So are Arsenal going to beat Barcelona tonight?

Chris G's picture

2 :1 to Messi and crew I reckon.

It's going to be tough!

It'll either be very close, or Arsenal will crumble completely...you never quite know if they'll be mentally tough enough.

Possible...

but not probable.

Wenger has stated...

...quite correctly, that Barca's performance at Emerites was exceptional, but "they don't play as good as that in every match, and they didn't beat us". Maybe the sound of straws being clutched, but, yeah, they have a chance.Need to score first methinks.

As long as The Simpsons starts when it is supposed to

I don´t really mind either. But Arsenal would be alright.

No

First leg should have been 0-10. I have never seen a more one-sided first half an hour in any form of football.

Barca are missing some players, but Arsenal arguably have more injury problems. 4-1 to Barca (6-3 on aggregate)

If Sol Campbell plays Barca could run riot.

Messi 3, Arsenal 1

Half time. Oh dear...

0
Mr Sparks | 6 April 2010 - 8:32pm

3:1 already to Barca

They're a bit special...

0
Iainso | 6 April 2010 - 8:33pm

Half-Time.

Masterclass from Messi in first half.

Grant | 6 April 2010 - 8:34pm

The third goal was sublime

Poor Michel Sylvestre, players usually only leave Utd for two reasons. One, they fall out with the manager or two, they're not good enough my guess is that Fergie and Michel got on OK.

Messi reminds me so much of Peter Beardsley

it's unreal. And coming from a Newcastle fan there's no higher compliment.

And to think that when Bendtner scored

I was leaping around the room like a man possessed. Should have known better...

Whinge, Wenger, whinge ...

... if there was a Champions League for whingers you'd win every year. And the Emirates is still trophy less. Must be the curse.

0
Johnny Topaz | 6 April 2010 - 9:12pm

He whinges, sure

but at least he's not a xenophobic whinger like Ferguson, who had the following to say after tonight's game:

but they got [Rafael] sent off. They all rushed towards the referee. Typical Germans. You can't dispute that.

Interesting isn't it that schadenfreude is a German concept...?

1
Red Umpire | 7 April 2010 - 9:54pm

Of course,

xenophobia is a condition only to be found in the UK. For example, the idea that the coach of Spain could ever be heard to call a prominent French player a 'black shit' is clearly a malicious rumour.

For the record, I also raised an eyebrow at SAF's comments, but xenophobia has nothing to do with it - it's exactly in line with comments he's made in countless domestic games as manager of East Stirling, St.Mirren, Aberdeen and Man Yoo.

DougieJ | 7 April 2010 - 10:07pm

Ignorant racism?

Riberry - who led the hectoring of the ref is French, not German.

0
badartdog | 7 April 2010 - 10:13pm

How many of these are Germans Sir Alex?

Xenophobic *AND* hypocritical...

1
Red Umpire | 7 April 2010 - 10:38pm

Think

it's unlikely now

1
Sheev | 6 April 2010 - 9:33pm

4-1

I think I win the sweepstake !

2
dai | 6 April 2010 - 9:38pm

Football Football Football

It's clutching at straws to suggest Arsenal would've coped if they'd had fewer injuries (Fabregas, Arshavin, Gallas, Song, Van Persie et al were all missing) but even with a full strength team, I think they would've struggled against Barcelona; they just don't seem to have the mental toughness to cope with a team that's better than them. I know there are those on here who despise the Hristo Stoichkov Hitmakers but they can do no wrong for in my eyes; even if they all ate children as part of their pre-match routine I'd still think they were brilliant simply because of the style of football they play.

Lionel Messi for Prime Minister.

0
Tom | 6 April 2010 - 10:57pm

No

It all got rather Messi.

I know several Gooners, one of whom once memorably said 'if you're gonna wash your face you may aswell wash your arse n'all (Arsenal)'

Actually that works better spoken rather than written. As I've proved indisputably just above.

1
Beezer | 6 April 2010 - 11:11pm

It's OK....

...I know you can be funny when you want to be, Andy!

0
Iainso | 6 April 2010 - 11:36pm

I think we can add Messi

to the list of sporting witches/warlocks who should be burnt at the stake for their black satanic skills.
On the list already Shane Warne and Maradonna.

Chris G | 6 April 2010 - 11:31pm

new

As a footie fan I think we are lucky to be around to watch this man play football. When he scored that third goal,we actually laughed at the skill of it. Laughing at goals! Never done that before.
