So who's going to be on the Dixie Queen on Sunday?

Raymo's picture

Just bought tickets for me & my daughter, so we'll be there.

Does anyone know whether there will be any musicians playing other than C.W.Stoneking?

I hope the weather isn't too bad...

Iron Maiden are rumoured as headliners

Acoustic set obviously.

The Duckworth Lewis Method

had a prior engagement. And Rilo Kiley have split up.

1
Prestonia | 19 July 2011 - 8:08pm

Sadly not

8 hours of driving on the Monday so will be fitting roof boxes etc.

0
Twangothan | 19 July 2011 - 10:56pm

Mmmm

Not a lot by the sounds of it....

I know

I'm beginning to wish I'd never asked! C'mon people, I know Stoneking isn't to everyone's taste, but how many chances will you get to travel down the Thames in a paddle steamer? And with the Word staff team. For £35, it seems to me a bargain.

0
Raymo | 20 July 2011 - 1:49pm

I just think

their appeal is becoming more selective.

2
skirky | 20 July 2011 - 2:14pm

Its not

a big paddle steamer town, that's all

3
DogFacedBoy | 20 July 2011 - 2:36pm

Despite the short notice

the ouch price and an inability to understand the voodoo-like hold that Stoneking has on the Word team, I will be there. Unless my outside chance of a freebie to Lord's comes good.

Captain Underpants | 20 July 2011 - 11:19am

And Neil

bloody Hannon. Presumably the Pet Shop Boys weren't up for it or you can bet they'd have been there too. See also Wootars.

1
Twangothan | 20 July 2011 - 12:24pm

I believe

CW Stoneking is in possession of the oft-rumoured David Hepworth sex tape.

2
Brookster | 20 July 2011 - 1:53pm

Never niss a Word do

so see you there.

0
pedr0 | 20 July 2011 - 12:44pm

Oh I don't know. "National Express" is a work of

rare genius in my view.

0
BernkastelCues | 20 July 2011 - 12:45pm

Which raises the question of why...

...the trip doesn't involve Neil and a coach...

1
Colin H | 20 July 2011 - 1:58pm

See you there!

Hx

0
Hannah | 20 July 2011 - 2:00pm

That's the spirit!

Look forward to meeting you, Hannah.

0
Raymo | 20 July 2011 - 2:04pm

And you!

Should be splendid.

0
Hannah | 20 July 2011 - 6:23pm

I've bought tickets

for myself and my two teenagers, so I look forward to meeting a few of you. Can I make a request for some decent ale on board?

0
Nick Duvet | 20 July 2011 - 2:06pm

I will be there

because of the opportunity to see CW Stoneking somewhere that is not yer run-of-the-mill venue. Looking forward to it immensely, his music takes me to another place, another time.

0
jimmyshoes01 | 20 July 2011 - 2:10pm

Nope, too expensive

and don't like CW Stoneking at all - maybe it would have been better value (and variety) if there was at least one more act peforming.

Anyway, it's a good idea and something a bit different and I hope you all have a great time!

One suggestion though - is there any chance The Word might organise a Word of Mouth gig or Event outside London some day? I mean I can get to London easily so it's OK for me - but what about for those further afield - Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester, Dublin etc?

1
Retro Man | 20 July 2011 - 2:10pm

You are

a Man of the people Retro.

1
jimmyshoes01 | 20 July 2011 - 2:30pm

Well, us provincial bumpkins have to

stick together Jimmy!

0
Retro Man | 20 July 2011 - 4:11pm

Outside London

We'd love to do a tour, but the reason we've stuck to London so far is basic economics - if we go further afield costs increase and likely audience sizes go down. But one day...

0
Fraser Lewry | 20 July 2011 - 2:37pm

Yes, but...

if it's a big city and a reasonably big act done in the style of the Word of Mouth gigs i.e with Wilko and Divine Comedy, I'm sure you'd get a decent crowd.

Anyway, with all the excellent advice I received from Alex and the Massive about my "how do I promote a gig?" enquiry...I'd be happy to lend you a hand with promotions - for a small fee of course!

0
Retro Man | 20 July 2011 - 4:10pm

Everybody knows

that the further away from London you go, the more expensive things are. That's why so many people live there. (subs - please check)

About to leave the office for a Brum mini-mingle

me, Steve Turner and Last Rose of Summer off to see Neil Finn's Pajama Club.

A small select clique and we don't care.......bring on the arpeggio's Finnster!

0
el toro calvo grande | 20 July 2011 - 6:46pm

I'm on board with this

Don't leave without me will you, will be dashing straight there after an errand.

Looking forward to it. Never seen CW before but this will be the first of two in the space of a week as he's doing the late night slot at Womad.

Bringing daughter along with me who is now viewing this with some suspicion after she fell asleep when I took her to see the Unthanks on Saturday.

0
Martin Simmonds | 20 July 2011 - 3:31pm

Which leads to a very rare opportunity...

...in the English language for something which might normally be a tautology if, indeed, allowable at all outside of Lewis Carroll: namely, that your daughter found herself in an unthankless position.

An afternoon of Mermaid spotting

I'm all for taking back Sunday afternoon, traditionally a no man's land where Monday morning looms large on the horizon and it becomes increasingly hard to ignore the working week stretching out before you like some interminable desert. Normally I resign myself to it and do the ironing, but not this weekend.

C W Stoneking's music is known to attract mermaids and other mythical creatures of the deep. That's live music, pod-casting and mermaid spotting - on the Sabbath.

Sadly I'm broke.

£35 for a ride on a boat is beyond me this week. You'll just have to muddle on without me folks...

0
ganglesprocket | 21 July 2011 - 8:18am

Press Gangle

Can we bash you over the head and smuggle you aboard? A Ganglesprocket (probably pronounced "Gun Whale" or "Ginny") sounds like a vital piece of marine equipment.

Bob: You can float along beside the boat... I'll get my oilskin
