Skype Help!

humphreym's picture

This might seem like a strange help request, but I really need help with Skype! I'm using a macbook and have the latest version of Skype, but the call quality is still terrible! I've tried adjusting sound settings on Skype and macbook, and tried calling landlines as well as other Skype users, but the quality is either crap or else the other person can't hear me! I've looked for answers on forums, but everything I've tried has failed. Help!!

Obvious question

Have you 'checked for updates'?

I had similar problems when I started using Skype only to discover that they were updating the software quite frequently. All got resolved in the end by the updating process.

Running the..

latest version, and still no joy! It used to work perfectly on my Dell laptop.

Are you running any online software

such as Spotify or iTunes or downloading stuff.

I've known sound quality of Skype to be affected if the sound card is being used by other software or if my Internet traffic is heavy.

I take it you've run the 'ring Skype' test.

Sorry if this is just annoying advice already tried and tested.

I'll try that...

I think I had a few things running. Thanks for the help! If all else fails I might delete software and download again!

Use iChat

It's much better. The downside is your friends will need to have a .Mac or .Me account (or an AIM account), but at least you'll be able to use all those wacky visual effects.
