absolutely. Still sends shivers down my spine.
"Pretty Vacant"
by The Sex Pistols? Gets coat...
How's about....
Starless by King Crimson
It has all the qualities mentioned before with one of the best endings in progressive rock
there's an App for that

Eek! even I was impressed
Yep, got it.
It's really good, isn't it?
Well, given the empty stadium, Fleetwood Mac played this
Pixies played this
I reckon this satisfies the criteria
I certainly wouldn't mind hearing it in such a setting
Oh Lordy!
Yeah, that one kills!
a big thankee :)
a friend I have now lost touch with put this on a tape for me back in the 90s, I never knew what it was called - we even saw them at a tiny place in Glasgow of the Only Heaven tour, brutal is the word, brutal!
